Author's Response: "Curtis Knox" was the name of a mad scientist--and self-proclaimed immortal--played by Dean Cain (ex-Superman from ABC's LOIS AND CLARK) on an episode of SMALLVILLE, some years back. The fictional Nicodemus flower--also from SMALLVILLE--seemed a fitting source for the hallucinogen developed by Dr. Loveless in the WWW Season 1 ep, "Night of the Murderous Spring." And, "Count Manzeppi," of course, was another lovably campy super-villain played by the late, great Victor Buono during the 1960's.

Let me guess, You're going to use the deminaturizing process in Fantastic Voyage to restore Doug's size. Loved that Filmation cartoon,and think it's a great idea to work it into this.
You seem to have Roy Thomas's writing ability to interconnect a lot of DC plot threads with others.
Author's Response: I'm both humbled and flattered by such a comparison. Especially, since I'm old enough to remember him being employed by Marvel Comics (during the 1970's)! But, while I also enjoyed the Filmation cartoon, I was actually referencing the 1966 Stephen Boyd/Racquel Welch movie that inspired it. ;-)

Although, I'm embarrassed that I didn't catch that double usage of "knocked" during my initial proofreading. It takes me a minimum of two hours just to come up with five hundred-plus words! And, I _still_ find mistakes that I didn't correct before posting the chapter. Very embarrassing, indeed! :-(

P.S.---as far as I can determine, Dr. Daka was created expressly for the Bat-serial. If he appeared in any Golden Age DC comics, at all, it was probably as an adaptation of the serial. Similar to how the original KING KONG was novelized within a year of that film's release.

Oh wow, I remember that Sinbad show. And I especially remember that shrinking episode. Rumina's "close to my heart" comment gave the younger me some very funny feelings at the time.
I'm familiar with the 60s Batman show (fun but a little too camp for my tastes) but who are these time traveling characters you've included? Never heard of Project Tic-Toc.
Author's Response: Irwin Allen, the creative genius who brought 1960's viewers the original LOST IN SPACE, also created a one-season wonder called THE TIME TUNNEL. Project Tic-Toc, based beneath a dry lake bed in Arizona, had created a giant tunnel that could generate what today would be called a "wormhole." The pilot/premiere had Tony Newman (James Darren) activate it prematurely when a visiting Senatorial bean-counter announced that he was seriously considering closing it down. Leading to fellow scientist Doug Phillips (Robert Colbert) going after him. And, with both of them landing aboard the Titantic just a day or so ahead of the collision with the iceberg! The series, though set in 1968, only lasted from 1966-7. Even so, it undeniably paved the way for all similar series, from QUANTUM LEAP to LOST.
