"The small problem"
YES! I thought to myself, as I was heading back to my locker now to talk to my friend Kim. I finally got Ashley to agree to go on a date with me. I just had to IM her tonight so we could work out a place and time. Today was gonna be awesome, and I normally dont think positive about any day. Still, I couldnt see anything that could go wrong today.
"So..." Kim asked me "Did you ask her?"
"Yep" I replied "And she said YES!"
"Good job" Kim smiled, giving me a pat on the back.
So, the day was pretty normal from there... until lunch that is.
The soda machine outside the cafeteria was out of Coke and Pepsi... in fact it was out of everything except for this soda in a purple can. It was some weird stuff I had never heard of before, called: ALOC KNIRHS... I wasnt even sure how to pronounce it. It mustve been a foreign soda... maybe ALOC KNIRHS is another language's way of saying 'Soda' or something.
So anyway, I got a can of it and sat down for a drink. The soda tasted really weird, and it almost burned my mouth... mustve been a Mexican soda or something, I dont know... cuz afterwards I felt really queasy, like I was getting heartburn or something. I had to get out of the caf fast before I even had a chance to talk to anyone. I went to the door to get out and it seemed like the doorknobs were higher than usual.
I got out and it seemed like EVERYTHING was higher than usual.... everyone looked taller and the walls seemed to be going up. I must be sicker than I thought... I said to myself but the longer this effect remained, the more I started to realize what was really happening....
I was SHRINKING!!
I couldnt have been more than a foot tall when I realized it.... and I was still shrinking.... getting smaller and smaller.... I wanted to say something, I wanted to scream up at the ever growing giants around me and get help but I couldn't... I was just so stiff... so frozen. Eventually I did move so I wasn't stepped on.... my shrinking finally stopped but I was so tiny now.... no more than the size of a bug. In fact, I looked over to see an ant and screamed, as it was just a little shorter than me, about the size of a big dog.
This made me scream, but I had no idea what to do now.
"Okay, okay...." I said out loud, but my voice was so much softer now, even I could barely hear it "I just have to stay calm... I... I... I have to do something...."
Just then, I saw more feet come my way. It was hopeless.... everyone and everything was too huge... would I be this tiny forever??
Then I look up to see Kim walking down the hall.
"Kim!!" I screamed "Help me, please!!"
She didnt even hear me, she kept walking. I tried running to keep up with her, but she was moving too fast.
"PLEASE HELP ME!!" I screamed as loud as I could, but it was useless.... she would never think to find me down here, on the floor, the size of a bug.
Then she seemed to slow down. I grabbed onto a loose shoelace on her shoe and screamed as she dragged me along the floor. I was getting rope burn but I had to hold on.... eventually she would have to stop walking and then maybe she'd see me then..... but it hurt so much to hold onto the shoe lace as I was dragged along the hard cold floor.
Finally she slowed down and went into cafeteria, slamming me into the door as she walked. I couldnt take much more of this.... in the meantime I was terrified to let go because I could be killed if I did.... what if someone stepped on me??
"Kim!!" I screamed "Kim, please help me!!"
Finally, she sat down, but she still didnt notice me as she talked with her friends at lunch. I then tried to get her attention by climbing up the chair next to her. It wasnt easy though as I tried shimmying up the thick steel chair leg. I finally made it to the top, but then I saw a huge shadow.... I was about to be sat on.
I had no time to think, I just jumped as far as I can and luckily landed on Kim's lap. Then, she looked down and finally noticed me.
"Oh my god..." she gasped "Bobby... is that you??"
"Yes..." I sighed "You have to help me..."
"Yeah, sure" she said "What can I do??"
"I dunno...." I sighed "Just....help me..."
She put her hands down in front of me and I backed off quickly... still kind of scared by her huge size.
"I wont hurt you...." she said "Get into my hand"
So I cautiously got myself up onto her hand and gasped as she started bringing her hands up now, startling me a bit.
"Careful..." I sighed, not having my balance completely.
"Oh, sorry..." she said, and brought me up close so she could see me better "I cant believe it.... you actually got shrunk...."
