"Fathom," I mean. "League," however? Yeah; that definitely only seems to get used in stories set in "olden times." Like the medieval legend of the 7 League Boots, for example.

*I'd no Idea that fathom was a term that was obsolete...  Is 'leagues' obsolete too?

i.e,-'20,000 leagues under the sea'?



Author's Response: Well, it's obsolete in terms of usage by American naval personnel. I don't know about merchant mariners and other civilian sea-goers.
