Author's Response: Yes, indeed. In feudal Japan, it referred to any samurai without a master (i.e., daimyo or warlord). But, nowadays (as I understand it), it refers to a former Japanese politician who is now in-between jobs in the private sector.

Does Ronin have the same meaning in the 1980s DC Ronin Mini-series? (which I have but haven't read yet?) ie soldier of fortune.

PS good thing one of the Japanese kids had a vision. had she not spoken up I suspect this story would have a much different ending.
