I had Stephanie pegged as a psychopath due to her lack of empathy.  Seems like her flat affect is the result of a traumatic incident in her childhood.  Her lack of caring is in fact a defense mechanism.

This makes the eye for an eye discipline a little more troubling.  Someone like Stephanie should also be getting some counseling.  I don't know if Claire is up for that or not.  Interesting that Stephanie doesn't see herself as a hypocrite.  Are Omegas hypocritical for punishing Alphas in the same way that they don't want Alphas treating Betas? (Especially if the eating Alphas who ate Betas part is true. Kind of like spanking a child for hitting their sibling.) -pardon this analysis, it's just my educational background in developmental psychology spilling out.

On the subject of Omegas, compression shrinking is a new ability.  I assume the mass remains the same to make her proportionally more durable for the ride?

Author's Response:

I'll just say that Stephanie (and Naomi) are very, very lucky they were transferred over to Claire's custody. You are not off the mark on the "eye for an eye" issue. I will say, since it's not really a spoiler or anything, that Omegas do not go out looking for Alphas to harm. They're a purely reactive force when it comes to them.

That is a good assumption.

Oh wow,  heavy stuff.  There but for the grace of God could things have gone the same for Claire and Corry.  It refreshing that that sibling relationship breaks the conditioning she's received.

Bad decision to let her friends in without her.  I doubt every omega can look beyond the revenge instinct the way Claire has been able to.  I'm extremely worried for Naomi if these friends get ahold of her.

First of, I knew this would happen.  Lucky Naomi got saved before it went too far.

The first description of events didn't make any sense til it was explained later.  I still had to go back and reread the beginning.  (Little extra work for your reader there.)

Jenna isn't entirely wrong, but maybe not the right reasons for her outlook.  (Like to hear more about Vincent, I assume he's the boy with one arm.)  Interesting that they transfered from her care.  That's almost as big a conflict of interest as Claire.  I'm now starting to think transferring them may not have been done with malicious intent.

That had to have sucked for Claire though, having a beta brother and being last in her class certified to even interact with him.

This might be better for Naomi.  She'll think hard on what she was told.  But she maybe needs less to share a Beta's pain as to learn to be compassionate to those smaller than her instead of using them as an outlet for her frustrations.  That's more like what an Omega like Jenna is doing.

So Naomi knows about Stephanie's history.  Awfully quick to toss Marion under the bus.  Let's see how things go with her.

I notice while Correy is still in school, his younger sister and her friends are all established professionally.  Do all Omegas track into jobs protecting the rights of Betas?

If Melody truly cares for Claire's brother like she think she does, this is nothing but false hope for Marion.  Speaking of which, does anyone know that Marion has already murdered at least two people?

I wonder if Melody is as reserved as everyone sees her?  From her description, if I was Correy I would jump at the chance to be with her.

Bit by bit, more of the world trickles out.  So then are Omegas much longer lived than Betas? Any hope for a happy life between Melody and Correy now seems doomed to end in tragedy.

So Beta society is relatively new.  I hope Correy isn't ready to give up, to turn his life over to Omegas like all those years ago.  And I hope the girls are ready to encourage him to continue to follow his dreams if that's the case.

The punishment system continues to be worrisome.  It's something of the justice system they deserve, but as with Stephanie, maybe not the one they need at this point.  In my head, Ashley's antics were probably not done in malice and maybe even with initial consent of the beta.  Basically just kids being stupid.  I picture one of the other girls stumbling upon them and overreacting given the cultural sensitivity of the situation.  It's sad to hear about her pleading with her sister, possibly to try and explain it, while the three continue for "her own good."

Author's Response:

I wouldn't say it must end in tragedy. If they enjoy what time they have together, and Melody can carry the memories of their time together with her long after he passes, is it really tragedy?

I'll go ahead and say that the little short story I mentioned at the end of the previous chapter will cover Ashley's experience, so you'll get answers on that.

This just occurred to me, the girls circumvented the system to teach Melody's sister a lesson because they didn't trust a random Omega to do it.  That detail alone is pretty telling.

And maybe tragedy is too strong a word.  But the knowledge that they can't grow old together, that one will depart before that leaving the other alone for an indeterminate amount of time has got to be a little sad going in.  (It was also an issue in Titan: Physics.)

That was a good exchange between the two of them, and I'm happy if they'll find some joy together in the time they have.

I'm generally not into giantesses that mistreat tinies, but I've found the actions of Claire at least to be somewhat sexy in the demonstration of her power.  I guess the major difference is these are not innocent bystanders.  But more than that, it's the ability of the giantess to feel bad for the tiny, to have some compassion.  It means the tinies have a chance, that while they may be at her mercy, there actually is mercy to be had.  I hope Claire and at least two of those girls continue to bond, and maybe even a chance for Correy to reconcile with them.  That little guy is a saint, and I like that there's an element of forgiveness to aid in the redemption of two of the girls.

