Sweet chapter. I think Stephanie will break before long. I can't imagine what Marion did to her doll.

Also is it me or did you use those emphasizing italics alot this chapter?

Also...200!

I swear I expected gruesome twist to the end of that flashback where kid Stephanie finds the mangled corpse of her brother again. The ending, however, was still just as depressing. Damn.

And now I hate Marion all over again.

I see the only real change to Stephanie now is that Claire at some point gave her a beta sized doll. I already said it on the chat but I’d rather see more scenes with Stephanie as she arguably the one with the saddest backstory and the realest of issues.

Author's Response:

Hahah, I was wondering if some people would think that was where this was heading. I'm glad I could deliver a gut punch from an entirely different direction :)

It's actually a bit more than a doll, but we'll see that next time we check in on her. And yeah, I'll admit to some...frustrations on my end, because I'd love to just focus on Stephanie for a long time but I have other characters to get to as well.

@Kusanagi: WUT?! I liked Jenna since day ONE! :p

"Sophie's story, in particular," she continued softly, "is the one I remember the most. A lot of the stories there...they upset me, obviously, through all that abuse. That despair. But Sophie's sets a bar for cruelty that none of the others ever really match." Jenna's eyes narrowed once again, her nose crinkled. "And it didn't just upset me, Naomi, it made me angry. Angry at the sheer callousness of those boys, angry at the pain they caused, at the joy they took in taking the life of an old man. Of a girl who was barely a teenager. Of a father. Angry at the sheer fucking pointlessness of it all."

I think this one passage right here pretty much sums Jenna’s feelings on the treatment of beta’s and why she is so passionate about it and why she has a more conservative mindset compared to Claire and Melody. I don’t know if you intended it to be seen that way but that is what I get from it.

Also I noticed that Jenna said “moms”. Is her mother a lesbian? Was Jenna the product of artificial insemination?

Author's Response:

You pretty much got what I was hoping to put across there, so kudos.

As for the rest: Yes, and who knows :3

From how Marion talked about it, I can easily see religions in the omega verse proclaiming that betas are cursed or whatever. US had no problem using religion to justify slavery.

Author's Response:

This is also an idea that goes in the right direction, and something I'll probably touch on when I get to The Guardian given where that particular part of the origin tale takes place.

So, yeah, again: Shit was hugely fucked up.

Good to see Consequences back even though this chapter was pretty disappointing. I don't like short chapters, especially when your style of writing benifits from longer ones due to all the detail you put into them. This one didn't leave a good impression since it was mostly flashback that didn't really add anything new. Anyone that hasn't figured out betas were treated like nothing in the past hasn't been paying attention.

That said I know this is part of Naomi's rehabilitation and it's good to get a peak into that.

I don't know why Claire is letting Jenna see Naomi, though. Figured she'd be off limits after Jenna's last talk.

So many answers and yet so many questions still.

If anything this story effortlessly keeps someone like me interested.

Kayla is difficult to pin down… she’s a very complex character. She’s kind but very controlling. I do like despite all her power she has very clear flaws, like her relationship with her son, whom she must have had with another Omega possibly. When Abigail is reminiscing about the past it appears Kayla had a relationship with Graham that went beyond just friends, though.

I didn’t say it last chapter but I do pity Abigail, she has a lot of emotional baggage and has to deal with splitting herself between work and family. Working under a god-like being can’t be anything but stressful.

Not surprised to hear Corey’s mother abandoned him and left his father. From what was said in Chapter 13, it seems alpha’s that are happy to have beta children are far from the norm. At least he ended up with a loving family.

Now moving away from the character stuff, the “Fire” continues to be a head scratcher. I can only assume when Kayla says the fire is a piece of her, she means whatever energy she wields. The fire also seems to have a mind or at least follows Kayla’s desire to find people who shares a similar mindset to her concerning beta’s, but it’s clear she can make anyone an Omega if go by Abigail.

I’m not sure how the fire is guiding in the natural born Omega’s though. When Claire mentioned that Omega’s feels intense satisfaction helping Beta’s or punishing Alpha’s, is that the fire causing that? And the reason Jenna doesn’t need the fire helping her with that is because she naturally feels that way. I wonder why Melody is different then. It’s a bit confusing.

Ah well, at least we now know why the three girls was transferred out of Jenna’s hands. She wouldn’t have cared if Naomi and Stephanie had the potential to be reformed. Marion being a “treat” for Claire is messed up, but understandable considering what she’s done.

Author's Response:

One of the things I tried to get through with Kayla is that she isn't perfect, not by any means. She has a shitty relationship with her son, has never taken the time to visit Abigail's family despite how close they are (and only agrees to do so here out of guilt), has no issues with employing a young woman that she knows to be a sadist as long as she keeps her shit under control, is incredibly invasive, and has some violent tendencies of her own. And this is before getting into anything she did in the past.

That baggage is also what makes Abby a bit of a treat to write for me. Woman went through a lot of shit when she was young that deeply affected her, and she may in fact have very few peers that can relate to her.

