I lke the style of the story, like an inside edition for fans of our fetish.

Author's Response:

That definitely crossed my mind as well. Thanks for reading!

Stevens? Ooh, from the Timeout series! So I guess it all began with Scott's mom.

Author's Response:

Connections, connections, connections... :)

So this is set in the same place as Blackmail but in the future? I am very curious. Time for me to keep an eye on this one...

Author's Response: Basically, yes. Most of my stories are supposed to take place in the same "world," and this one is meant to help connect them a bit more. Thanks for reading!

The beginning was a bit dry, but it got really intriguing in the last third, when you hinted at the possibilities for stories. The bit about Carly was great, and of course you can't spoil Julia, but maybe later in the story...

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! There was a specific reason Julia wasn't mentioned here (I won't say if that's good or bad), though I will mention that this chapter contains a clue about how Jack and the others might be able to beat her. ;)

No TRUE Scotsman would ever misuse the MRD! Such a specious argument by Technological would never stand up to a modern court's scrutiny, but the whole "35 years later" comment makes me think that this could possibly be set in a semi-dystopia, in which the judicial branch lost its power long ago.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the comment. This is indeed set in what could be called a semi-dystopia. The judicial branch hasn't necessarily lost its power, but it's a far cry from the more balanced one of the real world due to changing perceptions of justice and law enforcement.

Hmm, this is a lot of information for a first chapter. Are we looking at a potentially new long story from Jacksmith.

I noticed the references to A little Blackmail. How glorious

-10 stars for lack of Honda Civic content.

+10 stars for referencing Carly

+10 stars because its a Jacksmith story

sorry for the shit review. I just got back from class and only had time to skim

Author's Response:

Good to hear from ya, man. I'm honestly not positive how long this will be yet, but I know it will be at least 10 chapters.

Good thing my triumphs just barely doubled my offenses, or otherwise I might not've come away with 10 stars! In my defense, I'm saving the Civics for whenever I too make a sequel parody story.

Obviously not much to truly get into here, but damn at all those juicy hooks.

First, no mention of June leads me to assume the worst as to what ultimately happened to her in the name of ~science~ but, well, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Second, a nice little peek at the Stevens from the outside, so to speak. It's interesting to me that Judy herself is even reporting progress as being made, though no potential date even being known for Scott's release is....troubling, to put it lightly, even with the involvment of a third party.

Third, oh god finally a damn look at the results of Blackmail! It's nice to get some idea of the aftermath of that, and more than interesting to get a look at how it's affected use of this technology beyond the conclusion. Though as with the above, given that Jack's ordeal was both made public and apparently elicited an outcry at the time, it's troubling that that the technology has both come about and entered popular use to subject people to the same treatment that Jack was. I do have to imagine that Judy followed that whole matter intently at the time, though :P

All in all, while dry due to the nature of the story's presentation, I eagerly await more. This is a really nice look at your world, from a viewpoint we often don't get - that of someone with some sense of ethics toward the whole matter.

Author's Response:

Very glad to hear your thoughts as always, bud. I was hoping you'd have commentary to make on this one.

1. I'll just keep silent on June for now...

2. It's worth keeping in mind that Judy needs to actually convince people that shrunken house arrests are effective if she wants the practice to gain ground.

3. Jack's ordeal was made a big deal of back when he was freed, but as a side effect of the passage of time, Carly's crime is viewed as more of a tragic event of history rather than a deterrent to size-changing ever again. Hence, people are more willing to accept it at the time that this story/report takes place due to the supposed total security provided by the actual device.
Judy would've been about 9 at the time of Jack's story breaking, and you can bet even then a small part of her was... curious.

I figured it was high time we got a speaker who understands, you know, human morality and shit. I hope you like the upcoming stuff.
