Have you considered focusing on single character's point-of-view, either the giant or the tiny?  It might give you more time to develop the emotional and sensory experiences if you're not switching back and forth.  Just an idea.

Very hot at the end, with Sammy clenching her thighs together and bucking her pelvis into the air.  Perhaps someday a tiny spelunker will survive...

Like I said before, you can get crushed by feet endlessly but when you're suffocated to death and literally viced to mush you won't survive, maybe if I do playful 'tiny preserving' stuff I will.
