Another good story. Meghan ended up being the most interesting character imo. She spends most of the story protecting her own self interests, but was willing to try the potion on herself by the end. That was a nice little character arc.

Alarica being the lich was pretty obvious and Albert not suspecting her almost seemed a bit out of character, but maybe he was overconfident because he thought the kingdom's last major problem had just been solved. Can't really blame him, he was in way over his head the whole time. He did damn good job solving the kingdom's problems anyways, really punching above his weight.

I've been wondering since the first chapter if this was in the same world as A Diplomatic Mission. The setting and time period seemed pretty similar. It's nice to see that confirmed. There's no real downside to doing so, since it's not like there's any obligation to mix the two stories, but it does leave the door open for it if an idea pops up.

Author's Response:

The way I try to write Albert is that he'll always try to sidestep a problem if he can, that leads to a sort of mental blind spot where if someone says "the lich is dead!" he's not going to dwell on it much, even when he maybe should. Glad you liked how Meghan's story played out, it was fun writing her as a self interested and almost cowardly character for most of the story, but I wanted her to come around to her new home by the end and I think it landed well.

As for the Diplomatic Mission connection a lot of my stories have a very similar late medieval or early renaissance style setting, with matchlock or flintlock guns and swords and sorcery mixed in, it's just a mix of tropes and worldbuilding that I've always been really drawn to. Other stories I've done with a similar setting include From Over the Sea and The Mermaid, which could potentially also take place in this world but I didn't write them with that intention. I don't think I'll do extensive crossovers simply because I don't want people to have to read a ton of other stories to enjoy new ones, we might see some characters or cameos here and there.
