Summary:

Haru had spent years getting used to being the one people looked up to.

At home, that mattered even more.

Yuna was small, timid, and easy to push around. Haru knew exactly how to make her back down, and lately, he had begun to enjoy the feeling.

To him, the difference between them seemed permanent.

It was simply the way things were.


But some things change without announcing themselves.

A little at a time.

Quietly.

Almost imperceptibly.

Sometimes, the person changing is the last one to notice.

And sometimes, by the time anyone realizes what has happened, the balance between them is no longer what it used to be.

Haru is about to discover that being the one everyone looks up to is not a position anyone can keep forever.

This chapter sets up Haru and Yuna's relationship, and more importantly, the imbalance between them.

Haru's perspective is intentionally narrow. He knows that some of his behavior is wrong, but knowing something is wrong and understanding why you're doing it are not always the same thing.

For Yuna, being treated as small has become so ordinary that she barely knows how to push back.
