@Jacksmith: Yeah, he'd have to have his face altered to get in with Tania. Now let's see where he goes next. My guess is that in the next memo he's going to be fired, and then he'll be fighting this on his own, and then...

Author's Response:

Well, you weren't that far off!

We've now seen a number of people request to speak off the record, so what we're reading is clearly not what will be submitted. Is it what Howard hopes to publish somewhere, or is he writing for the drawer?

@Carycomic: I'll be amused if Stargate is referenced, or if Wessex Daniel Jackson is mentioned (look him up).

Author's Response: Howard hopes someday to publish this as a means to help hurt the Shrink Act, but since he doesn't yet have enough research to do that, for now he's just building up material.

That chapter built up the tension nicely. This is going to have to be really bad to deliver now.

How old is Abraham? You mentioned that he's aged a bit, but how old he actually is would say alot about how stressful this is.

Author's Response: I'd put Abraham in his early/mid forties, the aging comment was to suggest he looks older than he actually is.

Damn, someone's getting bold. I bet a sharper reprimand is coming down the pipe. Would he have gotten more information by taking an approach with more praise, or by pressing her? And I can't wait to get the details of what goes on at home.

It's been a few weeks, so did he ever follow up on Shelby's tips?

Author's Response:

One is indeed coming down the pipe.  He gathered he wasn't going to get much from her, though he's not done snooping around this particular location for answers.

He's still following up on what he can with Shelby's tips; they actually provided the impetus for him to come here in the first place.

This is the best chapter so far. It's longer, and I always like longer. It also gives us a wide-ranging look into the wider problem. I expected bad things, but this introduces some things I wasn't expecting. In addition, I was hoping Shelby would return, and this is actually more than I had hoped for. You go Shelby. That's some good research you did there, and good thinking telling Howard about it. Now, some questions going forward: just how much of this report will Howard be able to release, and how much will he be able to do?

Author's Response:

Thanks very much.  Releasing it is going to be tough for Howard after these later chapters, but he's going to do whatever he can.

At this point, I'm instinctively assuming that a kind, reasonable interview subject is hiding something. However, Claire being Claire, and the introduction being what it is, this is an instance where it really will be as good as it sounds.

I think it's possible that there will be a few more nice people, but I expect some really nasty people by the end, and the author of Julia can write about a real piece of work.

@Ackbar: Stop being so mean to poor Jacksmith. Think of his feelings.

Author's Response:

There will definitely be a couple more nice people, though I've also got the nastiest case waiting in the wings for later. Thanks for reviewing.

The beginning was a bit dry, but it got really intriguing in the last third, when you hinted at the possibilities for stories. The bit about Carly was great, and of course you can't spoil Julia, but maybe later in the story...

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! There was a specific reason Julia wasn't mentioned here (I won't say if that's good or bad), though I will mention that this chapter contains a clue about how Jack and the others might be able to beat her. ;)

You're doing well with the style so far. This could get very interesting. You're going to have lots of opportunities to explore the moral and social issues of this technology.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to showing the other ways I'm exploring the challenges and consequences of the tech.

At first I thought, "Shouldn't he interview Dale alone" but then you acknowledged that issue quite well.

Author's Response:

Good catch! Definitely an intentional thing. Thanks for reviewing.

It's following the pattern I thought it would: it starts relatively innocent but slowly gets darker. Here I saw a stronger indication that the giantess is hiding something, with Shelby blurting out something she wasn't supposed to say. It's also good that you left open the possibility of Shelby calling Howard later.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! We're probably going to see Shelby appear in some context later on in the story.

@Moonpie: He said this to me, in response to my review of the introduction:

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! There was a specific reason Julia wasn't mentioned here (I won't say if that's good or bad), though I will mention that this chapter contains a clue about how Jack and the others might be able to beat her. ;)

Teehee...

I like the way this was handled. There were situations where we could have seen the stern "say nice things" looks in previous chapters, but instead we have two people who seem to have a great relationship. Even then, the end of the chapter made it more interesting by hinting that, even though they get along well, there's still something going on.

