Preface

This note is to preface what I hope is a series of GTS short stories primarily written by the chatbot ChatGPT.

ChatGPT has been were newsworthy the past several weeks because of its ability to generate content.  It is an example of something called "Generative Artificial Intelligence".

About ChatGPT

About ChatGPT, from Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChatGPT

ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. It is built on top of OpenAI's GPT-3 family of large language models, and is fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.

ChatGPT was launched as a prototype on November 30, 2022, and quickly garnered attention for its detailed responses and articulate answers across many domains of knowledge. Its uneven factual accuracy was identified as a significant drawback.

Anyone can use ChatGPT; it is free, but you will have to sign up for a free Open AI account to login.

Once you have done that, you can go here and chat away.

=====

I have been experimenting with ChatGPT for a little over 1 week now discovering how it works, its flaws and limitations, and the limitations it will place on users due to its content policy.

Some things to note that I have learned since I began using ChatGPT.

1. Once you are logged-in, you can remain logged in; it must use a cookie to remember you.

2. All your past chats will appear on the left and you can continue them.

3. IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY TITLE your chats although you can rename them.  Some of those titles are very interesting.

4. You can save your chats as mhtml files.  This is handy since you may wish to delete them later so they don't embarrassingly appear in the menu on the left of your chats.  However, once you delete a chat, the knowledge of it - including "the AI facts" that ChatGPT has learned will go away.  In other words, you cannot upload a chat and then continue.  So, delete a chat only when you do not want to continue it.

5. Be careful with what you write; the system can be overloaded or you have to reload a chat or, worse, the Content Policy blocker blocks what you have written.  So, it is best to write what you want to write to ChatGPT first putting it in a text file and then copying into ChatGPT's text box.

6. ChatGPT may believe you are going to "cross the line" regarding its Content Policy and so it may take the initiative and give for chat closure with an emphatice "The end." at the end.  You can override that though.

7.  I don't want to bias anything but, if you use ChatGPT, you may discover some of its... "biases" is the wrong word ... but I will simply say "ethical tendencies".

"ChatGTS"

As part of my experimentation to learn this chatbot system, I decided to interact with the system to create GTS-related stories.

What I have had has been a bit hodgepodge since I was learning how to clearly talk with the chatbot - partly to get it to understand what I am exactly requesting or when I am giving it background.  I also needed to attempt to reword things to get around the more-or-less automated content policy safeguards.

The results were very encouraging and I was rather surprised that the chatbot "went there" with some of the things it has produced on its own without me requesting it.  It is infuriating to use at times because it seems dumb as a post, but, other times, it is creepy at knowing things and, in particular, that it seems to get to know who you are through your commands which, of course, echo your desires.

=====

OK, with the experience I gained using the system, today (M 09 JAN 2023), I started chats more formally.  My first post in a chat would involve considerable "set-up" - world-building and character traits and then I'd give it a scenario and have it write the story.

That is my plan for this series (I've never done a series before and not sure how to do it) is to provide the set-up for a story, then let ChatGPT write it.  Each chapter will be  that chat with ChatGPT.  I may give it the same set-up more than once so each Giantessworld story will be one set-up and each chapter will be the different responses that ChatGPT writes for that set-up.

I want to be clear: I am providing the set-up, but ChatGPT is the author.  Furthermore, I will try to not "lead the witness", so to speak, with my requests as I want ChatGPT to write its own story, but I may need to help it "move on", so to speak, to the next scene.

This story contains multiple independent ChatGPT chats regarding a particular scenario that I provide the chatbot.

Each chapter is a different chat, but the scenario to start the chat is the same for each chat.
