THE GODDESS

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Girls, they wanna have fu-un, ohh girls they wanna have fun!”

Emily tapped along to the beat on the steering wheel as she sang along to her favorite radio station. Her roof was rolled down, and the breeze whipped through her hair as she sped down the highway towards her aunt's house in Holly Springs. The road was flat, straight, and, apart from her bright blue mini cooper, completely empty. On either side stood gently swaying fields of grain, blanketing the land as far as the eye could see.

Emily was looking forward to spending the month at her aunt Debbie’s. She had been summering there since she was six, but this was the first time she was making the trip alone. Her parents were away till August, celebrating their thirtieth anniversary on a cruise in the Bahamas. Emily was a little jealous that she hadn’t been able to go, but staying at her aunt’s was a bit of a luxury in itself. Debbie’s husband Jonathan was a successful lawyer who owned his own law firm. Their spacious house had a pool in the backyard and was situated on acres of empty fields just outside of Holly Springs. Emily had fond memories playing chicken with her cousins and tossing frisbee with her aunt’s two border collies. Debbie also happened to be an excellent cook. Emily thought longingly of  the fried chicken dinner her aunt had promised over the phone.

Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive!”

The red light next to her gas gauge began to blink. Oh fuck, Emily muttered under her breath. Her car had been giving her trouble lately, even more so after her dad had “taken a look at it”. She had been meaning to schedule an appointment with a mechanic before the trip, but hadn’t gotten around to it. The steering wheel began to shake in her hands, a sure sign that the car was about to crap out on her. Emily slowed down and checked the map on her phone. There was a 24-hour gas station a couple miles down the road. Hopefully someone there knew enough about cars to help her out.

Pedro took a long drag on his cigarette and blew the smoke towards the brim of his hat, wishing for the hundredth time that he had some pot instead. He ashed the cigarette at his waist and leaned around the corner of the store to check out the gas pumps and parking lot. Empty, like always. Chances were that no one would come to the station this late at night, but technically he wasn’t supposed to be smoking near the pumps and he didn’t want to lose his job if Mr. Langley decided to make a surprise appearance. The rotten old bastard. Pedro had dealt with bosses like Langley before, older guys who thought they were doing him some big favor by hiring him to work graveyard shifts for six bucks an hour. Pedro bit down on his cigarette and spit out of the corner of his mouth. Langley was a jackass, but at least he was too much of a drunk to notice a missing pack of cigs here and there.

A pair of headlights coming down the road made him jump,  but the car was going too slow to be Langley. Pedro crushed the cigarette under his heel and hurried inside behind the counter. What kind of jerk would be driving through rural Kansas this late at night? He watched the car pull into the lot. To his surprise, a young woman stepped out. He watched her circle the car and give the right front tire a tentative kick. Pedro hoped she wasn’t going to ask him for help. He didn’t know jack shit about fixing cars.

He bent over and pretended to be busy sorting the lottery cards. The bells on the door jingled.

“Hello?” The woman said in a small voice.

Pedro stood up straight. In front of him was a slim young woman, around twenty years old. She had a pretty, angular face with heavy lashes and big brown eyes. Her dark hair was done up in a loose ponytail. She was wearing jeans and a blue tank top. Pedro couldn’t help but glance at the generous amount of cleavage she had on display. Very generous. Her tits stuck out from her slender frame like twin cantaloupes, barely contained in a giant black bra whose thick straps were visible under the shoulder strings of her tank top. They jiggled as she walked in, fighting for space under the top with the slow, heavy undulations characteristic of big natural tits. Pedro knew a thing or two about big boobs, and figured she had to be at least a G cup, maybe more.

“Sorry, my car’s giving me trouble and I was wondering if there was someone here who could help me out?”

Pedro snapped out of it. He hoped she hadn’t noticed him staring at her chest. Then again, with tits that big there was no way this was the first time a guy had checked her out.

“Yeah, yeah let me take a look. Want some water maybe?” he fumbled under the counter for a plastic cup and hastily filled it from the slurpee machine behind him.

“Oh, sure, thanks,” the girl took the cup smiled at him “I’m parked just outside.”

