Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Hmmm.. Excelent chapter and you got me thinking. Actualy a few things that Peter has said, thought and done have me thinking. I'm starting to wonder if Peter has a Manic-Depressive Illness (aka Bipolar Disorder). In an early chapter Peter refers to hitting his first wall. He talks as though he is on a medication but due to his current situation is now without it (but never flat out says medication I'll admit). In another chapter Peter mentions that he is keeping an even bigger secret from Emily and is afraid of how she would react to learning it. On multiple occasions Peter has shown him self to act impulsively and maybe even recklessly at times. He seems like a very active and creative person. He generaly is calm and collected but can get aggitated and irritable.
Since fighting the spider however he seems like a slightly different Peter. Which is understandable given the enormous stress he was under and his lack of sleep as a result. He seems more quiet, reserved and maybe a little anti-social. He also doesn't seem to enjoy things he would normaly enjoy (painting Emily's toe nails). Again understandable and really not that different. Not until he take offence to the prank with the spider and Emily saying "small thing" anyway. From there you see a major mood change in him and see him bottle up his emotions until it all comes out in a big explosion. Durring his explosion his thoughts express anger, guilt sadness, sellf loathing, loneiness, hopelessness and ultimately morbid sucicidal thoughts that lead to a suicide atempt.
I say attempt because you say this isn't the end and I trust you. So yea this is what this chapter has got me thinking about. To be honest when reading his thoughts in this chapter I thought that Peter was having auditory hallucinations. Assuming Peter does have a Manic-Depressive Illness and did have a major depressive episode, I would assume it was brought on by the stress with the spider and his lack of sleep.
All that being said I could totaly be way off base with all of this and am simply way over analyzing all of this. Regardless as to wether or not I am right or not, it once again goes to show how gifted and tallented you are as a writer. You truely have a gift at writing charaters who don't feel like characters in a story, but feel like real people.
As always, looking forward to your next chapter :)