"I know..." I said "And it sucks, you have to help me get back to normal...."
"I can try...." she said.
"Wait, where's everyone else??" I asked.
"They went over there for a second, why??"
"I dont want anyone else to see me like this...." I said, "Quick, hide me..."
Kim put me in her pocket then and I sighed with relief. I wasnt big again, but I was safe... or safer, than I was before.
"I'll take you home with me, alright??" she asked, looking down at me. I nodded in agreement and let her take me home. There she placed me gently on a table.
"So how did this happen??" she asked.
"It was this weird soda..." I said "I drank it and it shrank me...."
"Thats weird" Kim said "But are you alright??"
"Well, Im tiny...." I said "But I guess Im alright...."
"Well, good... I wouldnt want you to get hurt" she said, leaving the room for a second "I'll be right back"
So I sighed with relief again. But I wasnt safe yet... I mean, how could I be turned back to normal?? What if there was no way and I stayed tiny forever??? Id have to live in an ant farm!!
Just then, I heard a loud clattering.... Kim's cat jumped up on the seat and hissed at me.... she thought I was a bug!!
"N-nice kitty...." I chuckled nervously.... the cat was about the size of a small mountain to me now as it got up on the table now. I ran as fast as I could, but I never was very athletic as the cat seemed much faster... and gigantic!! "Please dont hurt me!!"
I looked over the edge of the table to see a long way down.... I couldnt afford to jump... but this cat was going to maul me. She raised her claw and swiped at me. I dodged and ran under her legs and back the other way, but she ran ahead of me and cut me off.
"SOMEONE HELP ME!!" I screamed as the cat almost took my head off.
Then, Kim FINALLY came back in and saw what was happening.
"HEY!" she yelled "BAD KITTY!!"
To my relief, she took the giant cat away from me and I hadnt been hurt, although I was really worn out now. She looked down at me and sighed "Im sorry"
"Its alright...." I said, out of breath "I guess Im just a snack to anything bigger than me at this size...."
"Yeah, you are in danger here...." Kim said "Maybe I should keep you somewhere safe...."
"Like what??" I asked her.
"I dunno...." she said, searching her room for anything. "All I have is this old pickle jar...."
"Youve got to be kidding me..." I sighed.
"Im sorry" Kim said, extending her hand now. I climbed onto it and she slid me into the jar. Now I was surrounded with glass, with pretty much no way to get out. Kim put me on the shelf "Cmon....smile...."
"I dont wanna" I said, "Im being kept in a jar like a bug"
"Im sorry, its all I have...." Kim said "I promise if I find something better, Ill let you stay in that...."
"Whatever...." I said
"It cant be THAT bad...." Kim said
"Kim, Im the size of a BUG!!" I shouted, my voice echoing inside the glass jar "Im tiny, small, insignificant.... your CAT could step on me!!"
"Aw, dont talk like that...." Kim said, putting the jar in her lap and sitting down on her bed "I dont think of you as something insignificant, no matter how small you are...."
"Thanks... but that doesnt help and...ASHLEY!!"
"What?"
"ASHLEY, I have to I.M. Ashley!!" I said.
"Bobby...." Kim said "Youre the size of a bug and youre worried about IMing some chick??"
"YES!!" I shouted "I told her I'd IM her.... she'd kill me if I didnt...please, just let me out of this jar so I can talk to her..."
"Bobby, how are you gonna do that?? Youre tiny!!" Kim said, reminding me of the sad truth.
"You can stop calling me tiny...." I sighed.
"Im sorry, but you are...." she said "And how do you plan to IM someone at that size??"
"You could type for me!!" I said.
"What?"
"Just schedule some kind of date between us...." I said.
"I cant believe this is all you have on your mind...." Kim sighed.
"You know how hard it is for me to get dates with girls??" I asked. "Its pretty damn hard!"
"Ok, ok" Kim said, taking me out of the jar now "I'll help you out...."
She took me over to the computer and put me down next to the keyboard. She signed onto my AIM account and sure enough Ashley was on.