He followed her out to the car. He was pleased to see that she had a round, tight ass to go with that incredible rack. Her tits swayed as she set the cup down and bent over to pop the hood. Smoke billowed out from the engine and she started to cough.

“Oh shit, it’s worse than before,” she said, clearing the air with her hand.

“Let me see,” the girl stepped back to give him space. The air around the engine was hot. There were a lot of tubes and plastic boxes inside. He recognized the cap where windshield fluid was supposed to go and tapped on it, pretending to be deep in thought. Finally, he cleared his throat and adjusted his hat.

“Looks like an engine problem to me.”

“Oh?”

Pedro straightened and adjusted his hat again, “yeah, I see this a lot with the smaller cars.”

“Can you fix it?” the girl frowned.

“No, I need tools. Like a wrench, you know. We don’t have that here.”

“Is there a place nearby?”

“Probably Holly Springs, not that far, just keep going down this road.”

The girl stood there for a moment, then sighed and shut the hood, “well, thanks anyways.”

“Yeah no problem. You want a candy bar or something?” he gestured to the store.

“No, thanks, I’d better get going,” with a disappointed smile she climbed back into the car. Her boobs jiggled as she sat down. For a moment Pedro considered making up a reason to get her back inside. There was nobody around. He could get away with anything out here. But the impulse passed. He took a step back and watched her pull out of the gas station. He wondered if he had been right about the engine. Hopefully the car wasn’t about to explode. The girl hadn’t even given him her name. Oh well. He dug around in his pocket for another cigarette.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emily made it about three miles before her engine sputtered out. She pulled over to the side of the road and got another faceful of smoke from under the hood. She checked her phone, no reception. Defeated she sat on the ground. Broken down at night in the middle of an empty highway, and it was all her fault. Her first road trip alone, and she had messed everything up. Her mom was going to be pissed.

“Fuck!” she yelled, and slumped over on her back, “fuck!” she yelled again, this time up at the stars. Hot tears welled up in her eyes. She closed them tightly and tried to calm down. It was going to work out okay. The guy at the station seemed nice, he’d let her use the phone and she would call her aunt and get a tow truck to pick up her car.

Suddenly Emily noticed a gentle humming noise that made her open her eyes. The stars shone down on her, brilliant and white. She stood up and looked down the road. Was someone coming? The humming got louder. It wasn’t coming from any specific direction that she could tell. It was just everywhere, so strong that she could feel it in her teeth. She spun around. There, hanging in the air like a silver Christmas ornament was an enormous metallic sphere. Emily’s stomach jumped into her throat. She opened her mouth to scream but no sound came out. She felt her body rising into the air. There was a blue flash, a feeling like every part of her body was turning inside out, then nothing.

Pedro rubbed his eyes and glanced up at the clock on the wall. It was three in the morning. Apart from the buzzing fluorescent lights the store was still and silent. Only two more hours until the next shift came in and he could go home. Pedro closed his eyes and imagined how good it was going to feel to pop some nyquil, crawl back into bed, and drift off to sleep.

THOOM!

“Fuck!” Pedro cried out as his entire body was jostled by a powerful tremor. Merchandise tumbled off the shelves, milk bottles fell and shattered on the floor, and the lights flickered wildly. As a San Diego native, Pedro was no stranger to earthquakes. He dropped to his knees, covering his neck with his arms and steadying himself against the counter. His whole body tensed in anticipation of the next tremor.

It never came. Pedro eased himself onto his feet. His heart sank as he surveyed the mess. The sound of running water could be heard coming from behind the bathroom door. The quake must have burst a pipe.

Pedro walked to the door, stepping over piles of merchandise on the way. He hoped his car wasn’t damaged. The door had been wrenched slightly out of its frame by the quake and hairline cracks ran through both glass panes. He braced his shoulder against it and pushed his way out into the parking lot.

It was still dark out. The parking lot was still and calm, as if nothing had happened. The asphalt had buckled in some places. Pedro glanced apprehensively at the fueling stations, assessing the damage, but as far as he could tell they were fine. He took out his phone, flicked on the flashlight, and jogged over to his truck. The earthquake had shifted the car several feet forward, pushing it against the guardrail and badly denting the front bumper. Fixing that was gonna cost him a few hundred bucks for sure. The tires, chassis, and bed were unharmed. He climbed inside and tried the engine. It sputtered to life on the first try. Thank fuck, he thought. There was no way he could have afforded big repairs.

