Author's Chapter Notes:

Let me know what kind of people you'd like to see in this setting! It's a lot of fun to imagine how different people would be in this scenario, and to turn it into a short story~

The world was rife with overpopulation in the year 2300 AD. Cities were getting too big to manage, food and water shortages were commonplace, and everything seemed to just barely be hanging on by a thread. But then by the year 2400… all was better! The world’s population was reduced drastically down to only half a billion people from its enormous 30 billion, and large portions of the world were currently getting landscaped and revived as forest and farmland instead of dirty cities.

This was accomplished when one day, a team of scientists perfected shrinking technology. In a highly secured compound guarded by the full might of the united world government military, 36 tiny planets ranging from the size of an orange, to the size of a pea, orbit a specially crafted light-bulb that gives off the same kind of warmth and energy that the sun does. And each of those planets are protected by a self-sustaining, practically indestructible force field.

Each world had at least a billion people on it, and as needed, newly crafted tiny planets are added to the system. Each one has a theme ranging from oceanic, to forestland, to frozen tundra, and other biomes of all types. This is done to also preserve plants and animals in something similar to their natural habitats. Some even have cute designs to them, with continents in different shapes like hearts and stars, “huge” canyons and mountains, and other mega-structure type features not possible on a full sized earth.

The vast majority of people opted to move to these little worlds, as it was an excellent escape from the problems of the bigger earth. Instead of dealing with pollution and crumbling cities and having to be a part of the restoration process, they could move somewhere beautiful with clean air and plenty of space and room for a simple and comfortable life of prosperity. However, the remaining half a billion people on earth is still a lot of people, many of which still want to be able to visit their friends and family despite the size difference. So, with how full-proof the force fields of each planet is, they opened up a process to apply to visit, and every weekday they open up the room to visitors for a few hours: with the only real rules being that people must dress modestly, and must not be lewd; as people of all ages are living on the little worlds

On weekends, the room gets sealed off entirely, and the force fields of each planet get switched off. On those couple of days, people can take off in their tiny “spaceships” (with the assistance of megastructure launchers built at the planet's constructions), and travel between the planets in the solar system which, unlike real planets, are really not that far apart at all. The one different planet of the bunch is commonly called “New Vegas”. Unlike the others, in order to travel to that one you must be 18+. Because every Monday, it gets lent out! The pea sized world gets put into the hands of some attractive man or woman to do anything they wish with it, however lewd or silly or gross… whatever they feel like. It’s a resort planet filled with crystal blue oceans and beaches and resorts and islands, and serves as basically a planet-sized strip club to those who want that. New Vegas also has its barrier ever so slightly weakened, so that sounds from the outside are just a bit louder, and scents and humidity can get through within reason as to not upset the ecosystem of the world

Tiny solar system is connected to the full sized internet (with the exception of New Vegas when it’s not in the solar system room), but even so, people still like to have some semblance of direct contact with the people they care about. These few hours of visiting time every weekday can be chaotic for tiny solar system, but it’s something people have gotten used to over the years

One day, the door to tiny solar system opens, and a MILF named Amy walks in. Clearly upset about something, she walks directly towards the 9th planet from the “sun”. There were several planets in her way, but she pays them no mind. Not caring for them as she walks directly through them to get to the world her son resides on

A desert planet gets bumped by her purse, colliding with a cute flower charm and flung out of orbit. The planet floats in a semi-straight line due to its antigravity: feebly trying to orbit the fake sun, but the momentum given to it by Amy’s bag was far too much. It eventually rolls and comes to a stop partially buried in a sea of carpet fibers on the floor

Another world, more of a nature preserve forest planet with the most endangered species was lower in its orbit, and directly in the path of Amy's next step. It gets punted across the room by her tennis shoe, catapults through the air, crashes against the wall, and eventually comes to a stop near one of the ceiling tiles. The barrier kept it safe, but now it has a layer of grime on the side from being briefly pressed against her shoe with the kick