What's his sampling method? Are the subjects chosen completely at random, or are they specifically chosen based on some criteria?

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! His sampling pool is semi-randomized, though he is still aiming for ones with particularly hairy accounts to share.

Things that were hinted at earlier are now in full view. This is, I think, more realistic than most stories. In real life you'd have some uncaring people like Lillian, but you'd also have people who care about the wellbeing of tiny people, like Ruby.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading! This case, as well as the upcoming one, are meant to acknowledge that not every giantess is a raging psycho.

only to uncover darker revelations about the business he’ll soon wish had stayed buried.

@Carycomic: I'm thnking the exact same thing. We may find out that the higher-ups know exactly what's going on, and think it's just peachy.

Author's Response:

*muffles a devious snicker*

Damn, someone's in trouble. This adds more evidence supporting what we've been predicting, but Listen, before you go brushing this all off like you always do, I know full well I’m in the minority here.  There are enough people around in the Human Relations department and the rest of the company that like what you do is an intriguing conflict that could expand the story greatly.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading. That conflict you mentioned there will mostly be kept in the background of this story, but I intend on making its presence felt more and more.

@Xkcd: I was thinking something similar at first, but the issue is increasingly acknowledged as the story goes on.

As for this chapter, she comes across at first as a believer in tough love, but within reason. At the end, though, it becomes clear that we're in for something pretty dark (especially with the cowering bit), and I bet that when he does get his one on one interview, Lillian is going to look pretty nasty.

Also, what effect has this had on Ruby's personality and behaviour toward shrunken people? It seems like she's been affected like Lillian.

Author's Response: It's an issue that he realized has to be addressed after the oddness of the first interview, though getting the one-on-one chats is still tough if the warden believes something is fishy. The end of the chapter is indeed meant to give a different kind of implication to Lillian. And we'll see just how much Ruby's been impacted by all this next chapter.

Summary:

After the success of Season One, the mysterious studio that runs the Shrinking Show commissions a new season with eight new contestants! One again, eight contestants arrive at the set of this secretive reality show, only learning upon arrival that they will be shrunk down bit by bit, taking part in various competitions along the way. When a contestant shrinks to 1/16th of their normal size they are eliminated--usually. Things are a bit more complicated this time around.

Season Two is longer, raunchier, and all-around better than Season One. As it is a new cast of contestants, it is its own story and you do not need to read Season One to understand what is going on, but it wouldn't hurt.

Everyone in the compound is so nice now. They all get along very well, and Sherri has gone from Betty Lite when Tom arrived, to a very considerate girlfriend.

Then we have Paul and Carla, who are just trying to survive Betty, and Dale, who is now a victim of both rape and domestic violence. I feel sorry for him. Let's see what they're like.

Author's Response:

Yes, we'll be visiting the "naughty" ones next!

This is an excellent example of a gentle giantess story. Sherri is very kind toward Jerry, and together they have a fun date.

The hints about Betty suggest that you're setting up for something...

Author's Response:

Thank you!

Yes, we are learning a little bit more about Betty here. Part of it is just Sherri begining to figure out what anyone who read the epiloge to Season One aleady knows, but much of it is new information that will come into play later!

This is the most interesting competition yet. There are good surprises, and all the stuff in the maze is intriguing and amusing. There have been all sort of wacky adventures.

I'm a bit surprised that Dale won. I figured Betty would have her sights on him, and women tend to do better in general. This is some nice variety.

Hailey, Andy and Carla have three ribbons. Jerry and Vera have two ribbons. Hailey, Andy and Vera will probably get through, leaving Carla and Jerry.

In the game: Marie, Dale, Hailey, Vera, Andy.

With Betty and Sherri: Paul, Jerry, Carla, Let's see if I'm right.

Author's Response:

I tried to not always go for what people would expect to happen in this story--I'm pretty sure no one saw Dale coming out first!

You'll see if your predictions are correct very soon!

I bet Betty is about to cause a turning point in Paul's character arc, before giving him back. Paul's arc has been about dealing with his dwindling power, and he's almost hit bottom. He will be transformed, or broken.