Pedro looked back at the store. He could see the flourescent lights flickering weakly through the window. The neon budweiser sign was cracked in half and hanging at an angle.  It was going to take some serious work to get the place back into shape. Not even Mr. Langley could reasonably expect him to take care of that mess himself. On top of that had no idea how his condo had fared during the earthquake. Nobody could possibly blame him for heading home right now. Hell, it might not even be safe to stick around. The whole place could go up in flames any minute. Pedro spit out the window and shifted the car into gear. A dead end job at a gas station wasn’t worth losing his life in an explosion.

He pulled out of the parking lot and turned onto the road. The car bounced over a large pothole on his way out. That’s new. The fields of grain on either side of the interstate looked untouched. Pedro steadied the wheel with his knees and fished out a cigarette. He was still feeling a little shaken. The sun was starting to rise in earnest now. He could see further down the road, past the dim yellow light of his headlights. A thick crack ran through the middle of the asphalt. A fallen sapling blocked the way a few hundred feet ahead of him. And past that…

Past that the road stopped.

Pedro’s pulse quickened. He didn’t know how to process what he was seeing. About a quarter mile ahead of him the road just stopped, cleaved by a dun colored wall covering the entire field of view his windshield afforded him. He slowed down. For some reason Pedro was reminded of a TV show he had seen where a huge dome descended on a small town, trapping everyone underneath. As he got closer he could see the wall wasn’t smooth, but rather covered in shallow ridges. He stopped the car and got out.

Pedro’s parents had taken him to see the Grand Canyon as a child. Some of his most vivid memories were of looking down into the canyon, feeling an overwhelming sense of awe at its sheer size and grandeur, at the way it dominated the surrounding landscape. He had never seen anything so BIG. And now, staring up at the wall, cigarette hanging limply out of the corner of his mouth, he was gripped by that same feeling of dumbstruck amazement. He saw the wall wasn’t endless, although getting around it would entail a serious detour. It was maybe 800 feet from end to end, easily covering the road and flattening the grain fields on either side. Its height, however, was much more formidable. Pedro craned his neck, his eyes tracing the curvature of the structure. It was more like a skyscraper than a wall, although he got the feeling that even the tallest skyscraper he’d ever seen would have barely reached halfway up this monolith. There was something unnerving about its color. His heart was pounding now. Pedro looked up as far as he could, straining to see the structure’s summit.

His cigarette dropped to the ground, and his stomach followed suit.

Those were toes.

A range of tan hills, the smallest the size of a football stadium, the largest several times that, each with a delicate pattern of prints. Shaking, Pedro took a step back. The feeling of awe turned into terror, and then hopelessness. He was an insect. A speck of dust. He had never felt so small, so totally insignificant. Pedro screamed and sprinted back to his truck. As if on cue, the earth began to shake once more as the gigantic foot stirred from its resting place. He tripped, bloodying his hands and knees on the asphalt. There was a sound like a distant avalanche, an enormous sigh that split the air and shook his body like rolling thunder. The voice of a god. Pedro clasped his ears in pain. The huge toes spread apart slightly and wiggled in a terrifying display of causal power. Like a mountain being ripped up by its roots the gargantuan foot rose into the air with an audible whoosh, blotting out the sun. He was cast in darkness. There was nowhere to go. It was simply too big. He was going to be crushed underfoot like an ant. Pedro watched as the building sized toes spread slightly to brace for impact with the ground and his vision was filled with nothing but tan. He raised his arms pathetically, as if he could somehow hope to withstand the inevitable, unimaginable impact. There was a sound of rushing wind, an instant of unbelievable pressure.

And the earth shook for miles around.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emily opened her eyes. It was dark and cold. Her temples were throbbing. She squeezed her eyes shut and grimaced. She felt foggy and lethargic, almost hungover. Her arms and legs felt heavy. She tried to piece together what had happened. Her car had broken down. There had been a bright light. Terrible pain.

