sap is still used, but mostly in tabletop rpgs. blackjacks are illegal, but pretty easy to construct. Did you know if you buy brass knuckles they have to be labled as a "paper weight"?

Author's Response: Well, as I mentioned in a previous reply, "Moustache Pete" was a genuine-though-derogatory-term that American-born Mafiosi had for Sicilian-born dons, in general. I don't know if there was ever such a don, in particular. But, the nickname certainly had to start somewhere!
