Thanks for the reply and for inviting a more detailed take!
Answering your question (“May I ask for some more detail about the difference in the ending (cathartic) between this story and others I have written?”):
Why this ending felt more cathartic than in other works of yours I’ve read (The Neverending Woman, Michele XL, Megan in the City):
I’d say the key difference here is the presence of a clearly defined protagonist. In many of your stories, the focus diffuses and we’re left with a landscape of antagonisms — including the giantess who starts well-intentioned and ends up corrupted by power, facing off against an equally cruel government. Here, that pattern does not repeat: the narrative holds a moral compass, delivers a cathartic payoff, and still leaves fertile ground for continuations.
Clear payoff to the central question (unchecked power vs. responsibility): each trio lands a coherent outcome — Casey faces consequences, Lisa finds restoration, Kelly chooses reason — and we, as readers, finally get to exhale.
Felt aftermath: the world absorbs what happened (authorities, arrest, relationships broken/redefined). It’s not just spectacle; there is closure.
Real character change (even if subtle): Kelly admits the fear of losing control and opts to revert; Lisa holds her moral compass even while giant; Kevin moves past shock and seeks protection. This metabolization cleanses the accumulated tension.
To me, Side Effects is a self-contained story: the character trajectories complete a full cycle that, at first, didn’t require a sequel — which is exactly why it was wonderful to read Parts 2 and 3 afterward: they expand the consequences without undoing what was already tight and, at the same time, offer a satisfying “What if…” for Kelly.
About the ending: as mentioned, it’s tense and cathartic, delivering exactly what the moral setup promises from early on. The killer giantess (Casey) — the most ruthless and impulsive — is stopped and will pay for her crimes; the empathetic giantess (Lisa) gets her life back; and the hesitant giantess (Kelly) wavers, but makes the most logical choice: returning to normal. And the ripples of that choice hit hard in Parts 2 and 3 — your series shows that “going back to normal” doesn’t erase the damage; it changes the kind of cost.
Conclusion
I’d love to see more empathetic characters and clearly drawn protagonists in future works — I believe that could bring other stories up to this same level, which remains my favorite (including its continuations). The story is captivating.
Again, brilliant work (10/10) — tight, tense, and satisfying, yet fertile enough for Parts 2 and 3 to shine without “undoing” the first story.
Author's Response:
Thanks so much for the detailed reply, and again for the praise.
While my writing style has improved, I agree that Side Effects is my most complete story when it comes to character variety, plot development and grounding with the real world. I am in the last touches of another story that will feature multiple characters with different approaches that I believe may even be better (I'll love your feedback when it comes :)), but it's true that most of my other works are focused on the antagonist.
I'll definitely keep the feedback in mind as I write future stories. As you'll have seen, I particually like rampages in the city, which ends up not making this so straight forward.
Just out of curiosity: which of my other stories would come second in your ranking?
Cheers!

What was the update to this story? I got excited seeing it on the front page haha
Author's Response:
I made a mistake... posted the new "Megan in the City" chapter in this one, and removed it 5 minutes later. But apparently the story remains updated in the front page. So, are you missing the Side Effects universe? :)