The ship! Emily had never given much thought to UFOs, but there just wasn’t another explanation for what she had seen. Had she been abducted? She opened her eyes again. The sun was barely starting to rise through the fog. Around her was nothing but flat tan colored ground. Maybe they had returned her to earth and wiped her memory?

Emily suddenly realized why she was cold - her clothing was gone. She groaned. With some effort she pushed herself up onto her feet and took a shaky step. The wispy knee-high fog blanketing the ground swirled around her legs, dissipating at her touch. She bent down and swirled it with her hand. The cloudy vapor churned around her fingers like smoke. It felt cold - and surprisingly wet. She flicked the moisture off her hand and straightened up to look around. The empty, flat, field stretched as far as she could see. Most of it was covered by uneven patches of the unusual fog. The parts of the ground she could see were mottled tan and green, almost like a patterned carpet. There were no landmarks, no roads, no signs of civilization. Maybe this isn’t earth after all

Emily was surprised that, lost as she was, she barely felt any anxiety. In fact she felt better than she had in a long time - as if she had just awoken from an especially refreshing nap. Her headache was subsiding as well. The whole situation was so surreal it felt like a dream. In any case, there didn’t seem to be any immediate danger. With nothing better to do, Emily picked a direction and started walking. The ground beneath her feet was soft and yielded a little under every step. It was reassuring to know that she would be able to retrace her footprints if need be. As she walked, her heavy breasts jiggled and swayed. The cool air was making her nipples hard. Emily hoped her clothes turned up before she bumped into someone.

The sun had risen in earnest now, and along with it a bit of a breeze. The fog began to disperse, giving Emily a better view of the ground. It really did look quite a lot like a carpet. A seemingly random pattern of squares and circles, each about the size of her hand, colored varying shades of green and tan. In some places the geometric patterns gave way to rough edged patches of darker brown. She was reminded of a zen garden she had visited once in the city, where monks had raked beautiful patterns in the sand accented with arrangements of smooth stones. A glimmer of light in the distance caught her eye. She saw what looked like a large puddle of water a few yards ahead. As she got closer, she noticed that the dirt around the puddle was grey rather than green. The texture looked different too, more like tiny crystals than soil. An intricate pattern of gossamer thin lines crisscrossed the grey patch like a spiderweb. Emily furrowed her brow, what the hell is going on here. Cautiously, she extended a foot and prodded the crystals with her toe. They disintegrated with no resistance. A small puff of smoke wafted up from her toe print. Curious, she got on her hands and knees and brought her face up to the crystals to get a closer look. Her hefty tits swung low, almost brushing the ground. She squinted her eyes. The tiny structures were so fine that it took a moment for her eyes to adjust to their level of detail.

Her heart skipped a beat.

A city. A tiny, living, city. The structures weren’t crystals, but houses and buildings, the largest of which was barely the size of a grain of rice. The criss crossing lines were roads covered in streams of colorful dots which must have been cars. She focused harder. There, between the houses and cars, streaming around the streets and city blocks were tiny swarms of black specs, barely the size of mites.

People.

They were obviously running, trying desperately to get away from her, she realized. She also realized what a terrifying sight she must have made, a naked titaness peering down at them from the sky. It all made sense now. The strange fog, the patterns on the field. She was huge. Miles tall. Her approaching steps must have felt like earthquakes to these people. Emily’s heart sank as she realized how much damage she caused with her foot earlier. The buildings had crumbled so easily beneath her big toe. How many homes had been destroyed? How many people had died because of her careless curiosity? Emily felt hot tears begin to form in the corners of her eyes.

“I’m so so sorry!”

She stood up, and took a step back. Suddenly feeling very naked she covered her crotch with one hand and tried to hide her breasts with the other, with limited success.

What am I going to do?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David sat stiffly on the futon, eyes glued to the TV screen. A mug of lukewarm tea sat forgotten on the coffee table in front of him. He still couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The news station had been covering it non stop since the first quake had occurred around three in the morning. At first they reported it as an earthquake, some freak tectonic event that had struck east of Holly Springs, shaking floors and rattling window panes for miles around. That was before the helicopter cameras had managed to see what was really going on. Before they saw…

Her.