"Ok...." she said, glancing down at me on the table "What do you want me to say??"
"Hmmm..." I said, thinking to myself now "I dunno, just be like 'Hey, whats up?'"
"Ok..." Kim said, typing to Ashley now. "Uh.... she says she wants to get together tommorow.... what should I say??"
"Uh... uh... I dunno..." I said nervously "Uh... ask her if any other day is good for her..."
"She said no" Kim said "She's going on vacation next week, and she's busy every other day until next month"
"Oh fine," I sighed "Tell her, I'll meet her tommorow!"
"What, Bobby...you...."
"TELL HER!!" I yelled.
"Are you sure, youre..."
"DONT EVEN SAY TINY!!" I screamed, getting frustrated now.
So, I had her type the response to Ashley, although I myself had no idea what to do either.... I WAS tiny, whether I was going to admit it to myself or not, and as such, I had many disadvantages to face. For one, how do you go on a date when youre only an inch or so tall?
"So..." Kim said, after talking to Ashley for me "Could you possibly tell me HOW you plan for this to work out??"
"Well.... uh...aw...I dunno...." I said at last. I hadnt been thinking before.... maybe my brain had shrunk too.
"Aw, dont worry, we'll think of something...." Kim said "I'll be back in a sec, Im gonna go get a drink...."
So, she left me on the table near the computer, which left me to thinking, how was I gonna meet some girl at my size?? How could I do ANYTHING at my size??
Just then, I heard Kim's cat growl.
"Dont even think about it" I said, and got it to turn away.
Just then, Kim came back, holding a familiar looking purple can in her hand.
"I got some of this new soda, you want some??" she asked "Its something my dad just bought, something called ALOC KNRIHS.... must be foreign..."
"NO!!!" I screamed up to her, as she was opening the can "Dont drink that!!"
"Why not?" she said, putting the can down, just beside me.
"Thats the soda I drank that made me shrink!!" I said.
"Oh, good thing I didnt have any then" she said, "Thanks"
She went to put the soda away when she accidetentally tipped it over. I tried to run but it was useless and the soda spilled all over me.
"Ack! Are you alright??" Kim asked
"Im wet... but I guess Im alright...." I said, "You got a wash cloth??"
Kim wiped me off, and I did feel fine, for a while.... Kim put me in the jar that night and fell asleep. I decided to do the same but I had a lot of things on my mind, being the size of a bug and all.
Eventually I fell asleep, but it wasn't a good sleep. When I woke up, something shocking had happened!!
I seemed to have shrunk MORE!!
Then I noticed Kim waking up too. She went over to the jar and started panicking.
"BOBBY??" she asked "Where are you?? Where'd you go??"
"Im right here!!" I screamed, but I was barely audible as she now tipped the jar over to find me. I screamed again and fell out right in front of her but she must not have been able to see me, I was so small now....
The soda! The soda spilling on me last night shrunk me more! It wasnt as bad as last time, but I had shrunk enough so that I was only a fraction of an inch high.
"Bobby, if you can hear me, say SOMETHING!!" Kim said, looking everywhere for me, almost squishing me with her hands.
"Im right here!!" I screamed as loud as I could but it was pretty much useless. I was less than the size of a bug now.... in fact, I felt a very creepy feeling just then and turned around to see....
A GIANT SPIDER!!
"Oh my f--"
The spider tried to step on me and I ran as fast as I could. Even though spiders arent too fast, when youre less than half their size, it sure seems they are.
"Someone help me!!" I screamed again, but it was useless. The huge creature had been trying to shoot me with web now. It roped a strand of webbing around me now and was trying to pull me towards it's fangs. I couldnt believe it... I was small enough to be spider food.
With my heart racing now, I try desperately to get away from the spider, but I cant... its too strong and it was surely going to win eventually.
Just then there was massive earthquake and a loud squish. I gasped as Kim had squished the spider, but she still didnt see me down here, and I was next.
With the spider gone, I was able to get away easily, avoiding Kim's giant foot, but I was still covered in web.
I went off into the corner to get the sticky crap off me, but then I heard a low growl. I turned around and saw... Kim's cat again...
