Not a bad opener. But, I think you should clearly indicate what p.o.v. the narration will be: first person; omniscient author; or a little of both.*

*The late, great Louis L'amour used the third one for a lot of his Western novels. Knowing some of his books would contain situations where it would be impossible for the fictional hero to describe events he wasn't present to witness, first-hand.
