Alone Together

by

Seeguy/Shade

Both women sat down at their respective computers in their respective homes in their respective current universes. They each opened the software that enabled their chat session. The window opened on their respective screens. The chat-box was a plain white chat field set against a plain gray frame that gave a beveled appearance. Each typed in the appropriate commands and numbers to reach the other and secure their connection against prying eyes in or out of either universe. Each took a little breath and clicked the ‘start chat’ on their respective ends of the connection. Each felt their respective tension before they began typing.

Nemesis: Hi

Selene: Hey

They had sent their messages almost simultaneously.

Nemesis: Any lag on your end?

Selene: Doesn’t look like it. You?

Nemesis: It’s coming in fine.

Selene: Good

They waited, each feeling the standard awkwardness as one of these sessions started, despite how long they’d known of each other. Each woman squirmed in her seat slightly. Selene took the initiative.

Selene: Guess I’ll get started.

Any updates on your end?

Nemesis: Not really. The bloke and I are still taking our time here. Making day-trips or spending a weekend bumming around the other places in this cluster. We think it’ll probably be another month at least before we pop the whole thing and blow.

Selene: Cool

I’m just about done at my place. I’ve seen the sights, mapped out an itinerary of sorts. Probably bounce sometime next week. Maybe come back around in a few hundred of their years and see if they’re still talking about me

Nemesis: I’ve done that a few times, more to see how they rebuild than what they think of me.

Anyway, I’ll make a note to avoid it in the short term future.

Selene: Ty

Nemesis: Any good landmarks or other points of interest? I could always land on a parallel if you think its REALLY good.

Selene: Don’t know if it has any parallels. I think there might be a near match somewhere over on the other side of the hub. That’s what I sensed when I got here anyway

There are some megalopolises in the Western hemisphere. The Eastern is mostly a bunch of island chains, no full continents over there...

But lots of little navies

Nemesis couldn’t help smiling on her end.

Nemesis: You know how I feel about ships *smirk*

Selene: lol, I know babe

I’ll have to try some of the things you were telling me about before

Nemesis: Just something so nice about having so many helpless little toys all trapped in one big container. They think their ship is so impressive, and then I come along.

Selene: Mmmmmmm

sounds lovely

I have to try that thing you told me about with the big battleships

Nemesis: The wringer?

Selene: Yeah

Tell, me again, pleeeease!!

Nemesis: Since you asked so politely. I pick up the ship with one hand on each end, take a second to enjoy all the chaos and screaming of the crew, then I grip hard and twist it between my hands like wringing out a face cloth except instead of bathwater, it’s the poor crew’s mashed bodies and blood that comes leaking out.

Selene: That’s like a washcloth, right?

Nemesis: That’s it

Selene: That’s so nasty. I love it. You have such a good imagination for brutality.

Nemesis: Wish I could take credit for it, but the bloke came up with that one.

Selene: Wish I could meet someone like that. I met a guy here who seemed promising, but I found out he was cheating on me with someone at his work. I plan to wait until the two of us are out somewhere, confront him with it, and that’s when showtime starts

Probably grind him into paste clenching him in my fist

Nemesis: A fitting end.

Selene: I really thought I was going to get to bring this one along with me

I wanted to have a turn being small for a change while my big hunky boyfriend wrecks up the place

Nemesis: I could never stand that, but to each their own

Selene: I’ll try to find someone power hungry enough at my next stop, give him a little taste of what I’ve got and watch him go nuts before I go mile high and stub him out with my toe

But it would be so much nicer if it was my own lover who was smashing everything up

It’ll still be fun wandering around at little folks size in the midst of the destruction and carnage AND knowing I’m secretly responsible for it

Nemesis: I guess I just like my fun to be a little more direct.

I’m the big bad monster smashing up everything and everyone.

They’re the poor innocent little people having their lives upended and ripped apart for my enjoyment.

And, of course, no one ever gets to be bigger than me.

Selene: You know I respect that.

Of course I enjoy all that stuff. I just like my little games too.

Nemesis: Any good skyscrapers over there?