You are mostly correct about it. The Fire does contain a bit of what Kayla derives her power from, as well as an imprint of sorts of her will. I would not assume that she can just make anyone an Omega. Abigail ultimately is the only one she's done this for, after all.

Think of what the Fire is doing as this: Normally, Claire does attain a sense of satisfaction from acting kindly toward and helping a Beta due to a combination of instinctual and learned behaviors, whether they be learned from her own experiences with Betas/from how she was raised/from the lessons given at the Institute. The evolved Fire perverts this, and establishes a link between those behaviors and delivering a punishment to an Alpha. What might have originally been an act that was carried out with some level of resignation becomes one carried out with a level of satisfaction, because it's "helping." As for why Melody is different, well...she doesn't want to be an Enforcer, because the work itself disagrees with her character. It's why she pursued another path within Aegis. With no impetus to evolve into a state to help ease the emotional cost of carrying out that work, her Fire remains the same.

Well I had no idea what was going on in that flashback but it seemed pretty epic. I’m even more interested in an origin story.

---

So…Abigail Everett-Lindon? When did Abigail take up Kayla’s last name? Also it seems Abigail is a bit of a drinker, but I’m sure Omega’s don’t have to worry about getting drunk. This chapter also confirmed what I thought; that Beta’s were treated like shit before the Omega’s rose to power, even less than household pets. This is a pretty big reveal. Now I’m even surer a violent altercation happened between Omega’s and Alpha’s over Beta rights.

So the top secret project that Corey couldn’t know about was a compressor that would have supposedly shrunk Alpha’s that tried to mess with a Beta. And this compressor seems to use some cosmic energy that Kayla is imbued with.  Well it sucks the project failed, I’m sure Claire is going to be disappointed, but this story has taken a level in science fiction with cosmic particles and Kayla being a godly being that can manipulate reality and read thoughts.

And since Claire can shrink things using compression, I wonder if all Omega’s have this cosmic energy inside them.

I’m thinking this story needs a new title now lol

“Consequences” Seems like a subtitle in the greater “Omega” Universe.

Author's Response:

Glad the little teaser piqued interest.

You may get answers to a few of these things soon, we'll have to see.

And oh, it is. I have a lot jumbling around in my head for other stuff to do in the universe.

A unique take on the lil-gul-bro style of world, but it seems the Omega’s are superior in other ways and not just the biggest like a Brobdingnagian if they don’t even have hospitals, assuming they don’t need them.

And oh man what a twist at the end, it puts the situation in an entirely new light. Claire has A LOT of restraint considering its personal now.

A story about cruel/apathetic giantesses getting what’s coming to them isn’t common enough. I’m glad this story is filling the niche.

Naomi enjoying torturing Corey the most (at least from his perspective) is unsettling. I wonder what’s up with that.

Omegas seem to be genetically altered to interact with Beta’s if Claire can see Corey in detail and feel his touch. I do too wonder if Claire was born naturally or made into an Omega. It’s uncommon seeing gentle micro interaction and I feel you pulled it off well. Claire is not the common mega giantess, that’s for sure. If Corey’s father is a beta their family dynamic must have been very interesting.

Author's Response:

I'll be taking a nice, hard look at Naomi in the next chapter. I'll just say that the pain wasn't what she was getting off on, and that Claire was paying a lot of attention to her in chapter 3.

Man you know you got a great GTS story when smut and storytelling elements are interwoven so effortlessly that it feels natural in the story. I really enjoy your writing style Ackbar.

Claire is already one of my favorite GTS ladies thanks to this chapter. Her view point is so refreshing and I enjoy her relationship with her brother. As for Naomi, well she is pretty pathetic, but I hope she can become a better person from this. I also hope Claire can keep her emotions in check dealing with the other two girls.

My guess from what Claire said is that the Omega’s and Alpha’s went to war or had some kind of conflict in the past and the Omega’s won. I do wonder if the Alpha’s are normal sized and Beta’s are small or if there is more to that.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Glad you're enjoying it still!

I'll say that Claire is perfectly willing to give them a fair shot. She's also perfectly willing to give them plenty of rope to hang themselves with.

And man, I really can't wait to introduce Dr. Everett just to see how it effects discussion.

Compression is an apt name for this chapter and it probably references whatever Claire did to shrink Stephanie. I don’t think that shrinking process is perfect or even allowed outside disciplinary action. I can see how that could be abused otherwise. I also wonder if that’s Claire’s natural ability or some technology allows her to do that.

Stephanie seems to subscribe to the typical giantess size based Darwinism where the small should be at the whim of the large and that’s just the way things are even if she’s the small one compared to Claire. Whatever she did eight years ago seems to have heavily influenced why she has that way of thinking.

Damn we learn a lot this chapter.

What happened to Stephanie would fuck up anyone. I actually blame her parents more. They should have sent her to counseling. The chilling thing is that if Claire accidently killed Corey, there wouldn’t even be a body to find in most cases.