But wow, doesn't look like there will much hope for Marion.  12 is a lot more than I was expecting, and they know about them too.  I don't know how I feel about them Turing it into a sick game of false hope for Marion, but it raises another question.  Correy asks his sister to treat the girls fairly because he didn't agree with Dr. Everett transferring them into her custody.  Melody seems to think taking them away from Jenna was a decision to give them a fair chance.  Without having met the good doctor, I'm not sure who is right.

Author's Response:

I really couldn't do this story with a girl that didn't have some level of compassion and empathy, and generally I consider Claire to be a middle ground between Melody and Jenna (though Jenna herself isn't absent of compassion). A nice mix of domination/meanness that she enjoys to an extent, but with limits placed on that enjoyment due to her own character. I'm looking forward to letting that dominance play out in a more...gentle matter eventually.

We're getting close to the interlude so I'll just let the last bit be :)

A lot world building in this chapter.  For starter, it seems some force transforms people into Omegas, and it doesn't seem to have a specific personality type as a prerequisite.

We also learned that all the sizes can inter-reproduce with each other.  (When I first read the couple I thought 2 aphas produce beta children, not that 2 alphas expecting a child are there because the child happens to be a beta.  Little confusing at first.)  Interestingly, it seems a beta and an omega can not have a beta child.  So we already know Claire and Corey are step siblings.  I wonder if Ashley and Melody are biological.

Chapter notes: Claire doesn't think much of her coworkers, heh.

Marion keeps digging herself deeper and deeper.  And she's not even there for most of it.  I hope things work out for Stephanie.  And poor Noemi, at least if they were mad at what she did it would be understandable, but it's clear it's all about how they look.

It doesn't matter what she decided, Claire still has her brother's life planned out for him.  It just so happens that things are working out naturally as she envisions.  And "Best Woman"? Either Correy lacks guy friends, or the two are that close.

Author's Response:

Good call on the personality type, though there is a prerequisite of sorts.

Sorry if that was confusing, I'll see if I can't do better on those details in the future.

Melody and Ashley are biological.

Doesn't think much of Alexis, no, but she's fine with Kyle.

And, well, Claire never said she wasn't going to stop wanting what she felt was best for him. That's just how she is, she simply made the decision to support his choices over pushing her own. As for the last bit...well, he just sort of grew up closer to Omegas than he did his fellow Betas due to where he lives. He certainly has Beta friends, but he might not be as close to them.

You know, even as a friend, Dr. Kayla Everett would be a frightening person.  Your thoughts are not even your own around her.  How close she is to the family, it might not just be Marion who has to worry.  I wonder if she has the same hatred deep down that Abby has about the situation.

There are a few questions I get from this chapter:

Does Dr. Everett not control who ascends?  It seems if anything, she would want to extend the life and protection of her closesest friend's family.  (Again the potential sadness of mix pairings comes up.)

How do detonators work? (I have an idea.)

What was the second incident Abby caused between her children?

So her husband tagged along with his ex in medical School.  Why are they ex?  (And who is Claire's father now to mention it?)

So we got a glimpse of the past.  What exactly was going on in this facility?

Author's Response:

Well, we'll get a little look at her intentions with the girls next chapter.

Some of those questions may be answered as well.

I'm curious about what you think detonators may do, and wouldn't mind hearing it. I won't confirm or deny either way outside of the story, but still.

I was thinking they do something similar to compression but for an Omega, also because of the husband mention.

Date: March 11 2014 Title: Chapter 15: Talk

So much revealed about the world in this chapter.  So omegas have only been around for 70 or so years, but started the new generation less than 30 years ago.  And Kayla isn't like family, she is family.  Also the first generation shares Kayla's world view, I guess Abby doesn't see completely eye to eye is she had to be choosen.  That's actually good for Kayla, to have a non-yes man who's so close to her.  It will give her prospective.

And fucking Jenna, I knew it.  That is not the person you hand your sister to even for her own good.  When lasting harmony is finally established, and she will probably live to see it, they're not going to know what to do with her.

If Caire is successfully fighting the fire, I don't know is giving her a treat is the best thing.  It's too tempting to corrupt her.  I actually hope she doesn't kill Marion.  Do so, because it's her "god" given right and Marion is "nothing" to her, I feel would be a major character failure for her.

Questions:

Still don't know how Kayla assended.  And if she can also choose it, why not the rest of her family?

Still don't know the second incident with Abby's kids, and now there's another with Melody's mom?  Or are they related?

Also who is Claire's father, and why is he no longer in the picture?

What was Ashley's circumstances?

Still not sure what detonators are.

Is Kayla's son an Alpha or Beta?

Author's Response:

I wouldn't be quite so quick to assume an inherent difference in philosophy. One thing I want to be clear is that Abigail was not very old at all when she ascended, and that the triggers Kayla sent out required the presence of a very intense desire for a specific thing. Emphasis on "intense." I believe it would be safer to assume that Abigail was in no such state of mind at the time this happened, especially as it likely happened in the aftermath of watching her older brother die.

I kinda hate having to step up to bat for her, but give Jenna a little leeway in that matter for now. She has her kinks, but she IS capable of acting compassionately when it comes to Alphas.

We'll ultimately have to see. Marion's fate isn't sealed by any means.

