Summary: The world was irreparably changed on June 16, 2000 when a curious illness which is now commonly referred to as 'The Lowes' was first made public. Patient Zero, a man by the name of Timothy Nyle Lowe or 'TiNy' as his friends so aptly called him, expressed that he began feeling strange at the turn of the millennia and blames the Y2K bug for his misfortune.
Whenever Mr. Lowe was exposed to a phobia he suffered under, his body would reduce in size and weight until he was roughly half an inch tall almost instantly. After enough time had passed and his mind settled, Mr. Lowe would return to his natural size over the course of several seconds. Interestingly, if Mr. Lowe was in any kind of confined space, in someone's grasp, wrapped in string or in a space not large enough to accommodate his full size, he would remain in his reduced state until he had sufficient room to grow.
Over the course of the next year, more and more cases similar to Mr. Lowe came flooding in from across the world and it is believed that by the end of 2002, 100% of the world's population had 'The Lowes'.
Each person's symptoms are tied to their individual phobias and as such therapists and psychiatrist hold the most authority and power in society. Sharing someone else's phobia is a federal offense, and while all people are protected under law while experiencing the effects of 'The Lowes', it is also difficult to enforce said laws. As such, it is sadly common that careless people may vanish without a trace, never to be seen again.
