On the other hand, there are some love story tropes that are about as avoidable as black holes! Like talking with a mutual friend of the couple who are growing more-than-fond of each other. A conversation that generically boils down to this.

"Do you love her?"

"It's complicated."

"What's so complicated? You either love her...or you don't!"

That kind of observation has always struck me as asininely naive. True love, like morality, is not black-and-white. More like alternating shades of dark and light gray. It's only when both halves of the couple decide to fully commit to the relationship that the light gray becomes multicolored like a rainbow.

And I--for better or worse--am one of the incurably commitment-phobic.
