Title: Chapter 4: God Brad
My opinions on each god:
(Personally, I really like how each god is not who they initially seem)
- Melissa initially looked the most stable god, but she might actually be the biggest control freak of the bunch, and will thus likely not accept any changes in the status quo where she is on top;
- Hailee is the one I just can't figure out. On one end, she is clearly controlling like Melissa, but she is also aware of her faults and seeing a psychiatrist. For now, I'm guessing that she is just possessive and cannot handle someone else taking what's "hers";
- Alexandra, I think, is clearly just high on getting worshipped, be it out of devotion or fear. However, her interactions with Emma and Brad do reveal that there is more to her;
- Brad is probably the most relatable of the bunch and thus probably the one we are gonna spend the most time with.
MY PREDICTIONS:
With the title being "Divinity Lost", I'm guessing that Brad will gradually lose his godhood as he lives a mortal life and this will create a power vacuum between the remaining goddesses as they vie to obtain the souls of Brad's former worshippers.
Since Alexandra is the one whom Brad will be worshipping, I'm guessing that she will (accidentally) absorb his powers, immediately giving her a leg up on the others.
This will piss off Melissia, who will no longer be the top goddess, prompting her to increase her followers.
In turn, this will upset Hailee at Melissia "stealing" her worshippers.
And so, the power struggle is on!
For now, I think Brad will just make an excuse and leave the gym before Camilia finds out his secret and they will stay in contact. Of course, this will inevitably create a future conflict with Alexandra once the goddess learns about her. And Brad will be unable to stop her physically since she absorbed his powers.
I also hope to see Emma again and she will have grown interested in Alexandra to the point of using her journalistic skills to find out more about her past, since she is the only god whose background we have yet to explore.
So yeah!
Those are my opinions on each god and where I believe the story is going.
Please let me know what you think...
Author's Response: Oh wow; now that’s a comment!
I wonder if it’s too early to ask people which god they like, when we’ve only seen episodic, slice-of-life type scenes with them. The lore and their ascension history would put into context each god’s character. But I purposely dove into the story this way, because I love it when stories unfold over time instead of just telling everything upfront. So, I’m sorry if the characters don’t make a whole lot of sense or seem too capricious.
The title “Divinity Lost” serves two purposes: one, it’s an homage to the epic poem “Paradise Lost” which is about Lucifer leading a rebellion against god and being sent to hell for it; two, it alludes to the history of how these gods became gods and how their power ‘may’ be fleeting. Again, I haven’t told the entire story upfront, and a lot of the backstory is purposefully a mystery.
Your predictions are awesome. I love ‘em. I’d say you’re close about Camilla and Emma. They’ll come back and create a lot of drama between the gods. Camilla will cause a rift between the gods, and Emma will serve to open Alexandra. It’s gonna be fun exploring all of them.
Awesome comment. I’m grateful you took the time to write it. I hope you enjoy the future chapters!
