"Morally grey characters are so boring...".
I VEHEMENTLY disagree with this.
Proper evil characters can be interesting but it takes more work for that, they need to be charismatic and have a good motive and have really intresting actions while being decently competent.
If you have a basic just evil character and a basic morally grey character the latter is more interesting almost all the time because the conflcit between their morality makes an immediate hook as oppsoed to the evil one who needs a bit more.
For example what made ramona interesting wasn't just that she was vicious to Penepe it was why, and how it stemmed from mistreatment. Ramona being an itherwsie somewhat ok person really highlight how badly penelope was to her so that she would dehumanise her own cousin to that extent.
As for he thief it felt odd ebcause like I said she had no incentive to help the two and had all the social backing and carte blance to do watever, which is why I thought it was when the story turned back around to have her be a murderer it felt like regression.
keep in mind the average person, is super hateful to cleric's like Milly so it was a refreshing change of pace.
I'd like to see Ramona again, I feel like there's yet good potential to be had with that character, I'm immensely curius how'd she tkae getting trounced by our protags.
Would she just accpet it, would her and ther mother share notes(I wodner how mother would react pieceing together that Penny was in the city)

Ok I have some thoughts.
I'm very interested in what will happen once Penelope get's magic and size back, I hope the story doesn't immeditaly ends afterwords, because I want the consequences of that:
How will her and Mildred's dynamic alter based on that event I would assume they would still be close and probably spend all their time together, since Penny has no other friends.
Speaking of which I wonder if she would make the habit of acutally making friends since she now has a different outlook on life with first and only friend, i'm sure Milly would drag her along to be introduced to some people.
Speaking of making friends it can also be done with some missed oppurtunities.
Namely Ramona.
I like how Ramona is the consequences of Penelope's cold demenour given form, her cousin tried to make connection but she was spurned to the point where she dcouldn't humanise Penelope because the Dark Sorceress wouldn't let her. So of course she was more inclined to to take her life.
Ramona hating her to that extent should defintely be a wake up call to Penelope, However I was disapointed in some of Ramona's charaterization.
My view of Ramona is someone who still bitchy but is ultimately a nice person when it doesn't concern Penelope. We were shown hints of this when she mentioned that she actually people she calls friends, peopel she has bond with and spends time.
And she actually showed to the capacity to be kind to Mildred.
Though now that i'm thinking this is the second time this has happened with a morally dubious character where they were driven more into the direction of dark as opposed to grey than I would've liked.
For example Yelena the thief. When she encoutnered them she was a socia god to them for all intents and purposes they were worn out and powerless, Penelope especially, in a town where Preistesses or looked down and socially stigimatised she could've done anythign to them and gotten away with it, their fate was in her hands, yet she helepd with no particular insentiv and with social culture that was incentivise cruelness.
So I was quite disapointed when she turned out to just be a murderer, I was also disapointed when Ramona got so mad that it looked lile she was going to kill Mildred because I saw her dynamic with Milly to be more idnicative as how she can be as a normal person,
More civil and would be more prone to intimidation and ultiamately hollow threats when simply insulted by someone she doens't utterly deteste like Penelope. And some even she could recognise is a more gentle and genuine person in Mildred.
Because even she was able to recognise this is a good personw hich is why she was some perplexed that she would care for Penelope.
I liked Penelope's shell shockedness and how disturbed she was at the mosnter she created, how her own cousin tried to murder her.
I would the two to cross paths again maybe she started following Milly and Penny after the even at her house, and she finds them after Penny get's her magic back and they have a duel.
She would be bested of course but perhaps isntead of theinevitable death she would expect Penelope offers an olive branch to try and write her wrong and attempt to develop a relationship with Ramona.
Even for psot development Penelope this would be quite a task to bring herself to do but it would be nice to see the Penelope attempt to prove Ramona's conceptions about Penelope's cold heartedness wrong.
I would also be cool to see a simialr thing should cross paths with the party again, I sure Penelope would be even more inclined to murder them, but Mildred would persuade her otherwise.

The story won't immediately end. I have at least 1 chapter planned once they perform the ritual. That being said, I neither confirm nor deny that she will get her magic back :)
Ramona wasn't meant to be more than a minor antagonist. I wouldn't go as far as to say Penelope created her. The two had a poor relationship and Ramona developed a complex. We currently don't have plans for her to return, aside from one minor thing. Yelena, too. Sometime evil people are just evil! Morally grey characters are so boring... That's why you'll rarely find them in this story.

Loved this chapter! It was a cute start for them to begin bonding. Mildred is a sweetie, I like her even more now.
I wonder why clerics are so hated there. I'm curious about that.
I also wonder what they intend to do if they catch up with the others. They're all clearly more powerful than them, and they also hate both of them. It seems to me like it'd be better to let them sell the book and then try to get it from whoever bought it. But we'll see!

Loved this episode, as always! There were very cute interactions, and it was very fun to read.
I was just as surprised as Penelope when Mildred called the soldiers. I super didn't expect that. I get that she's supposed to be a very lawful character, but this felt somewhat...off. I don't know, I didn't think she'd be that kind of person. I don't know how I feel about that.
But I still love her and I still want to hug her. Great job, can't wait for the next chapter! <3

Mildred's brand of justice isn't as clear cut as one might expect. She's also fallible, even more so when riled up. You'll see more of her morality as the story progresses.
