Sorry Shrinkmeister, I never meant to misrepresent your theory.   Though, it could be the way I said it, don't have enough information yet and nothing has directly contradicted it yet.  But yeah, pagan entity, love that.

The idea that their victims essense/souls are being consumed makes them even darker.  I mean, not to impose a judeo/christian perspective (most cosmologies have a "soul" concept) but the idea that they not just steal all the value from their lives (litterally taking their lives, enough so I feel comfortable describing them in terms saved for murderers) and more than likely directly contributing to greatly shortining (No Pun) them, but also leaving them no (or a lesser ) afterlife, makes the 'Megs about the worst things ever to stalk around SM fiction, ever.

And yeah! It is awesome being a fan of this story.  It's kind of our own little Trekkie thing.  With speculation and revelations and just a lot of fun.  Sometime I just want to post (pretend I'm using all caps) dammit Duggernaut, just tell me what happens!  But I really hope he doesn't...hehe.

Peace y'all,

Pix... Just be clear, I was stating that I believe Vesper is the top dog at the local chapter, not for the organization as a whole.  Your theory is an awesome concept! We know old Edith is number 2 (pun intended!) so who would number 1 be?  Could it be number 1 is some sort of evil pagan entity that grants Vesper and the others the power to transform these men through the ritual?  Kind of reminiscent of the old Friday the 13th TV show where power was granted to the user of a cursed object in return for the soul of an innocent.  In the case of the Omegas, the benefit obtained is the life energy which grants the participants virtual immortality and other benefits and of course what is left of the victims as playthings.  In return, the entity receives the worship of the Omegas and perhaps the soul of the victims when they are killed.  Wow, this is indeed getting complicated.  On a side note, I just want to say how much I enjoy the banter between the fellow members here and of course, Duggernaut’s amazing work.  I find myself checking the site often looking for updates.  I am hooked!

Okay, guys, I just need to make things more complicated here for a moment.  With a secret society like this, there’s power structure and then there’s “power structure.”  What I’m saying is both theories could be correct.  However the hierarchy is formally structured, it could be very different in how it works.   Picture Frost as an eternal feature of the group, sometimes she’s no.1, sometimes no.2, or 3, etc....she lets other members get more experience at the “day to day” in the upper levels of power, (and to give her a break from all the paperwork) but she’s always going to be deferred to.   So Vesper could be the no.1 in the organization (she’s probably pissey enough) and Frost no 2  (I don’t gotta say it, do I?)  But what Frost says goes.
Personally I would favor the theory that we haven’t met no 1 yet.  She might be something really dark and inhuman (cause, you know, we ain’t seen none of that) or even a real not human thing.  Like a Platonic evil that the ‘Megs are just reflections of.
If the first theory is correct, then maybe Frost is the only original member remaining.   Maybe the others just faded out, or maybe Frost is the “last witch standing”  after a long power struggle.  That would’ve been something to see.

Another thought that occurred to me regarding the logistics of keeping the Omegas supplied with ample quantities of young college men to consume.  The first aspect involves the source of these men.  For obvious reasons the parent(s) of these men must volunteer their sons (and daughters?) willingly.  A parent not involved in the conspiracy would get the police involved, file missing persons reports and generally make life difficult for the Omegas.  It is possible that the child bearing years for these mothers is extended with the help of the “reaping” and consumption of life energy when they continue to attend the rituals?  We know that Edith Frost was a founding member of the Omegas and that was in 1888. This would make the lovely Edith close to 150 years old.  The additional lifespan these women would have would potentially translate into far more children to donate to the cause.

Even if a willing mother produces children, the children must have a desire to attend college and possess grades worthy of university admissions.  I envision a system where sisters continually are involved and nurturing the development of the children to ensure university enrollment.  I would further theorize that there are sisters situated throughout the university admissions departments to guarantee acceptance to the school and a ready supply of fresh meat for the grinder.  If supplies became thin for some reason I suppose other sources could be found with the help of the roofie juice.  after all, people disappear all the time.

