Property of Omega Pi

Summary:

The sisters of Omega Pi have a little secret...

Seems like a typical sorority story. I think I'll pass it over.

Duggernaut

He has a new story then. I should read this.

As for the chapter itself, the scene at the beginning makes it more poignant, knowing that this guy who's going to be shrunk has parents who think it's the greatest thing ever that he's going to university.

Author's Response:

Thanks, I was hoping to put my own kind of spin on the familiar tale and I did like the scene in the beginning, but as the story unfolds...

And the wristbands are how the determine who's going to shrink, and who gets him. The secret is what the date entails.

Author's Response:

Bingo! All will be revealed :)

Personally, I like a slow build up with lots of character development. It makes the meat of the story that much better.

And growth at the stripper bar? Sounds interesting.

Author's Response:

My preference is also to flesh out the characters to enhance the story aspect of the tale.

Cam is gone, but not from Oliver's memory. Question is, do others know about Cam or is Oliver the only one?

This could be one of two things:

1) Reality has been altered, and Cam was never a normal student.

2) Reality has not been altered, and they simply took Cam's stuff to his new room, and they were very meticulous about it.

We also don't know if Cam is going to be in the sorority house full time, or if he'll be allowed to become normal sized and go to class.

There's also the question of Oliver's job. When he gets shrunk, will he be restored to work there or will he have to quit the job?

However, Oliver was presumably shrunk that night. Could it be that Cam is shrunk full time and Oliver will be shrunk occasionally?

Author's Response:

With the GTS content coming soon, readers will have a clearer picture of what is occuring. Well, at least that's the plan.

So, Oliver's mom is/was an Omega Pi, same with Cam's mom, now how's she taking this?

Author's Response:

Seems like Oliver's mom is struggling with the obligation to give up something, her son perhaps? :-O

“My little man all grown up and headed to university,” she said, voice quavering, slightly rounded but pretty face expressive and reflecting the heavy emotion in her heart as she looked at her only child.

There's more to her feelings there than she let on.

The Omega Pi oath is a sacred trust, a solemn promise that shall never be broken, shall never be compromised and shall endure long after each one of us as individuals have passed through the hallowed halls of academia. It is a lifelong pledge from one sister to another to uphold the values, virtues, and integrity of Omega Pi’s ideals and unwavering pursuits.

As a sisterhood, Omega Pi is greater than any single one of us. In the end we believe it is the little things that make all the difference.

At first, you think that the last sentence is the meaningful one, but the rest is turning out to be very important as well.

Author's Response:

Very astute, somebody's been paying attention.

@Duggernaut: I was actually asking about how Cam's mom felt about Cam's situation, though I can see how that wasn't clear.

Author's Response:

Apologies, Cam's mother has multiple children and has obviously confided in Sersei at some point about the legacy, gaining both an ally and confidant, Different story for Oliver's mom though.

Something to find out: Are all Omega Pis this good looking to begin with, or are they magically enhanced when they're initiated?

Author's Response:

Omega Pi is highly selective on who they allow into their sorority. An interesting notion though that part of their initiation might revolve around enhancement contributing to their devotion to the cause for fear of losing that boost. Very interesting. Maybe.

Is Samantha about to become another Jessica Atreides?

And how old is Vesper, if this has been going on for awhile?

Author's Response:

Jessica turned her back on the Bene Gesserit for the sake of the Kwisatz Haderach. It brings up and interesting thought about regressive latent abilities. Does Oliver possess some type of power? The next Maud Dib? Hmmm

Let's have a look at her claims:

There are two factions within our sisterhood, the larger and more powerful of the two are the traditionalists, those who wish to continue ritual harvesting as we have been doing. The other group are those who think the practice needs to be changed to protect not only our male offspring but others gathered for the harvest.

Seems plausible, but all we have for confirmation is Samantha's doubts, and that's just one person who could have had cold feet at the last minute.

Your mother Samantha belongs to the second group.

So Cerys knows about Samantha's cold feet. That could mean that she's telling the truth, or that the higher-ups know about Samantha's doubts.

Please Oliver, understand she did not want this for you, ever. I know what you’re thinking, if that was the case, why are you here then? There was no way she or the others seeking to bring about change could openly defy the ruling council of the sisterhood, they are just too powerful, too well engrained in positions of power everywhere. Where could she take you where you would not be found? Nowhere.

We've seen hints of this level of power, but just hints. It is plausible, though, if she's been telling the truth so far.

So in order to maintain the illusion of loyalty to the sisterhood, and more importantly to protect the movement, you needed to be subjected to the reaping. She asked me to lay claim to you because she knew I could get you away from here without suspicion. Unfortunately, I won only a second draw and Sersei established first rights to you.

This is good for Oliver. This is a fact that can be verified. If Deacon and/or Stan finds him, Oliver can tell them to confirm that with Samantha. Ask for her side of the story, without giving away the information that needs to be verified. If Samantha's account lines up with this, then Cerys is telling the truth. If not, she's lying.

Also, we know that Samantha has been going to "retreats". However, we don't konw how enthusiastic she was about them, or what she actually did there.

We have been able to abscond with one of the Weeping Stones and so far have been able to save two others in my three years here.

These facts haven't even been hinted at, but they're facts that can be confirmed or denied.

It’s up to you. If you think I’m lying, you don’t have to reveal yourself but I can guarantee Miss Frost will ferret you out, if Sersei doesn’t beat her to it. I think she is going to petition her grandmother for aid in about an hour or so. I can’t promise you restoration, but I can offer you a chance to survive this

There needed to be a plot development to end the last bit of running around, and this is it. Oliver is taking a risk if he trusts Cerys. He can't confirm her story until he finds Deacon or Stan, but if he hides from her, then he and Cam have to find a way out of the house by themselves. And if Frost or the grandmother use magic to find Oliver and Cam, they're fucked, literally and figuratively.

If you think I’m lying, you don’t have to reveal yourself but I can guarantee Miss Frost will ferret you out, if Sersei doesn’t beat her to it. I think she is going to petition her grandmother for aid in about an hour or so.

Is that Sersei's grandmother or Frost's grandmother?

@pixil8ed

changed

I missed that word, but it's definitely important. They're still not willing to give up their immortality and beauty. They think that a rapist who lets the victim live is a good person. In this way, they're deluding themselves into thinking that they've climbed out of the moral pit they dug themselves into, blinding themselves to the fact that they're still well below ground.

This assumes that Cerys is telling the truth, which is a risky assumption to make.

Prediction: Samantha went against the sisterhood for love, and Oliver was influenced by the magic.

Author's Response:

Very astute and very accurate

Samantha tried to run away with Charlie. What she completely against what the sisterhood was doing, or did she just make an exception for that one man?

Samantha went to swoons over the years. Did she really believe in what she was doing, or did the sisterhood scare her into submission?

The magic affected Oliver, perhaps making him to Omega Pi what Paul Atreides and Leto II were to the Bene Gesserit. However, there hasn't been any mentioned of latent supernormal abilities. So in what way could Oliver be different?

Author's Response:

You make a couple of very interesting assertions - yes he was in utero during a swoon, and you're right, we've not seen anything of power from him...
