I like the story so far, and you've touched on who can be shrunk which is good. However, who defines who can be good or bad? This is of course a very profound question. What it comes down to is whether human morality is objective or subjective. In my opinion human morality is influenced by the environment, scientific advances and culture.
Humans tend to do what is best for their survival (or at least that used to be all their brains were useful for, since our brains are now so great we don't just need to use them to survive anymore). Evolution is clearly a contentious issue in some parts of the world, but the truth is morality is different in different parts of the world and is constantly changing as societies change.
I think I may have gone into too much detail but I'm thinking that if the main character is accidentally shrunk, this could be the reason. The difference is culture between countries can be unnerveving for some. For example, in the United Arab Emirates kissing in public is seen as a crime. I assume a quick peck wouldn't matter so I think they refer to more blatant displays such as French Kissing, which I wouldn't want to see in public myself.
Author's Response:
Personally, I think there are any number of possible explanations. I general idea behind the world is that people use size as and end-all be-all for basically deciding a person's worth and trustworthiness. Even though people are considerably more complicated than the generic terms "Good and Bad" people wanted to adopt these notions for simplicitys sake. Also I'd like to note that I have almost entirely focused on an American point of view so it's more than possible you still have this difference in how things are handled between cultures. Perhaps the shrinking somehow varies. Perhaps the same types of people shrink all across the board, which could theoretically leave a nation with a culture and morals so different from a Western set that it could be a reverse with the "Bad" being big and the "Good" being small.
The primary idea I started off on is that no one knows how or why people are suddenly shrinking. They only attached some sort of explanation to a phenemonon that realistically is not remotely understood. They can be entirely off-base with these ideas but until there's hard evidence demonstrating that they'll go for the explanation that makes them feel most comfortable. IE "Everyone who is a threat is smaller and weaker than me."
And the story of course finds it's basis in a single person who may or may not be totally innocent and how he's trying to adapt to his new size and live his life.
Personally I'm surprised people are putting so much thought into this concept of how people shrink but I'm glad to see a post like this. It means at the very least I have your interest lol. Glad you've enjoyed the story thus far. And thanks for the food for thought

"If you can manage to imagine all that first off props to you"
I can! thank you very much, but only because of the kick ass descriptions you gave me earlier.

You know the best part about writing in the first person is all the witty banter you can add to the story and have it be totally natural.
Man. I am really loving this story. Sorry for review bombing btw.
Author's Response:
I'll happily take any and all reviews lol. Glad you're enjoying it so much

Good show my friend.
I like the use of technology. An app that amplifies tiny voices lol, thats just plain clever.
I must give you the highest praise for showing how a person would deal with being shrunk on a societal level. I found the talk on The DSBS, and the registration to be genuinely interesting.

Just started reading this and I can't help but wonder...
if people shrink when their "bad", doesn't that mean that good and evil are completely objective in this universe?
I sure do hope I'm not overthinking this. Its a good story so far.
Author's Response:
I'd like to think it isn't but it's something people use to arbitrarily make that distinction.

Love the Jaz dynamic.
Author's Response:
Then you'll probably really love the next few chapters I have written out

Ah! I can see it now: he falls out of her purse or whatever and becomes "Prisoner of the Giant Cheerleaders" (rated PG-13).
;-)
Author's Response:
Believe it or not I was debating on that for the longest time lol

Definitely a five-star chapter. Now, where'd I leave that ice water?

One friend down, two to go. It looks like that relationship is over. Sad. I'm very sympathetic. We can only hope that he can carve out some kind of acceptable life, even as those who care for him most doubt his honesty and believe him to be some kind of closet criminal.

It would've been more appropriate if the two of them had been watching some version of "Frankenstein." Because, I think Robby has just created a "monster!" ;-D

This story has been well written throughout and obviously this latest chapter only further intrigues me. Im loving his interactions with his girlfriend and how they're both adjusting to his new size

Hey, great chapter. Nice to see that society's attitudes on shrunk people seem to vary.

First, again? I love it!
I also love how his friends seem to be taking this in stride...so far. Of course, human nature being what it is, curiosity will return to the surface. And, one or two of them are bound to ask him the same thing his mother did.
"What did you do to get _this_ small?!"
I can only hope his new cellphone has a polygraph app.

I know it's a common occurence in that world, but seeing as how the fact that you're a criminal or bad person of sorts when you shrink (usually), his friends seem to take it pretty casually that he shrunk down to 2 millimeters. Especially his girlfriend.
Great chapter though, looking forward to the next one.

I can just hear those DSBS'ers now:
"Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life...without parole."

My thoughts are similar to Carycomic's. THe title could be a little misleading. All 3 are his "best" friend and each probably has had a crush on him. I bet all 3 will find a away to be his "master". I gather his friends are "good" people, so I'm hoping there won't be much in the way of abuse. Maybe just the awkwardness, embarassment, and struggles of an obvious power shift. I look forward to reading more.
Author's Response:
Ah, sorry if the title seems a little misleading. To be honest that was probably the part I struggled with the most before I finally settled on that. I'm still thinking up stuff on the fly but if you're worried about abuse popping up don't be. The worst is probably a possible unaware scenario I'm considering.

Hmph! I have to wonder if he was shurnk because Karma (or whatever) has misinterpreted three unspoken crushes on each of his female school mates as "lust" in his heart. If so, it would seem that shrinkage is no longer just a punishment for evil deeds. But, "evil" thoughts, as well. Emphasis on the sarcastic quotes!
Author's Response:
Could be. Not sure if I'll actually try to get into why he ended up small but it's a fun idea

"Grace and even elegance..."
Similar to what Gene Wilder's character displayed at not instantly reanimating Peter Boyle's character in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (lol!).
Author's Response:
Yeah, I had a bit of fun with that. Glad you liked it. Btw I love that comparison. Wilder and Boyle are some of my favorites