David had woken up to the sound of sirens outside his window as three fire trucks whizzed past his apartment complex, lights flashing, with a cavalcade of police cars in tow. At first he thought nothing of it, but then six more zoomed by, screaming like firecrackers. Curious, he flicked on the TV and found out that apparently, he had slept through the worst earthquake to hit Kansas in fifty years. The only earthquake to hit Kansas in fifty years. Not a big one, but strong enough to noticeably shake the ground for miles around, bursting a sewage pipe or two and downing some power lines. He checked his phone and saw a text from his boss - city bus services had been suspended due to the natural disaster and all shifts had been canceled indefinitely.

He set some water to boil and went to his room to get dressed. From his bedroom, David heard the newscaster’s conversation with the helicopter crew that was investigating the damage around the quake’s epicenter.

We’re getting closer to the location where our analysts say the earthquake originated from. I’m seeing, fallen trees, roads are looking pretty bad. Expect closures and delays for any travel outside the city.”

“Do we know what caused the quake yet?” The newscaster asked.

We aren’t sure. All we’ve got to go on right now is this morning’s statement from geologists at Brookline College, the earthquake was a 5.6 on the Richter scale, the largest ever recorded in this part of the country. A total anomaly. Sources speculate recent fracking operations in the area may have disturbed tectonic plates in the earth, but as of right now we have no official word on the cause.”

David went to the kitchen and steeped some tea. He wondered how long the city bus service would be cancelled for; if the roads were really that bad it could be a couple days, maybe more. He had slept through a natural disaster and woken up to a surprise long weekend. Wish earthquakes would happen more often than once every fifty years, he chuckled to himself.

“Pat we - what? What do you mean?” The camera began to pick up on a low rumbling in the background, deep and hollow like distant thunder.

What is that? Aftershocks? W-what. Oh my god. Pat I-”

The audio cut off. David poked his head around the door to the living room. For a moment the screen showed a very confused Pat Roger, two fingers pressed against his earpiece. Then, the feed cut back in with a crackle of static.

Get it on the camera. Are you getting this? Don’t lose a second of this - Pat? W-we’re not exactly sure what we're looking at here. Uh - take a look.”

The broadcast switched back to the cameraman’s video feed. The reporters had been following one of the main interstates out of the city. Amber fields of wheat stretched for miles around on both sides of the road. Even from the birds eye view afforded by the copter, David could make out the cracked asphalt the reporters had been talking about. The camera panned up a bit. It was obvious that whoever was holding it was having trouble keeping their hands steady. The grainy image slowly came into focus.

At first David didn’t know what he was supposed to be looking at. A span of beige hills, the largest easily more than a hundred feet tall, covering the road and fields in the distance. It was like a mountain range had just plopped out of the sky. They were strangely round and smooth looking, each capped by a flat, lighter tan field that had a dull shine to it, almost like laquer finish. Behind them rose an enormous tower of the same tan color. The top of the structure was well beyond the scope of the camera. It seemed to be connected to the hills, but the distance and resolution made it difficult to make out the exact shape and scope of whatever it was. Suddenly the hills shifted - more so twitched - their enormous bulk rising slightly upwards off the ground and coming back down with audible thuds. There was no other movement. The cameraman cursed audibly as the resulting wind jostled the helicopter.

The casual, almost familiar movement jogged David’s thoughts. He finally realized what he was looking at. Not hills, but five gigantic toes, capped with clear polished nails. The tower stretching into the sky behind tham was an enormous ankle, taller and thicker than any skyscraper. It was a foot. A woman’s foot.

She had just wiggled her toes.

David plopped onto the futon. He felt very weak. He heard the reporter hurriedly saying something in the background, but he couldn’t bring himself to pay attention. He watched as the camera panned up, and up, and up, revealing a huge ankle and vast expanse of smooth shin. The rest of the body was out of view, blurred by distance and partially obscured by wispy clouds. She was just too big. The helicopter turned, revealing another colossal foot hulking in the distance, dominating the landscape. Had they been normal sized, her feet would have been considered elegant, even dainty, a fact that made their incredible bulk all the more astounding.

