Excellent start. This can only not end well.

Author's Response:

Probably a very fair prediction...

Heartpulsing chapter.

Ian has alpha sized balls to stand up for himself and his relationship like that. If Britney does anything to him I hope the Omega that takes care of her will be Jenna.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing. And I'm sure Jenna would be all over this situation if she found out about it.

While it's sad it had to take a brush with near death for Britney and Ian to come to some sort of head it's good they got out of there alive. I wonder if this Omega is someone we know or just a random Omega that was at the right place at the right time. Awesome chapter.

Author's Response:

This isn't an Omega we know, though she'll be making more appearances in future stories.

Summary:

Starting near the end of Act 1, Act 2.5 tells the story of Gabriella and Alice as they come to question their loyalities to the Society. The Swords' corruption is thrust into their faces and their long suspicions are proven true. But with one of them crippled in a way neither could ever imagine, and with a revelation that casts suspicion on everyone, can they survive only by trusting themselves?

Note: Read Act 2 first as spoilers await otherwise.

Nice to see this updated.

The next chapters will be violent? ASH is more violent than not lol

Author's Response:

Yeah but these upcoming ones will be full of violence. And its not THAT violent...sometimes...

Gabby actually succeeding in seducing the soldiers amused me since I personally don't see her having an overall attractive figure. She's cool and all but she also has more testosterone than most of the entire cast.

Author's Response:

Compared to some of the other girls, she isn't that attractive. About average, unless you are into muscle girls. The reason she was able to seduce them was, partly, because their a bunch of undisciplined rabble that would have been distraced by anything with boobs. I was trying to make it obvious that the "guards" are anything but prepared or combat ready. I mean, they are mostly just gang members or murderers.

I don't really care for Gabriel as a character. She feels too much like a man with boobs. I think she needs more vulnerable moments where she isn’t G.I Jane. I hope we get back to the main plot soon but I will say these chapters provided some good character development for Alice at least since all she was before this was the 'stoic analytical girl'

The Elves were pretty cool and at least Holland died a hero.

While Matilda was a straight up monster I wonder if she was just a morally corrupt person in general or her environment made her that way. Not to mention since she was abusing drugs that dulled pain perhaps that had a factor into her overall behavior. Not trying to defend her, just curious.

Author's Response:

I am going to guess you mean Gabby feels too much like a characture and not that a woman HAS to have vulnerable moments to be a woman. Assuming I am right, I have a plan, don't worry. In fact, we have seen something VERY important to her backstory, just it hasn't... hit so to speak. 2.5 was more about developing the Elves and Alice, not Gabby, but Act 3 will have a lot more focus on her as a character.

As for Matilda, I'm kinda leaving that a bit of a blank space on purpose. If stuff winds up not working out like I think I might go back and explain more about her.

Summary:

A celebration of progress turns disastrous when extremists invade and take thousands of three-inch-tall hostages. With the lives of a generation hanging in the balance, the unlikely team of a tiny anxious teen and a disgruntled female ex-con may be the only hope to avert utter catastrophe.

One hundred thousand beta's and a unhinged Alma Warren? I morbidly wonder how many beta's are going to be alive by the end of this story.

Author's Response:

You make me sound so cruel!  ^_^

Good chapter!

Unfortunately an alpha’s hand is mightier than a beta.

I got to say this is a big blow to Aegis’ perceived power if a small number of terrorists can easily take over a building with 99,000 betas inside. That Alice character, either she is a genius or used to work with Aegis at some point to know how to lock out their systems.

Another issue, this time related to the stability of the plot is Kayla. She’s stated to have godlike power; she is capable of reading minds, and manipulating size on a grand scale. What is stopping her from using her powers to easily foil these terrorists?

I’m also wondering what the fallout to this is going to be. I doubt these terrorists realize this could potentially be the catalyst to giving beta’s even more rights or making Aegis more militant in how the protect betas and prosecute alphas.

Author's Response:

Thanks! These are all good points you raise, and the story will address them in time.

I kind of agree with Pkong in this case. What the Aegis forces did was incredibly reckless and will only get more beta's killed. A loose cannon like Jenna in a hostage crisis is asking for trouble.

Author's Response:

There definitely were a lot of risks involved no matter what they did. And we will see Jenna having to face up to her choice later on.