Selene: A few

The city I’ve been staying in has a big cylindrical one nearly 2000ft/600m. Big commercial property with some residential sections too. It’s full of thousands of people everyday.

I’ll give you one guess where that thing is going

Nemesis: I’d do the same thing, maybe lube it up with some nice little victims first.

Selene: *smirk*

You and your gore

Nemesis: You like it too. What about that time you made that one pseudo-Greco-Roman style city a pledge that you would spare them total destruction if they filled a big tub with the blood of human sacrifices, so you could bath in it?

Selene: That was such a power trip, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped. It all got cold and chunky too fast. I got impatient and smashed their city anyway. Then a rival city sent guys over to praise me and slaughter any citizens who were left sheltering in the rubble

That pissed me off so bad, seeing those little twerps killing MY victims

I went over and smashed their city too, of course

Nemesis: Of course

Selene: But you. You’re a frickin’ artist

Those pics you sent me of the “finger paintings” you did on the buildings awhile back were so good. I tried it l last time, but mine ended up just being a bunch of smears

Nemesis: You could try it again. Practice makes perfect.

Your pathetic little ‘toyfriend’ could finally be some use to you.

Bet he’d make a great art supply.

Selene: LOL

He might just

The two women sat for a moment, not typing, each staring into their respective screens. Even across the vast stretches of the greater multiverse they felt the tension twisting inside each of themselves.

Selene: I had a weird idea the other night when I was thinking about what I’m about to do to this city, and this world. I was thinking about parallels, twiner worlds. There are actually a lot of them out there, but of course, you know that.

The idea is this; sometime in the future when our schedules permit it, we each go to a twin world, closest parallels we can find, really far apart if we can help it, we each go to the same parallel cities at the same time, then after checking in here, we do a kind of synchronized rampage. Obliterate the cities, torment as many tiny people as we want until we get bored, break both planets into rubble, and then outgrow both universes until we burst them apart, possibly at the exact same relitive cosmic omniversal moment, if we really time it right.

What do you think?

Nemesis thought for a long time before answering.

Selene started to regret the idea the moment she sent it.

Nemesis: idk

Selene: I thought it could be fun, but I understand if it’s too close to, you know, actually meeting in person.

Nemesis considered it carefully.

Nemesis: If we were to ever meet one of us would become normal, small. You know that. I hate even thinking about it to be honest. It crushes my sense of control. That’s the entire point of this system, so I only have to think about the fact that you exist every so often. This idea just makes me so uncomfortable. Even without that problem, I don’t like playing with other giant women; just the bloke. He’s more than enough for me,

Selene: I get it. Believe me.

I guess I thought maybe I’d thought of a loophole for us.

Nemesis: It was a good try. You’re very creative too, in your own way.

I think we’re doing well to just keeping far enough apart so as to not disrupt each others size and power; to not have to think about each other too much.

Selene: It’s a shame, but you’re probably right.

Nemesis: I’m always right.

I just can’t go for it.

The thought of you out there doing almost the same thing I’m doing at the same time is not for me, not fun. Gives me a negative feeling. Makes it harder for me to feel big.

And that makes it harder for me to be big.

And nothing is supposed to be harder for me. That’s the point of all this.

Selene: How I feel is how reality is, so I guess the same thing applies to me, when I think about it.

Makes me shiver and feel on edge.

Sorry, I promise I meant well.

Nemesis: If you want to share something, share a picture of your little cheater guy after you’ve had your way with him.

Selene: Will do

You can critique my art technique

Any big plans for the night?

Nemesis: Well, the bloke and I are going to one of the outlying universes in the cluster. No organisms. It’s a flawed development that will collapse on its own in a few billion years, but it’s got all kinds of spatial anomalies and exotic matter arrangements that we want to experiment with.

Selene: Sounds like a hot time

Hope you two have a good time

Nemesis: Don’t worry, it’s a relatively big reality out there, for people besides us anyway. I’m sure you’ll find someone that loves you so much they don’t give a shit that you kill trillions of people and destroy universes for fun. If it happened for me, it can happen for anyone.

Selene: I confess, I get envious about the two of you sometimes.