Somebody in apartment above him screamed. David barely registered the noise. He sat transfixed, brow furrowed in horror, unable to peel his eyes from the screen.

The camera cut back to a very pale looking Pat Roger. A breaking news alert began to scroll across the bottom of the screen. Pat cleared his throat and swallowed hard.

I’ll be honest here, I - I’m not sure of the best way to report this but, it - uh - it appears a giant woman has appeared just east of Holly Springs. Please bear with us as we continue to report on this extremely - um - unusual development.”

At the words “giant woman” David exhaled hard. He hadn’t even realized he had been holding his breath.

I’m getting word that she has begun walking towards the city. Authorities are urging all Holly Springs citizens to return home. Anyone living in Sharon, Bakersfield, or Munroe may also be affected. As of right now it is difficult to determine her exact trajectory.  In anticipation of any kind of seismic events we remind viewers that the safest way take cover from potential earthquakes is in a closet or basement, if possible.”

David could hear more commotion upstairs and car horns sounding outside. He shakily walked over to the kitchen and looked out the window. The parking lot was full of cars trying to get out. The road was already becoming congested with traffic. He saw some people running from their homes. Others watched the chaos from their porches or front yards. One man was standing on the sidewalk holding a camera. David watched as the man yelled something and pointed into the distance. People around him began to point and scream as well. David grabbed his phone from the counter and bolted out the door without even bothering to put on his sneakers. As he ran down the stairs he felt the first tremors shake the building. He ran out onto the sidewalk and joined the growing crowd, eyes fixed on the horizon.

The ground beneath him began to tremble rhythmically. David could hear muffled booms coming from far away, like the rumble of distant thunder. The people around him spoke to each other in panicked tones. One woman was crying.

“There she is!” someone screamed.

David watched in terror as a dark shape appeared in the distance and slowly grew bigger.

BOOM

Haloed by the morning sun, the colossal woman’s head crested the horizon in the distance. She was looking straight ahead. Even in his terrified state David couldn’t help but notice she was very beautiful.

BOOM

Her neck and shoulders slowly came into view. Her figure was hazy from the distance and partially obscured by wispy clouds, but it grew clearer and larger with every earth shaking step she took. He heard people in the crowd gasp as her chest came into view - she was naked. Her breasts, which would have been considered huge even had she been normal size, were the size of mountains. Enormous, round, and heavy, they jiggled ponderously with every step she took, their monstrous tonnage swaying slowly from side to side. Her nipples were obviously hard. Although they were probably the size of pyramids they were utterly dwarfed by the sheer bulk of her bosom.

BOOM

Gigantic waves of flesh rippled across her breasts as she took another step. Her breasts bounced freely against each other, momentarily forming a line of cleavage that could  have swallowed skyscrapers with ease. The rest of her figure was coming into view. David saw that despite her enormous bust, the titaness had a slender, fit, body. The ground was shaking quite hard now. Her hips cleared the horizon, followed by slender legs. Her naked thighs, gigantic and powerful, rippled as she walked. A hint of dark neatly trimmed pubes peeked out from between her legs. As she took another step David realized that her feet, which had seemed so impossibly huge from the perspective of the news helicopter, were actually quite petite.

BOOM

In another few steps she would almost be upon them. The crowd began to disperse. Some people ran off screaming, others rushed to their cars or back into their houses. Most people however just stood, frozen, transfixed by the beauty and size of the approaching colossus. David didn’t see much point in running. It was futile. There was no way to escape. She was simply too big. He had never felt so tiny and helpless in his life.

BOOM

Finally the gigantic woman stopped. She had reached the edge of the city. David had to look up to see her toes. Even her pinky toe was huge, as big as his entire apartment complex, if not bigger. She could easily squash the entire neighborhood underfoot. He craned his neck, looking up her enormous legs. The bottoms of her immense breasts blocked her face from view. Her giant hand flew through the air, brushing away the clouds in a casual display of power. She peered down at them over the swell of her bosom. People screamed in terror under the weight of her gaze. David felt like an insect. He was nothing to this woman. A speck of dirt. She could end their lives in an instant just by raising her foot.

David had never been the religious type, but now, cowering in the shadow of this sky sized woman, he understood what it meant to fear a god.
