This story I decided to let your imagination decide.  Take the scale of things and put a description in your mind.  They are taller than doorframes in this fairytale world and Gerta notices that the bigger men of the village barely come up to her shoulders.  So you can imagine someone who really stands out because they can see over the crowd.  Thank you for asking Angel.