Nemesis: As you should.

Selene: I’m sure you’re right. I just need someone who’ll be a total sweetheart to me, but a horrible monster to everyone else.

Nemesis: Or just someone who seems acceptably corruptible by power and love. That’s what I got.

Selene: Anyway, I’ll check in when I make universe-fall at my next stop. No idea where it’s going to be yet, other than nowhere near you.

Nemesis: Sounds good. Don’t forget to massacre a few navies for me. TTFN

They each logged off on their respective sides.

Selene stood up and looked out her apartment window, gazing at the nighttime cityscape. It sparkled with thousands of lights; lights she would soon snuff out. She could easily make out the centerpiece of the scene, that oh so suggestive skyscraper. She felt something nice happening between her legs and was tempted to buck her schedule. Chatting with Nemesis could put her in these moods. The phone rang and she answered it. It was her so-called boyfriend, and he wanted to have a late lunch with her tomorrow afternoon, so they could “talk about some things”. She said that would be fine, ended the call, and licked her lips in anticipation. She was going to buck her schedule. She’d apologize to Nemesis about the inconvenience, but it had to be done.

Nemesis stood up and walked out of her home office. She crossed the little suburban house she was sharing with her husband. Warm afternoon light filtered through the windows. The carpet felt lovely and soft under her bare feet. She thought about other things that would feel lovely under her feet. It was a very tempting thought. If she bucked her schedule she could be the last living thing on the planet to enjoy that lovely sunlight. Thinking about it filled her with a greed for it, and she loved following her greed. Chatting with Selene could put her in these moods. She called out to her husband and he came to her side. She was ready to go, now. She knew that they had planned to play around a little still, but her blood was up and she needed destruction and carnage, now. He shrugged his shoulders and said “okay”. They started to grow right out of the house on the last warm sunny carefree afternoon anyone in that universe, besides her and him, would know. She’d apologize to Selene, but she wanted it too bad.

Nemesis lay in the warm morning sunlight feeling like a great monstrous dragon, curled up and content. Deep satisfaction filled her as she gazed out at the rubble they had made; the carnage; the chaos. She had directly crushed hundreds with her feet; her hands; her immense powerful body. The tacky red-brown ooze was smeared around on her stomach and face in, she hoped, threatening yet elegant designs. It was hard to tell. They’d smashed all the buildings with enough reflective surfaces to check. She looked over at her husband, towering over their wasteland. He smiled and gestured quietly. Nemesis smiled back. He’d found another emergency shelter.

Selene relished the sensation as her expanding body tore through the elegant dress she’d worn to the restaurant. Her expanding feet ripped through her shiny patent leather shoes, another sensation she always looked forward The best sensation by far was feeling her little, now ex, boyfriend clutched in her hand squirming and screaming in terror. Panicked noises from the other diners and staff scrambling around to escape were a close second. The little man begged and pleaded while Selene merely watched silently, smirking and wondering how she ever thought this little thing could be a worthy companion in her travels. As her feet, legs, and head exploded out the little building, she made sure he would be safe from the destruction. Looming high above the ruins of the structure, Selene paused in her growth. She enjoyed the breeze caressing her now colossal body, savoring the moment. She let him squirm for just a few seconds more. Then she started to squeeze.

As Nemesis scooped her little screaming toys out from their hidey-hole, looking forward to giving herself and her husband a fresh coat of “paint”, her thoughts drifted back to the chat with Selene.

As Selene felt the little man’s rib-cage pop, and warm liquid flow between her clenched fingers, her thoughts went back to the chat with Nemesis.

Each woman had a very similar thought. It went something like this:

We’re so alike in tastes and philosophy, so compatible in our attitudes and standards, and even so inspiring of each other in our respective imaginations and creativity.

We could...

They never could though. Even if they overcame the metaphysics of their situation, they each knew that the most important thing they had in common was that no matter where they were, they were the most powerful thing around. The biggest thing existing, physically or conceptually. In each other’s presence, they could only be equal or smaller. Neither could allow that.

They both knew that the moment they came together, they would become alone.
