I am really loving this story. Having it be first person perspective really adds a lot to it.

Author's Response:

Thanks! Though I've only attempted it once before, I'm enjoying first person, especially since the protagonist is the 'quiet type'.

Amazing, loved this chapter! And poor Alani is gonna go humgry for a week just to make a "friend" outta an asswipe like Carl!

Author's Response:

Thanks! As for Alani, she does seem way too trusting.

this story kind of reminds me of rowena first person few from from and just to add to my first comment it makes the story intresting when there is a diffuclty of a giant or tinne having a relationship problem due to size or in some cases problem with the there culture like how you got the farmer life down.

Author's Response:

Hmm, not sure I'm familiar with Rowena. Is that a book of some sort? Thanks for your feedback.

SpookyTaco, this story is an absolute joy to read. You're clearly a very talented, perhaps pro-level writer. I think both the setting and the narrator are presented amazingly well; you say so much in so few words. I have to echo everybody else and say that Alani is an extremely cool character: her innocence and earnestness in the face of her tormentors draws the reader in immediately, and her goodness of spirit is infectious. While you maintain the story won't have any X-rated material, I believe this is one of the few stories on the site that will be eagerly followed in spite of that.

If I had to contribute one piece of criticism, it would be that Alani's intelligence is certainly a big question mark. As you are definitely aware, first-person narratives can be tricky because every single word reveals something about the character. Thus far, Alani's inner monologue leads us to believe that she's not mentally diminished by any means and instead very innocent, as another reviewer mentioned. (A fine first-person narrative of a cognitively impaired character is Benji in "The Sound and the Fury" by Faulkner.") So if she is simply innocent, it's tough to reconcile some of her insightful observations with her blind loyalty to villains like Carl. That being said, I think that this isn't a minor structural flaw so much as me having not read the whole story; I imagine that you have a clever plot device waiting in the wings that will not only sweep all of this initial speculation away, but make the story that much richer.

Great story so far. I'll be following closely as this story progresses, smut or no!

Author's Response:

Thanks a lot for such a lengthy and informative review! I like your comments about her intelligence. I'll have to read The Sound and Fury as I'm curious about Benji's portrayal, now that you've mentioned it. However, I agree with you that Alani's inner monologue shows her as being more intelligent than she herself (and some others) think. Is it possible for someone to be intelligent yet incredibly naive in some areas? What if the person isn't human (reminds me a little of some android and robot books, though Alani is neither)? How is it possible for a giantess to be a slave her entire life, yet never turn on her owners who are so much smaller and who mistreat her? Why does she struggle so much with obvious lies from Carl, doubting herself instead?

Those are some of the questions I'd have. We'll have to see. Thanks again!

Carl is obviously one of those sadistic p---ks who thinks "discipline" and "torture" are two different names for the same thing.

Author's Response:

Have to agree with you on that one!

Author's Response:

A princess, eh? Hmm, not sure if I've read that one. I may have to go check out their new website and see what mischief these the humans have gotten themselves into.

Well, it looks like Kenji is about to screw everything up!  Fugly's gonna start thinking better 'bout herself, and her looks, and then what...

She might start thinking for herself, then the humans won't be able to control her as easily.  She'll soon realize that she doesn't have to listen to the little pip squeaks anymore, and she could just squish 'em, like little bugs!

(Carl's thoughts, as he tips back the rest of his boot-leg and stumbles on home)

Author's Response:

Lol, I was upset until I read your last line. Haha. Nice one.

Seems Alani doesn't know how beautiful she really is but when you've got people like Carl who call her names and put down her looks and being looked at with great disgust then it's no surprise. Those who noticed she has a child like innocence are right, she assumes that Carl is always truthful even he isn't and assumed he was watching her carry rocks when we all know he was looking at Alani's chest.

It would seem that nudity is no issue to Fyths and they are really thought of poorly by humans, if Carl and Brandon are anything to go by and her own thoughts seem to echo it. She has really low self esteem but Kenji might be able to raise it.