Yet another one, an agricultural planet where gigantic amounts of fully automated farmland produce food for the entire tiny solar system, finds itself on a collision course with her crotch. It rolls along the zipper of her shorts, and stays there for a moment with the wild momentum that her walking gives it. But shortly after the motion of her thighs frees it and leaves it with a wildly altered orbit… eventually destined to fall into the light-bulb (this too would be harmless to them, if a bit inconvenient making the sky hard to look at). The people of that world were a bit disoriented from the wildly moving sky, but fine nonetheless. With how chaotic visiting hours can be, most plan on taking that time off work anyways… with some preferring to stay indoors where thanks to the barrier, the chaos of what’s happening outside is barely noticeable. Their orbit getting messed up is of little concern, as after visiting hours, Emily, a young astrophysicist who has the privilege of working with tiny system and serving as their caretaker, comes around to clean off the world’s barriers and use some instruments to put them back where they should be in their orbits

And lastly, the big capital city planet, with its web-like network of cities and sparkling lights, and impressive world-spanning maglev train systems that allow for insanely fast transportation, gets bumped by Amy’s shirt-covered left breast. It rolls along the top of it for a second, and then Amy takes a step forward. The bouncing motion of her boob makes it fly upward, bounce against the ceiling, and drift slowly across the room towards a desk that normal people can sit down at. There was an unused coffee mug there next to a coffee machine that visitors can drink from, which by sheer coincidence the capital planet falls into. It rolls against the side of the mug until the friction of the acrylic against the barrier makes it come to a stop, leaving it resting near the bottom of the mug.

Finally, Amy reaches her prize, and pinches up the pine forested planet between her fingers. It’s 700 million inhabitants look to the sky, seeing her thumb and finger squeezing against their ever resilient barrier, and her upset and angry face looking down on them. Even knowing they were safe, it was hard not to be intimidated by the sight! She then opens her mount “Josh you call me RIGHT. NOW.” she demands, enunciating with a tap of her finger against the world’s barrier. The barrier does its job, reducing her taps to a mild atmospheric disturbance, and filtering her voice down to a reasonable indoor voice volume, but nonetheless everyone on the planet can hear it, including her son Josh.

“Oh god oh fuck oh shit…” he panics. He was currently in bed with his formerly long-distance girlfriend Kristie, who he had been going 5 years strong with. The two of them had just had sex an hour ago, and were enjoying a peaceful moment cuddling naked with each other and talking about life, when his Mom showed up. “You… you never told her? But you said you did!” Kristie says, rushing to the window and looking up at her lover’s mother. “She… she would never have approved! So I just---” Josh starts to say, when the light in the sky starts to vary wildly, as Amy gets impatient, and shakes the world. As if rattling it will make her son go faster.

JOSH!! CALL ME NOW!! I SWEAR TO GOD” the harsh tone of her voice still comes through just fine, but thankfully the volume doesn’t. On the internet, people are quick to pick up current events with news stories like:

* This just in, another upset mother confronts tiny son: likely shrunk without telling her

* Capital planet now in a mug, will Emily come through and pull it out before coffee pours down?

* Sunlight to nature preserve currently obscured by what appears to be soil. Mother likely to have stepped in dirt before visiting

* Watch this footage of a world LITERALLY punted into orbit

“Where’s my phone… WHERE IS IT” Josh says, as the still naked tiny couple run around their apartment frantically, searching high and low for wherever he left it. When Amy appeared to be at her limit, Kristie thankfully finds it having fallen between the couch cushions. She tosses it to Josh, who quickly dials his Mom who he’d been putting off for weeks. Her pop song ringtone can be heard by all for a few seconds, before she answers it. Standing still naked by the window, he looks up at his mother and sheepishly says “Umm… Hi Mom…”

HMPH! I can’t BELIEVE you did this Josh! You didn’t even come to say goodbye before doing this!! WHY?” She says, demanding answers from him. “M-mom please, calm down…” he winces as her fingertips against the sky turn a bit more white, squeezing their world a bit harder “CALM DOWN? You LEFT me!!!”