Heh this chapter should be called convenience instead of trust. Taylor had no issue holding a bunch of beta kids ransom so even if she isn't crazy like her ex associates she is still a poor exemplar of a human being. I hope Ben keeps that in mind.

Author's Response:

Don't worry. Ben's just listening to the logic of her words right now; he's by no means buddy-buddy with Taylor at this point.

Kayla off in the cosmos, eh?

All I could think about at that moment was

“In the ether doing, like…”

Good chapter but it just left me with just more questions.

Like…what is the alpha government response to this is or the local government of whatever city they are in? Let Aegis handle everything? Do local enforcement defer to Aegis in all cases involving betas? I mean it would be a great show of unity if the alpha government and Aegis worked to together to stop the biggest domestic terrorist event they’ve probably had in a long time.

To be honest the Omega series is strong on characters and not so much on world building and that’s fine since every Omega story up until now have been really self-contained stories but this story has a lot more going on and we only have a really limited pov. I hope we get to see more of how the Omega world works in this story.

Author's Response:

Aegis is basically in charge of larger-scale criminal justice issues. In this case, where it's essentially terrorism, there isn't much the Alpha authorities would be able to offer. Though certainly there are people of all classes working together within Aegis.

The scope won't broaden significantly from where it is now (I prefer to leave those wider viewpoints to Ackbar to show in his own universe), but we will see more of the inner workings of Aegis in future chapters.

Author's Response:

Not dead, just in a long coma.

So that was Alice's reason for joining a bunch of mass murderers? I don't know if that's worse than the killers she's hook up with or just really really pathetic.

The Omega universe seems to be what happens when you take a world based on those standardfare 3D collages from Emma, SorenZer0, jamesmanson0, or Redfiredog, and then decide to add back law and order through the form of even bigger giantesses.

I'm kind of more interested in what Aegis does after this is resolved since it's obvious Kayla is going to make their lives a living hell once she comes back. I'm kind of surprised Kayla's status as a goddess isn't known among the population since an event had to have happened that made the Omega's the dominant class of the world. No nation would've sat idly back and let them take control.

Aegis is already close to crossing the authortorian line now but will this make them go over the edge?

Author's Response:

It wasn't necessarily a whole reason; more like a tipping point. Alice is just someone who was already looking for excuses.

Kayla's difference and her abilities as an Omega aren't publicly known. There will be more explanation for that in future stuff from Ackbar.

Melody had a serious case of the "fire" there assuming Ackbar didn't drop that concept.

First time we get confirmation how durable Omega's are.

And that confirmation being: veeery durable.

Okay ending.

I ended up liking this story less than I thought I would, though.

The plot was alright. I liked that despite the strength of the Omegas they can be outsmarted and that the Beta's and Alpha's they protect are also their weakness. Even if Kayla's mere presence in the universe undermines this. If she wasn't out in space then this entire plot would be done by chapter 2.

I think Ben should've died at the end instead of being miraculously saved by Melody. Suddenly challenging the terrorists just as Ben came out of the roof was simply way too convenient. It made his would be sacrifice not as good.

There was some eye rolly stuff like the super obvious not-fox news conservative media station pestering the Omegas. It wouldn't have been so bad if that wasn't the only outsider viewpoint on the hostage situation.

Overall it wasn't better than Inheritance which dealt with the flaws of the Aegis system and why Alphas wouldn't trust Omegas.

Author's Response:

I'm sorry you weren't as big a fan of this one. Ackbar doesn't want too much on this divulged yet, so all I can say for now is that it wasn't convenience that caused the challenge to the terrorists. Not really sure what to say about the news station; personal preference, I suppose. There probably are other outsider viewpoints, but those happened to be the ones hanging out around the building.

In many ways, I enjoyed writing Inheritance more than this one, but I wanted to try writing something in the Omegaverse that utilized a much grander scale. I appreciate your feedback on this one.

While I don't know a lot about Ancient Japanese and Chinese culture, the unique flair this giga story has continues to make it one of the better ones on the site.

Author's Response:

One thing I know about at least their ancient mythology was that they have some weird demons. One of the strangest I came across was the Bakezori, which literally means 'ghost-sandal'.

A description reads: "The Bakezōri is described as a wandering sandal with two arms and two legs, but only one eye." Yeah... after reading that the sky pretty much becomes the limit when it comes to demons.