I am starting to like Kenji, the way he handled Carl was awesome and I had thought you would have this subplot with Kenji being led on by Carl that Alani was a bad worker but you had Kenji see right through it with ease, well done!

However the smile Carl had as he left is unsettling, he'll be back to cause trouble for sure. I can see it easily.

Lyric is a bundle of joy as always and somewhere underneath that hard exterior of Kenji is a far softer side of him that needs some loving, I just get this feel about him. That 25 minute swim is going to be a lot longer now.

Did you get this idea about doing the reverse of Titan?

Author's Response:

It's funny you mention 'reverse of Titan'. Initially I was thinking 'reverse giantess', a giantess with no control. But there are some similarities to Titan since a 'slave' relationship isn't much worse than a 'pet' relationship.

I think that the Fyth phsiological and mental differences are a bit more extreme -- more will be revealed on that later. Titans and humans are pretty similar in those aspects. But, then again, humans that were bred as 'pets' in Titan universe showed vast intellectual differences from Titans. Needless to say, Titan has influenced my work and that will probably always be the case, given how much I enjoyed reading stories in that universe. The only reason I stopped reading Titan was because of Luke and Aisell. If they ever get back together, someone please notify me. I'll have a lot of back reading to do. If they don't, I'll continue to weep in private (I'll probably do the back reading anyway, lol, when I get time...but I'll still cry for my favorite couple).

As an old friend of mine would say, whirrrrou!

Loving the story, and (knowing your style), waiting for what form of inevitable comeuppance Carl will receive. Hopefully something utterly humiliating.

Alani has a similar thought-wording to quite a few child characters, which implies that she isn't inherently stupid, just uneducated- in fact, I'd say her ability to adapt so well to change and forgive easily shows that she has the potential to be extremely intelligent. In fact, I hope she begins learning to read or something. (Don't mind this paragraph, just me being pointlessly speculative).

All in all, a great read, and I can't wait for Chapter 3.

Author's Response:

One or more of your predictions may come to pass. :) Thanks for the review.

Alani is so cute! I really liked the chapter, I hope that jerkwad Carl gets canned!

Author's Response:

She is, isn't she. Let's hope Carl's attitude has been adjusted since Kenji had a word with him.

just curious is there going to be a love intrest later in the story

Author's Response:

No idea. I'm a discovery writer so I can't predict what will happen. However, there is some form of romance in all of my stories; so I'm almost positive there will be romance in this story too. However, nothing explicit. Any intimacy, if present, will not exceed a PG13 rating. :)

Cool~ Your Back! I just knew it!

I was wondering how long it would be though,... I have you in my bio, as my favorite Author, (the only one so far) and after you seemed to abandon this site, I debated on deleting 'SpookyTaco', but, I just couldn't do it!

I figured that, sometime later someone might ask me who you were, since there were no storys under that pen-name, and I would've just told them that, you were a phantom author that will return one day...

__Like the theif that got away,...they always return to the scene of the crime! Lol!

Glad your back Dude!

This sounds like it has an interesting set-up, so far.  I look forward to soaking it in!

Are you going to update frequently, or slow it down?

_

Author's Response:

Hah, well I never said I was abandoning the site, I just wanted to remove my first book and rewrite it, but I didn't get very far. I can't do rewrites; it's just not in me. First book can still be downloaded here: tinyurl.com/npbfgzu.

As for the updates, they'll be much slower. I'm going to try to write this one and a different book (non-giantess, vampire book) at the same time. Giantess theme is one of my favorites, but I also like dragons and vampires and lots of other 'cliches'. :)

Thanks for the commentary and thanks for favoriting me :)

Interesting opener! Although, I have to confess: the title reminds me of a joke my father once told me.

As in: "The best way to celebrate the Fourth of July...is to buy a Fyth on the Third."

Author's Response:

Lol. Yeh, alien species names can be tricky to pick. I urban-dictionary everything nowadays, just so I don't make an embarassing mistake. Of course, FYTH was defined there but it's definition seemed so obscure, I doubted its validity. As for a fifth of a gallon, that seems more plausible. And who knows, maybe Alani comes from a race of heavy drinkers. :)