"Uh...hi...." I chuckled nervously. I was no match for the cat now, it was HUGE.... and suddenly started sniffing me. Then there was another growl, that sent me running. "This isnt my day...."
As I ran I saw Kim again but there was no point in anything. She did notice her cat sprinting down the hall though and probably figured something was up. Even so, I was just a speck on her carpet... she'd probably just think I was a dust ball if she even saw me....
I then ran into a room where the door was slightly open, but not wide enough for the cat. I slipped through the crack and sighed with relief, but then the cat ran into the door too, and ended up shutting it.
"Oh great...." I sighed "Im locked in basically, there's no way I can reach the door...."
It looked like this was gonna be it, I was locked in Kim's closet, smaller than a bug.... there had to be SOME way out.... but how? I could barely be seen or heard....I was too small....or maybe not... maybe I was the perfect size for this.... I noticed there was very thin space where the door met the floor. It was too small for any bug to get through but since I was tiny....
Whew! I made it out again, which may or may not be a good thing. I look around for anyone or anything but see nothing. Luckily Kim's cat had fallen asleep so I was safe from that, but who knows what else could happen??
Just then, I heard the door open to Kim's house, and peeking down the staircase, I could hear a familiar voice.
"Why did you want me to come over, again??"
It was ASHLEY!! She had invited Ashley over?? What good would that do any of us? I was TINY!
"Uh... well... I know youre not gonna believe me....." Kim began "But uh... Bobby kinda got into a little accident...."
"Oh no, is he okay?" she asked.
"Uh....yes and no...." Kim said.
"What do you mean??" Ashley asked.
"Well, he's alive.... I hope.... he's just kinda.... smaller...." Kim said.
"Youre serious...." Ashley said, rolling her eyes. She didnt believe her, and I couldnt blame her... I never thought this could happen to me either.
"Look, I know its not the most believable story" Kim said "But youve GOT to believe me... I invited you over because I think he mightve shrunk even MORE and I cant find him.... I need your help..."
"Ok, ok" Ashley chuckled, taking out a magnifying glass she happened to have with her "I'll play along and help you...."
"A magnifying glass!!" Kim exclaimed, taking it from Ashley quickly and heading upstairs "Excellent, let's look over here!"
"Whatever you say...." Ashley said, following her up the steps, "But this still doesn't seem possible..."
"Dont you think I know that??" Kim said, kneeling down and putting the magnifying glass to the ground "Just be careful where you step...."
"Oh right" Ashley chuckled "I wouldnt want to step on him or anything...."
"Im telling you, he's down here, somewhere..." Kim sighed "He was shrunk.... you'll see...."
I ran as fast as I could to where the magnifying glass was... it was my only hope of being found, let alone unshrunk. I ran under it and finally Kim spotted me.
"BOBBY!!" she exclaimed "Youre alive!!"
"I dont see any... oh my god...." Ashley gasped, as Kim picked me up off the floor "....he really DID shrink...."
"Uh...hey" I shouted up to Ashley "Wh-whats up??"
Ashley looked down at me and gasped "W-what happened??"
"Its a long story...." I sighed, "But what happened is I drank some kind of shrinking soda called ALOC KNIRHS and this is what happened to me..."
"Oh..." she said, now feeling bad that she didnt believe Kim before. "Are... are you alright....?"
"As alright as someone my size could be...." I sighed.
"Can, can I hold him for a sec??" Ashley asked. Kim nodded and put me in her hands. I felt comfortable there, but I was still nervous to be held.... the person who was holding basically could do whatever they wanted... they could end my life in a second if they wanted to. "So... uh... how you doing??"
"Im...Im good" I said, trying to maintain as average a conversation as one could "You... uh... still wanna go on our date??"
"I think we should unshrink you first..." she chuckled "Although Im glad youre excited about it..."
"Yeah, good point" I sighed "But how do we unshrink me??"
"Surely, this soda..." Kim said, picking up the can "Must have a factory with an address...."