It might be interesting to see a flash back chapter where a very young Oliver or Cam recalls the visits of mysterious women who come to check his progress and remind how important it is to attend the university.  It might even be suggested that the university his mother attended would be a wonderful choice.  Maybe touch on the insiders at the university who discuss processing the applicants through the system… Maybe…

Author's Response:

Excellent deductions when trying to wrap your head around the logistics but why stop there? If they've been indulging in power and manipulation why not invade powerful companies courts politics..

Tom... My initial assessment of Vesper was at a time when we did not know these cruel pagan bitches were anything more than a local phenomenon. Given what we now know, I still believe Vesper is top dog at the local chapter even though she has graduated from school.  The Omega at the cafe was Allie, the chapter president.  Vesper performed the ritual that took Oliver, there was no mention of Allie that I recall.  That said I believe Vesper out ranks Allie or at least appears more prominent in her role.  Vesper was the one who was friends with Edith Frost... The number 2 of the entire organization.

Damn it feels good knowing you backed the right horse.

It is so rewarding seeing Oliver come through in the pinch.

His stair climb is impressive.   An improved strengh to weight ratio would be a desirable side effect of the spell... a more durable little person is more ....useful.  Of course, he might be able to do some remarkable feats (at his scale) the only reason he doesn't is because he doesn't know he can.  If he'd had time to experiment he might have leapt those stairs in one jump.

Avoiding the giant bitches is going to be a challenge i think...but I'm with him all the way.

On the subject of what if there are consequences for girls who won't do the vampire thing.  I have no sympathy for anyone who participates in the ritual, none....so far we have a 100 percent scummy bitch ratio for participants.   Sersi, Brookly, etc...They all deserve to spend some time in a dental chair in the third world.  It's pretty clear (from her harping about her potential to Cam) that Sersi knew the score from a young age.  If you can't summon up the moral courage to run away from that (and gosh, maybe take your little brother with you)... you should be used as bait while fishing for weasel fish.  What Sersi said to the feckless little twerp about having her concerns "washed away"  tells me she made a concious decision to become an evil, disgusting creature.... So those who destroy the lives of others, because it feels good (the only tangible reason we've been offered so far) can eat a pile of moldy gopher dicks and choke.

If there are punishments for going against some central authority...well, don't become part of that system.   But that would mean them making "sacrifices" (instead of the innocent) they might have to work for a living.  They might have to develope something resembling character or integrity... the horror.  Considering the hyper-justification this whole bunch of poop gorgons must have done over the years I couldn't stomach any excuse that might come out of their diseased brains.

Yeah, I'm invested.  Keep making this the best SM story ever Duggernaut.  You rock!

P.S.  Just to be clear, I never said you treated Oliver like a bumpkin.  I actually made an argument that you hadn't.

Author's Response:

Up front, apologies for misrepresenting bumpkin, and yes Oliver, while shrunk has eluded the clutches of the Omega Pi girls, for now...who knows. Now that he is on the loose in the house, the story takes on a whole new dynamic! Thanks for another inciteful review!

So Tom... do you remember our prior chat about Vesper?  Any change in your opinion now?  ;)

Hmm. Oliver is finding this out on his own while Cam just got overloaded with so much information at once when the girls told him everything.

However, I think everyone is forgetting about the main focus here, who is Deacon's new roomate be? Now that Oliver is gone, someone else has to fill in that gap.

Will Deacon be searching for Oliver like the way Oliver searched for Cam? He met Brooklyn and I wonder what she will do in response.

Can Oliver escape and tell the tale to Deacon? Or will he be captured and used like his other comrades?

I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

I think all depends on how they try an sell Oliver's disappearance, but remember, Deacon and our tiny hero set up a code, so things might get very interesting!

Way to go, Oliver! Steadfast determination doesn't even _begin_ to describe this now-little guy.

Bravo, Duggernaut, for another masterful cliff-hanger! :-)

Author's Response:

Thanks Carycomic, now the veil has been lifted, let's see what Oliver has up his proverbial sleeve
