Nichiren (1222-1282): a Japanese monk who basically said that the Lotus Sutra school of Buddhism was right, and all the others were wrong.

Yamabushi: any reclusive mountain-dwelling monk of Japan. Ninjitsu is supposedly derived from the martial arts of these religious hermits.

Sarumawashi: literally, "monkey-trainer." Any street performer who puts on a show, using a trained snow macaque, for tourists and Japanese nine-to-fivers alike.
