The reality of being a living being the size of the tallest skyscrapers is not as grand a one might think. Hannah had been awake for almost an hour and this world she was living in now was a very harsh one. It was very hard for her to breathe. It was as though she was in a room with not enough air. Her vision struggled in that she could not make details of the ground. She was pretty sure she close to the road or maybe even standing on it but unless she lay down on the ground she could not see it very well.

When she did lie down she didn’t like what she saw. She had caused a lot of damage when she grew the last time. She had hurt a lot of people. When she was standing it was hard to think of them as people but now looking at the aftermath she understood again the those little things were people and that now she posed a very serious threat to them.

The ground around her looked like a war zone and so not knowing what else to do she wept for everything that had happened. She sobbed and carried on for longer than she might have normally but she realized now that if she kept growing she was going to be the end of the world. Even if she did stop growing she figured it would only be a matter of time before the world would not be able to feed her enough and then the world would starve. Either way it went she did not see a good way for this to end. She did not want to be the end of the world. Sure the world was a messed up place but there were a lot of good people in it who deserved to live.

After a while she saw people and she tried to speak to them. “How bad is it? Is there anything I can do to help?” To the people though it was like the sound of thunder right next to them. Each of them fell to the ground blood leaking from the noses or ears. In return Hannah could not understand their small voices. Trying to communicate was trying and after a while both she and the people near her gave up.
She could see enough at ground level that the stuff she hadn’t crushed had been turned over so she began setting things back up like they were supposed to be. She picked up cars, trucks, and tanks. After a while she had things more or less turned back over and the people around her got into those vehicles and drove away leaving her alone.

Ever since this had began happening to her she had never been left alone but now she was and she couldn’t help but wonder why. She had, had a hard time seeing expressions on the faces of the people she had helped. Some of the people had to have been military because they moved the tank. Regular people couldn’t drive a tank she didn’t think so any way. If that was true then the military and government were leaving her alone.

Hannah struggled with what that could mean. She was afraid that it didn’t mean anything good for her. She was growing hungry and without someone to bring her food she wasn’t sure where she would fine a meal. She was also getting tired of lying on her stomach. She first rolled over on her side hoping that she could get up slowly enough and easy enough that she wouldn’t cause too much damage. When she did she saw a good reason why the military people had left. She had at some point fallen and crushed a number of tanks and other vehicles. She was pretty sure that there were people there in the wreckage.

She wanted to vomit but at that moment she had nothing in her stomach to vomit. She slowly climbed to her feet again and when she did she looked around her. She could see for miles and miles in every direction. Hannah figured that the break in the horizon had to be cities or towns. She was not crazy about wading into a populated area but she had to find some food and she knew that cities meant food.

Hannah was a good hundred and fifty miles from Atlanta but with her stride she was less than ten to fifteen minutes away. The United States military had set up a defensive line just south of the city and was working like crazy to get some type of communication up and running so that they could try to talk to the giant who was walking in their direction.

Their orders were to stop the young woman at the city limits if they could and if all else failed to engage her and try and forcibly stop her from coming any further north. The death toll was still coming in but it was believed that roughly three thousand people had already died when the girl had last grown.

According to top scientist they could not expect that the young woman would stop growing. They also believed that she was already past the tipping point. Meaning that she was to big to feed and to big to care for. She was larger than any animal that had ever lived on the face of the earth. The estimates showed that in another week she could very well be larger than North America and in two weeks the earth. Not that it would matter once she was the size of the country the world would be on its final legs. Her weight alone might destabilize earth’s orbit. Not to mention all the people that would have died before then.

No one was happy that they were going to have to kill an eighteen-year-old girl regardless of her size. Still the human race was at stake and it was not a fight that they were prepared to lose.

Just as Hannah walked through the southern defensive line without really knowing it was there the giant light board came on line and words began flashing up on the screen. Loud music also played to let the girl know that she should come toward it and see what the people had to say.

Hannah stopped just south of Turner Field and looked at the giant screen and read the words that flashed up. “Hannah, Stop here please. For everyone’s safety you must not come any further north.” Hannah made the motion of nodding her head and whispered “ok” which was still very loud. More words came up on the screen “You have cause a lot of accidental deaths and damage and for that reason you must not come past the city.” Again she nodded and said ok. More words “Understand that if you do you will leave us with no choice but to defend ourselves and the citizens of the United States.” Hannah was more than a little shocked. They were stating more or less that if she went into the city they would attack her. She was more than a little angry but after moment she knew they were just trying to protect people from her still it left her feeling angry. Hannah asked about food. The sign spoke again “we will try to provide some food for you but understand that we can not and will not do so at the expense of all the citizens of the country.” Again Hannah was mad but again she understood what they were trying to do. A last set of words flashed on the screen “Hannah understand that if you grow any more then this nation will have to attack you not because it wants to but because it wants to survive.”

A tear slid down her cheek as she knew full well that sooner or later her own countries military might would be used against her and even though she wanted to live with her whole heart she prayed that when the time came that the little people won because the world was not meant to have someone her size in it.

Then almost as if on queue she started growing again and in the distance she heard the low roar of jet engines and very small pops as the ground troops opened up fire.
