Did Sylvie get overtime pay for spending so much time in the office?

Changing names partway through got me thinking: a lot of writers here will start a story and then figure out how it ends as they go along. It makes me wonder how many stories were never finished because the writer wrote themselves into a corner, and couldn't turn around because half the story was locked in. Being willing to make big changes to uploaded chapters seems like a good way to make sure that the story will actually finish.

As for the events of the chapter, it makes me wonder about the legality of this. Is this actually legal, or are they powerful enough that it won't be enforced?

It can also tie in with the talk of missing people in Money Matters.

Author's Response:

Well for me, the case was that all the characters related to Stannard were from an old project that I repurposed. So I actually had the whole Stannard thing before I created Sylvie, and once I started writing her story, the old manager characters didn't really fit my initial vision so I changed em. I have about 11-12 chapters planned for this story so I hope I can keep a solid pace start to finish.

I won't say much, except that I hope to get into some stuff that I should've gone into more in Money Matters.

Wonderful!
I like to see moms are the biggest in each families too and rule them ;)

Glad you liked it!

Wonderfully written follow-up to the first chapter! Can’t wait to see where you take this!

Author's Response:

Thanks!

Sylvie is a fascinating out-of-control train of stupidity, and I feel like the train could be about to settle back on the tracks and go to the best place possible. Or crash in a spectacular fashion. Can't wait to find out.

Evelyn has a very low opinion of lower-class people, and she's close to the top of the company that helps lower-class people. So they're profiting massively off of people they think are less than them in every way.

Also, exactly how tall is Candice?

Author's Response:

Sylvie is definitely an oddball, and it's funny to hear you find her fascinating. I'm not even entirely sure where the train is headed but it's going somewhere.

Candice is around 20ft tall, but don't pay heaps of attention to it, I like to keep size measurements a little lose in my story so I don't bog the flow down.

3 words...I love this!!!!

Ok a few more. I love stories that show just how tiny someone is against a fingertip . The feeling of helplessness and minuteness is so well captured with hand play.

Can't wait for more. 😊

Author's Response:

Agreed, I'm glad you liked it.

Thank you!

@tinyguy: The ankle-high workers would be 2 feet tall (Sylvie's height) if their bosses are 25 feet tall or 1 foot tall (half Sylvie's height) if their bosses are 12 feet tall.

Also, if this started 15 years ago, then all but the youngest generation would remember life before this, when everyone had roughly equal size.

Author's Response:

Your comment on it starting 15 years made me realise what an oversight that was, so I've changed it to 35 years now. It just makes more sense that the size bracket is further integrated into society at this point.

So thanks for that :)

@Fosmat looking forward to it!

Particularly interested to see how tall Eileen is, and how big that makes her  in comparison to Sylvie. You mentioned that some of the staff are ankle-height compared to their superiors. If that’s the case for Sylvie, either Eileen and the other department heads are massive giants, or Sylvie has a long way to fall… both scenarios sound very intriguing.

It's great to return to the Money Matters world.

Mrs. Cohehall: Teachers at this school must be well paid if she's eight feet tall - they're not nearly that well paid in some parts of the real world. If this is a school for low to middle height students, then she'd be taller than all of them, but at schools for the richest students, you'd have the issue of either the teachers are a lot shorter than the students, or the teachers are multi-millionaires.

Job in coding or writing: In this world, remote working would be a great option for social mobility.

A job for middle height people, no other requirements: Why would this job care about height and nothing else?

Leona Stannard: How tall is she? But don't tell me know, show me later.

The three employees who were fired: A drip drip drip of hints would be interesting.

Stannard's mission: This makes it abundantly clear that everything about this world is about solving a problem in a way that elevates the rich and diminishes the poor.

Author's Response:

Hey Ancient Relic! Nice to hear from you again.

So, this is actually a bit of a reworked version of the world from Money Matters, it's more dystopian and the brackets have been slightly altered. I try not to world lore dump too much in a story, esp a 1st person one, so you'll see more of the differences as it goes on. But, as to your point, there is more control in places like public schools, teachers are allowed to be at this height for the reason you mentioned, otherwise they would lose control over the kids.

Why hire smaller people? They're cheap!

Leona will remain a mystery don't worry. And as for those three employees, I wonder what happened?

Thanks for the review, I hope you enjoy where it goes.

Excellent start!
As others have said, you’ve done some great world building here, and some of the scenarios you mentioned in this first chapter would be great to see as  standalone works on their own. As a gentle fan, would be cool to see something featuring. Eileen Bellinghart from HR… although, given how you describe her, you could probably work some cruel stuff in there as well to satisfy those fans too.

Author's Response:

Cheers!

I expect Sylvie to reminisce on her escapades throughout the story so those scenarios will come back at some point. The interaction with Eileen is coming right up, should be a fun scene. :)

Awesome! I am a big fan of the world of Money Matters, so I'm glad we have a continuation of sorts. Looking forwards to future updates.

Author's Response:

Thank you!

Yeah I've always enjoyed the world-building I did for that story so it's fun to be writing it again.

Great first chapter I loved the character set up and thought I would love to see side stories of Mrs Colehall as that seemed like an interesting story setup in its own right.

Author's Response:

Glad you enjoyed it.

There will probably be more flashbacks to Mrs Colehall in the story, so don't worry!