Also the chapter never said anything about Stephanie’s brother being adopted or being a step brother like Corey is to Claire, does that mean Alpha parents and give birth to a Beta child?

Don’t think I like the sound of Omega’s being extensively conditioned to care about Beta’s, it makes the whole thing less genuine if it wasn’t a fully conscious decision they made on their own, but then again since Beta’s are mite sized to Omega’s it would be hard to care about a species you can barely see. I guess Dr. Everett feels the end justifies the means. I also think Dr. Everett used to be a beta herself and that is why she feels so strongly about it.

I’m also starting to see why Dr. Everett gave Claire authority over the girls. Her conditioning would probably make everything seem black and white in regards to Alpha’s and Beta’s but it’s never like that in the real world. So far Claire has been wrong about both girls and even Marion might not be the monster she thinks she is. But I guess she’s planning to reenact what happened to her brother - three girls, one tiny.

Lastly, Melody having a crush on Corey just makes me wonder how the hell the sex life of Corey’s and Claire’s parents worked, if they even had one. I don’t think their marriage was arranged just so Claire could interact with beta’s.

Author's Response:

I'll go into the fallout of the death a little bit at a later time.

On the conditioning, it's less being conditioned to care and more them being conditioned to....well, Everett will cover that soon enough.

Reread it again and this is what I get for reading too fast. Stephanie’s family was a tragic parallel to Claire’s family. I didn't even notice her father was a beta at first. I wonder if that event broke up the family.

Man this story just makes Marion seem like a real snake.

Jenna is pretty self-righteous but I agree with some of the points she made. At the end of the day, Naomi saying sorry doesn’t mean jack shit. Naomi and her friends would have killed Corey if Claire didn’t rescue him. Even worse, Naomi was just a wimp that fell to peer pressure. Stephanie has a legitimate psychological problem.

Sorry means acknowledgement, but it doesn’t mean repentance.

However, seeing that two out of the three girls require rehabilitation more than punishment, Jenna’s eye for an eye mentality would have been horrible if she did have Naomi as her charge like originally planned. Perhaps she’ll get her wish with Marion though.

Other than that, I liked the bits of exposition you put into the chapter, learning more about the institute Claire and her friends went to and their experiences with betas.

So awesome chapter as usual, brah

Another apt chapter name.

I have to admit I thought you were going to give Marion a troubled past like the others but I think it’s good that she is completely irredeemable. Naomi and Stephanie needed a foil.

Her father coming into play was expected. I hope Melody crushes Marion’s hopes at a lighter sentence and refuses the obvious bribe.

I have a feeling that rum bottle will get many uses next chapter.

Since Abigail specifically thought of her husband when she mentioned the detonators, I believe they temporarily grow a Beta or Alpha to Omega size so they can have same size interaction.

Must be hell for city planners to optimize land use for three different racial sizes, but I digress…

Overall it was a good chapter. Nice of you to introduce Kyle and Alexis after Melody brought them up in the previous chapter.

Naomi must have super strict Asian parents if they disowned her like that and it’s terrible that Marion managed to destroy Stephanie’s family. I hope Naomi and Stephanie come out of this with a better outlook and that Marion doesn’t come out of Claire’s stomach next time.

So it seems beta size is a dominant or recessive gene that alpha’s can pass on to their children. Interesting…

What is more interesting is the “Fire” that Claire mentioned that made Alexis’ parents ascend to Omega’s.

So do we finally meet the enigmatic Dr. Everett next chapter?

Also congradualtions on passing 100 reviews. Not many stories break that mark.

Author's Response:

Expect the Fire to be a pretty important thing, and yes we will be meeting Dr. Everett in the next chapter.

And thank you. When I started this thing I honestly did not expect to get anywhere near this level of feedback on it. It is wonderful motivation.

I don’t know, I think I like Marion being pure evil. I think she’s supposed to represent what the Omega’s are fighting against.

Marion would be rotting in jail for decades anyway for killing 12 people.

@Nostory and Pkong

I believe that Omega’s already crossed the line when they had to use force originally to make the Alpha’s accept the Beta’s as people. If we go with what Claire said to Naomi in chapter 5 about Omega’s eating Alpha’s in the early days. It makes it seem like beta mistreatment was so widespread before the Omega’s showed up that force was the only option back then. So far the story hasn’t told us how long Aegis has been around or if beta’s had a civilization before the Omega’s showed up.

There is too little information to go on to make anything but speculation regarding the Omega’s influence around the world. All we know is that they’re incredibly advanced, they have their own set of laws, and that they might originally be Beta’s or Alpha’s that were transformed by some process. We also know that Alpha’s can aid Aegis when the need arises. And finally that Omega’s are a huge source of humanitarian aid for betas.

Omega’s haven’t been shown doing anything evil or mistreating Alpha’s for fun unlike Marion who can kill two people and get away with it Scott free.

So the difference between Omega's and Marion is that one is trying to help a lesser race despite said race being the size of mites to them even if their methods are shady and unclear and the other have no problem maniplating Alpha's and Beta's to her own ends