On the Questions:

-Will not be covered here

-Two different incidents.

-Will not be covered here

-Will hopefully be covered a little in the next week or so with a short story while I recharge on this one.

-Will come to light eventually.

-Ditto.

So we get to see a glimpse of some more of the horrors Betas have been put through.  I wonder when the account given occurred.  It says 15 years, but that part itself is in a book so it could have been a lot longer.  I wonder how Omegas deal with Betas worshiping them like gods.  I know the good doctor doesn't like it, it has to make the rest of them uncomfortable at least.

Naomi is the one so far who is going to be the most affected by the accounts in the book.  And she can't even cry over them without coming off as a huge hypocrite.

I also like to remind Jenna that she didn't become the favorite, or a darling, or even super likable following Tough Love.  She basically broken even, and also made it clear that she's self aware.  So yeah, whatever she does with Naomi after the cliffhanger will count double towards her character depending on the direction she goes.

Reviewer: sketch Signed starstarstarstarstar

So Jenna is acting like a brat.  By her standers that's a huge plus for her character.

I'm surprised Naomi will be allowed near beta children given the crime she's labeled with.  Not that I think she will do anything bad, but I doubt the parents would knowingly want a felon watching their kids.  I imagine there will be an Omega with her the whole time.  (If that happens to be Jenna, I wouldn't put it past her letting slip Naomi's crime just because she doesn't think she's worthy having the kids like her too much.)

I'm interested to see what happens when the parents meet the girls.

Author's Response:

Oh, sketch, you're like a Jenna to my Jenna :D

Possibly, but it's kind of well-known that the Omegas use stuff like this for community service because there are a lot of betas and not quite enough Aegis hands. While I'll say that there won't be an Omega with her the whole time just because of the trouble of fitting one inside a museum, she'll definitely be under the overall supervision of one while an Aegis operative keeps a close eye on her. And I dunno, I don't think Jenna would do that.  I think she'd want the kids to have fun and feel safe over anything else.

As for the parents...eheheheheh. I'll just say that a particular something made the rounds.

Reviewer: sketch Signed

Eh, I almost didn't include that last comment on Jenna.  As much as she wants to see Naomi suffer, it would be out of character for her to frightened small children just to spite her.  I hope it goes well for Naomi.

And what, what got passed around?  Is it possible to detective the answer out of the story so far?

Author's Response:

It is, yes.

Reviewer: sketch Signed

(*grumbles, why do I always have to defend not liking Jena?)

As I've said before, first impressions count. With Ashley/Naomi, you introduce them in a very sympathetic/identifiable way. We see them counterpoint the malicious attitudes of others, see them exhibit remorse, express their insecurities, and experience fear. We never start with the crime they committed, nor ever see it first hand. It's easy to forget because that action is far removed and seemingly out of character for those girls.

Then you have Jenna who comes in as an antagonist, flawed in a sociopathic way. Someone who delights in the pain of others, only in this case her target is not a killer/rapist but a helpless sympathetic girl. You can't be surprised that some people haven't warmed up to her.

Yes it's good she's there to ground Naomi, to play devil's advocate if you will. But that's not going to make her likable. Only see her non-sadistic pastimes and interactions will do that, and we haven't seen very much of her tender side so far. The closest we came was with Ashley and that was only after causing her to vomit, so that's pretty much a wash.

She has gone from a -5 to a 0, almost a 1, (where 0 is neutral likability). So she wins the most improvement award. Let's see how the shopping trip goes.

A very moving chapter.  I could feel Stephanie's pain the whole build up.

And I'm interested to know how Naomi's doing even though we might not find out for a long while.  The two of them are what has made this story interesting.  Over the long time between updates I've completely forgotten about the other girl.

Author's Response:

Thank you.

And I'm glad to see you back, sketch! As Kazuma and some others can likely attest to, I've been going all "man, where's sketch been? :(" for several updates in a row. Glad to see you're still reading, and it's great to seea review from you again.

Sadly it probably will be a while before we see Naomi again thanks to my schedule. The current plan is to handle this upcoming party, then tie things off with Naomi's activities. It's just a matter of having the time to carry them out.

This is a cute story.  A couple notes: at 50 ft a giantess's foot would be as big or bigger than a person but still only half the length of a standard car.  I like the ranks you have for the urban licenses.  I came up with a similar idea for a project I'm working on.

On the latest chapter, I also kind of want to know what Sylvie did to his dad.  And like Nostory, I also feel like he's being unfaithful to Madison here.  Like he lacks self control.

Author's Response:

Thank you for reading! I've never had any actual measurements for a giantess's foot, so I haven't really through about that! xD Thanks for clearing that up!

I wrote Eliot to be more accepting of extranormal circumstances, so he was really just going with the flow xD Whether he was cheating or not depends on how thick headed he is...

I have to say, I'm glad to see this story expanded.  (Admittedly I only skimmed the last installment until we got to Arell's return.)

I think the Colonel represents the unflinching view that Arell is a monster, while Bradley represents redemption and the chance for reconciliation.  And then there's Kevin...  I will say this, the man knows what he likes.
