A ballsy move to kill off a major character while still somewhat early in the series.  It was always reassuring to me that the shrunken people had at least one ally in the Society.  I'm somewhat familiar with the game this is based off of and I know just how evil it is.  I wonder how Sanders will survive this himself.  He not only interferred with a Matriarch, but he did it with an illegal firearm.  I get a sense where this might be headed.Sanders will probably quit the Society and join the Resistance (eventually), and once things settled down Avial will probably be grown and made a full member of the Society.  This would pitt her againest her former friend.

I look forward to the next chapter!

Wow! What a twist! Out of all the updates this week yours takes the cake!

I really did not expect Isabella to die like that and to have Sanders be the one to do it. Damn. Whatever she learned she is taking to the grave unfortunately.

RIP

I fully expect Sanders to be done with the society after this. No way can he work with an organization that has two corrupt bitches as the head.

So is this the end of chapter 1?

Author's Response:

Nope one more chapter of Act 1

I just reread the chapter....Man I can't believe Isabella was offed like that. She was such a good character and a kind caring person. The fact that Sanders killed her to ease her pain just hits even harder. This chapter was amazing and deserving of all this praise and more, I really hope we get an update to this soon...The suspence is killing me!

Yeah...I was listening to Blue as I was writing that last part.

Holy fucking shit, this story just got a hundred times more interesting over the course of one chapter! What was so important to the society that they needed to kill Isabella so quickly!? Oh man, where is this story heading towards?

Author's Response:

To the end of Act 1, obviously. And maybe we will find out.

And what's up with the lack of chapter names now? :p

Man! Who ever wrote that Society article must've plagiarized Cold War-era Russian propaganda about "agricultural collectives."

Isabella and pals perhaps beginning to see the Society in a new light? Aviel seems very opposed to thinking badly of the Society in any way. As always, I really enjoy updates from this story! Oh, and I can't wait to find out where Isabella is going; it seems rather suspicious that she's leaving all of a sudden...could it have something to do with Fionne's vision? Oh the suspence kills me!

Actually, Val is right. There is another way to explain a human clone remembering the experiences gone through by the original person. Genetic memory! It's an admittedly still-unproven hypothesis first voiced circa 1911 by some French scientist (possibly as an explanation for the feeling called "deja vu").

"Resistance bombing," my foot!

As to the unit's disbandment being "better?" That's highly debatable. The lesser of two evils is NEVER better! It's simply more grudgingly tolerable (emphasis on the "grudge"). As to the fight in the mess hall? Stupid? Yes. Half-cocked? Arguable (considering how the targeted parties got their asses handed to them, which is _not_ usually the case in such fights). And, with all due respect to Madame Catherine: how the frig were Isabella et al supposed to _know_ there was an undercover investigation of Slutice and company already in progress?

Sorry for the long-winded review. I tend to get that way with stories I get emo-involved with. Which, believe me, is high praise for this one, indeed! :-)

While it's clear Lutice is crazy, it's hard to say if it's natural, or a cause of her work, or something else, but her brief bouts of lucidity regarding Sanders are perhaps more disturbing than if she was an out an out villain.

Should be interesting to see where are tiny heroes end up. Looking forward to more.

Author's Response:

Don't want to say much, but I will say I don't generally like out and out villians. They are OK once every so often, but I far prefer a villian that you can kinda see their point of view or at least feel bad about.

There are a few just out right EVIL people in this story, but most are not.

Tsk tsk tsk…. Is all I can say… I knew going in bull headed was going to get them into serious trouble. But who knows, maybe Isabella can go rouge now since she doesn’t have a job.

If only Isabella had given Morgan that ride.

Author's Response:

Indeed. But I am a big fan of there being just that one little, seemingly, irrelvant choice that might have changed everything.

Oh well...

Well, thanks for giving us this chapter, prior to the holiday. And, believe me; you did a great job depicting the reunion!

Flonne's repressed memory--about faes that are apparently trained, by the Swords, to pre-emptively attack--was plausibly rendered. And that bit about heavy punishment for Swords and Shields caught in the act of dueling each other to the death?

I have a hunch that's more for _allowing_ themselves to be caught at it, rather than for the dueling, itself.

Nice update! I especially loved the tidbits of awkwardness when Sanders just non-chalantly comes knocking on the door, alive and well. Really well done there, as well as playing on Fionne's emotions and Pyrra being jelly that Sanders was taken away like that! As for Morgan, well she must REALLY be new to being a giantess because she still finds time to be amazed by just how big she is in her current state.

As always, this was an excellent and well written chapter, and I wonder how your going to end Act I of this story.

Unless the scouts carry recording gear on their person, it’s going to be hard to prove that Lutice’s squad was at fault for the confrontation that led to Sanders getting “killed”, especially with Sanders actually being alive. While I understand their rage, going in guns blazing isn’t going to help make their case at all. I have a feeling the leaders are going to end up siding with the swords because of it.

What is interesting me more is Fionne’s backstory. I don’t think she was cloned. And Morgan might know more into how fairies are really created.

Also, first!

Finally all caught up after a few days of reading, really amazing stuff you have going here.

On the most recent chapter, looks like the girls just blew past Sanders, that's fine keeps us on schedule for the showdown back at the base!
