In 2010, high school junior Jamie Culpepper is diagnosed with adult-onset minutism, a condition that will cause him to slowly shrink over the next couple of years. He struggles to cope with his gradual loss of power and independence, while dealing with family, friends, and a very possessive (and unbalanced) ex-girlfriend.
In 2019, Jamie Culpepper has become something of a minor celebrity and spokesperson for the rights of minutistic individuals, fighting to maintain their independence in a world that regards them as second-class citizens. But despite his success, Jamie still has one major regret in his life. And now, trapped in a spiral of misery and self-loathing, he realizes he would do just about anything to set things right.
This story jumps back and forth between the past and present, using a narrative structure that was inspired by (i.e. lifted outright from) Richard Matheson's novel THE SHRINKING MAN.