“N-no mom I didn’t leave you! I moved down here to be with Kristie… because I love her. And I was worried you’d try to talk me out of it. You always talk about how you hate when people take the easy way out and shrink to be down here...”. Amy’s expression immediately softens, and so does her grip on the planet. Realizing how tightly she was holding it, she then walks over to the desk, sits down, and releases the world so that it floats in front of her face when she sits down

On her way there, she unawarely trods on top of the planet that had been knocked to the floor. It sticks to the tread of her shoe for a few steps, being only marginally bigger than a small pebble that was stuck next to it, before being knocked free and falling back to the carpet. The desert world is greatly shrouded in darkness now, with the sun’s rays dimmed for much of the planet due to the grime left there by Amy's sneaker

Back on the desk the, with the way Amy had positioned it all they can see in the sky is the endless surface of the hardwood desk and a bit of Amy’s pink t-shirt. Amy lets out a sigh before opening her mouth to respond to her son’s heartfelt explanation “...oh josh... I don’t like it! I think it’s better to be independent and not literally a germ... But, Kristie is lovely. And if it really makes you happy, then I support your decision to be with her. I just wish you’d have said goodbye…”

Feeling incredibly guilty, he scratches the back of his head. With a reassuring side hug from Kristie as they both sit at the window looking up at what they can of her, he responds “I’m… I’m sorry Mom, and I love you. I promise I’ll call you more often! I was just afraid…”. Now understanding her son’s reasoning and feeling less abandoned, she more positively says “And I love you too Josh… I always have~Her smile beams down on their world, teeth the size of continents and eyes the size of planets.

“Hey Mom?”. “Yes dear?”. “We can only see the table with how you let go of us…”. Amy giggles a little, as she more gently scoops the planet up in her palm. She raises a finger, and taps the sky with her nail above a continent. “Haha, are you on this one?” Josh blushes and laughs a little, their sky nothing but the tan skin of her palm. “Haha, no Mom, not that one!” “Oh! How about this one!” “Noo, colder!”. The sky shifts about as she pokes at a few of them, until finding the one that her son is on. Her pink manicured nail tap taps against the sky, causing two rushes of gentle breeze from the distant shockwave in the sky. “You found us!~”

Amy then laughs a bit as she raises the world to her lips, and plants a kiss on the barrier just above his continent. Left behind is the imprint of her lipstick, giving her son the closest thing to a goodbye hug that she can manage. “M-mooom! That’s embarrassing!” his buddies text him, shooting him some friendly playfully bullying for his mom’s actions. “Shoulda given me a proper goodbye when you had the chance~” she laughs, looking down all smugly on the crumb of a landmass he now lives on

They spend the next ten minutes catching up on things, talking about Josh’s career and what he’s going to be attending college for on this world. And Josh then turns on the phone’s speaker so that Kristie can talk with his Mom as well. Soon enough though, Emily peeks into the room “Sorry ma’am, but time’s up” Amy looks over “Aww, already? Well.. alrighty then~”. She then takes her son’s world, and lifts it up to her mouth again “N-no mom wait!!”… she doesn’t listen, as she kisses the world several more times above his continent, leaving the landscape colored pink from the light filtering through her lipstick above it

Talk to you soon Josh and Kristie! Love you~” she says, to which they reply “A-ah… love you too Mom!” “Yeah we’ll have to talk more later! You’re a lot of fun Josh’s mom~”. “Haha~ bye dears!~”. “Bye!!”. The call ends, leaving their planet as nothing but a silent green, white, and blue orb with lipstick on it in her palm.

She pinches it between her fingers more considerately and gently this time, and hands it to Emily on her way out. “Aww cute~ Everything went well I assume?~” Emily giggles as she sees the kissed planet, and playfully nudges Amy’s arm. “Yes, very much so! Thank you so much for the opportunity, and I hope you have a lovely day~”. “Hehe~ you too ma’am~”

Amy walks out of the room, and Emily goes around cleaning up the mess a little. She fishes the capital planet out of the mug, grabs the trodded on desert planet off the carpet, and uses a grabber stick to pull down the nature planet that had got stuck near the ceiling. For a moment, all four of the worlds in her palm are held against one another like mere marbles, but not for long as she sets them on the desk, and wipes each of them off with a special cleaning cloth to get the grime off that was obliviously put there by Amy. Except for Josh’s world though. As the planet’s caretaker, she makes the executive decision to let the lipstick be for now (josh groaning at this and having to live with the embarrassment a bit longer), and roughly places the planets back where they should be in their orbits. At the end of the day they’d be placed more precisely back into place with special instruments, but now, when they’re liable to get messed up again in only a couple minutes by the next visitor, she just eyeballs it and puts them back by hand

Emily then walks to the door, and calls out “Next!~”
