Both wife and husband shrinking and getting abused by another “tiny” is certainly different... From what we know, Hazel was willing to let her husband get the short stick for her sake (don’t know how the daughter stand on the matter), so I am interested to see how she will cope with the situation, specially because they now have a master (Kathy) to please to avoid unpleasant situations.
As you can see, I don’t like Hazel attitude. She seems bossy and the kind of person that would sacrifice just about anyone to get what she wants, specially if it meant turning back to normal size or avoiding pain. If she was bigger, I am sure Alex wouldn’t enjoy the experince of being in her hands.
About Kathy, it is implied she is going to be caried by someone else. I presume it’s going to be another Family, maybe she ends up as a pet for someone’s daughter or son. This offers many possibilities for unaware scenarios since Hazel and Alex are being smuggled.

I was interested to read your assessment of Hazel's character. While I haven't had much opportunity to show this yet, Hazel is driven by overwhelming concern for her daughter.
Hazel's justification for letting Alex take the bullet is something I'd like to explore more later, but there's no harm in letting you know what my own thoughts were when writing the first chapter. In frank terms, Hazel believes that she is better equipped to care for their daughter than Alex is. As you've already pointed out, she is a prideful character who doesn't usually take much shit, and in this instance, there was no way she was prepared to let go of her position as Melissa's primary caretaker.
It's interesting to imagine how similar Hazel would be to Kathy were the roles reversed. Personally, I think she would be equally bossy, but maybe a bit more moderate in her approach.
