Actually I was thinking of some obscure winged raiders that Superman fought once off in a Filmaton cartoon of the 1960s.

Ah, yes! "The Batman Of 3000 A.D." The first time I read that reprint, I immediately knew who Fura of Saturn was supposed to represent. And the symbolism behind his soldiers being robots was somewhat less than subtle, too. But, it was still a delight to read.