So, Kim wrote down the address to the ALOC KNIRHS company factory which was convienently close by.
So, we went down there, with me in Ashley's pocket. Who knows? Maybe this factory would have the answers.... it was hard to get into though.... although eventually we finally did.
"This place is HUGE!!" Ashley said, looking around the factory full of steel and machinery everywhere... if there was an antidote anywhere here, it would be almost impossible to find. We were looking around when this security guy stopped us.
"No entering the main floor without clearance" he said, shoving Kim and Ashley back.
"But this is an emergency!!" Kim said.
"This is a class 4 restricted zone!!" the man said, and slammed a gate in front of us. Now there was no way to get through....
"Ok, dont worry" Kim said "We'll think of SOMETHING!!"
"What can we do?" Ashley asked.
"Wait" I said, noticing something. Ashley took me out of her pocket now and I took a look at an air vent on the floor. "I could fit through that.... it probably goes to the next room and I could unlock the gate??"
"Are you sure about that??" Ashley asked me "Its kind of a big risk..."
"Yeah, well everything is big when youre my size..." I said to her "Just put me down on the floor and I'll take care of the rest...."
Now, of course I had no idea what I was doing, but oh well, I only had one shot of not being small anymore and this factory was it. So I slipped in through the grates of the airvents and took a look around. Every which way was just darkness and steel walls.
Still, I decided to delve deeper into the depths of the vents.
"Im starting to think this was a bad idea..." Ashley sighed "Letting him go in there..."
"I agree...." Kim sighed.
In the meantime, I clattered around in the vents and saw a light. I jumped out through another grate and was in another room. Finally, I had found another situation where my tiny size came in handy as nobody saw me sneak over to the control panel.
I hit some buttons and somehow opened the gate for the 2 girls outside. They came in and Ashley came over to pick me up.
"Hold on" I said, hitting another button "This one should open the door up ahead...."
Oh crap, I was wrong.... just then I heard an ominous whirring. I turned around quickly but wasnt fast enough to avoid a giant claw from grabbing me by the back of the shirt.
Ashley and Kim tried to save me but couldnt as the claw was taking me through the factory. Kim and Ashley followed from down below but where I was going wasnt pleasant....
"That claw is going to drop him in that vat of shrinking soda!!" Ashley exclaimed.
"But if that happens, he'll be shrunk to nothing....!!" Kim screamed ansd went over to the control panel, hitting buttons.
"Be careful, Kim!!" Ashley said.
In the meantime, I struggled to break free but the claw was too strong and I was way too small and weak now. Suddenly the claw released me and I fell into a bag of flour.
"Bobby!! Are you alright??" Kim asked, gently pulling me out of the flour.
"Ugh..." I sighed, spitting out the flour that got in my mouth "Im fine.... for now..."
"STOP RIGHT THERE!!" a stern voice shouted. We all turned around to see more security personell. They put handcuffs on Ashley and Kim. "YOURE IN BIG TROUBLE, LADIES"
"Wait, you have to believe us!" Ashley said "Someone got shrunk drinking one of your sodas... show him, Kim!"
Kim showed the man me in her hand, and he instantly released us.
"Um... go up to the main offices right away" the man said, opening all the gates for us to get through. "The CEO will want a word with you...."
Later....
"So you see...." the CEO said "The soda you drank was actually a new chemical the military was to use as a new strategy of war..."
"Wait, so this is actually a military installation??" Ashley asked.
"Well its a soda company/military installation...." the man said "See, what mustve happened is when we were sending soda elsewhere, we accidentally packed a shrinking soda..."
"But what use is a shrinking soda?" Kim asked.
"It was going to be used so people could go undercover and give their enemies the soda...." the man explained.
"So there IS an antidote right?" I asked.
"Certainly" the man replied "We simply keep our enemies shrunk until they give us the information we need... go into the next room for the antidote..."
So, I was unshrunk and met Ashley and Kim outside.
"Yknow, Bobby" Ashley said "You were kinda cute as the size of a bug, but I like you much better like this"
She then kissed me on the cheek and I smiled.
Looked like everything had worked out now.
