Well, now I don't have a clue what Amalia's endgame is. She needs Claire but already has a grand scheme years in the making? Alpha will naturally takeover but she has to hide most of her organization in the shadows and kidnap/kill betas? She seems to want to raise tensions between alphas and betas, something like a race war? Perhaps she's stealing defense secrets to have the means kill off the beta majority military when they try to mobilize when civil strife happens in communities and cities between alphas and betas since fighter jets, tanks, and heavy weapons are the only chance betas have? The plot's gone over my head when it went from local city experiencing an alpha generation transformation to something that may turn into a countrywide coup.

Author's Response:

I am surprised by how many people jump to the "Well hit them with everything you got!" They are still citizens of the same country. Enhanced or not they aren't starting a civil war.

As for the plot, everything has to build out from somewhere. The "after" of all of this is sort of pre-determined as this is based on the ideas set forth in GH-X2. While not the actual 'prequel' it is known what the world will look like later on.

Summary:

A story of life and love and a bunch of things actually. The sequel to MAJOR/minor and probably Rembrandt Logan too honestly or whatever who really gives a shit right?

Well gosh I hope she doesn't wake up the morning after to find a minor with broken bones and angrily hold him at fault for disturbing her and getting himself hurt. Does this story hint at the telepathic powers minors have that the old Major supremacist Howard Waid talked about in the Major/minor story of Alejandro and Shannon? Why the Majors once tried to actually exterminate the minors?

Author's Response:

I think it's pretty clear by now that's not how things went but that's a pretty interesting angle to appoach it from! I should consider that in the future. Also lore wise I just apporach it as anything you want to be canon is but don't hold it against me if it never comes up.

Oh, are Cyclopean MAJORs starting to pop up that have surpassed Shannon Matthewson and some of her kids? She was the biggest Cyclopean yet during her younger adulthood and I think three or so of her kids passed her up with the tallest daughter being something like 23.5 ft tall

Author's Response:

It's been awhile in the timeline since MAJOR/minor. I feel like Kurogane set the precedent for this by making some of Shannon's children even taller than she was, but even with that said Rose is a pretty rare being and the fact that Elliot is a minor might be nature putting a cap on how big a MAJOR can really get. At least if you were asking me anyway.

Interesting twist with Rose's personality. This does explain though why she puts so much trust and responsibility on Riley. With how confident and outgoing Riley is, acting as a genuine friend giving Elliot all the independence and freedom he needs, I would've figured someone as seemly domineering as Rose would simply hire a special assistant to chaperone Elliot everywhere and keep anyone Rose hasn't meet and approved of at arms length from him while making Elliot walk whatever path Rose would pick for him. It's unfortunate that Rose has already highlighted what the problems are preventing what connect her with Elliot but has yet to address them. She's terrified of her own strength and how fragile he is to the point she wouldn't even pick him up and comfort him when he fell off a swing as a young toddler. So Elliot probably grew up with few and far between hugs and comforting interactions with his mom and now whenever she does interact with him it feels stiff and frigid. And worst of all, she's never tried to turn off her biggest of the big Cyclopean personality and demeanor. It seems like she only ever acts in two moods, intentionally intimidating or un-intentionally intimidating. Just about every other sentence she said to Elliot left him flinching and her internally grimacing because it came across as disappointed, threatening, or demanding. It's a shame that by her own admission "she was beyond caring too much if she intimidated other MAJORS by this point in her life" because it's all Elliot ever sees in her and only helps build up his fear and hesitation around her. Her intruding on his mind without asking and saying he couldn't keep secrets from her is probably the biggest offense for me, even though in her mind she thought she was being a responsible parent but at least she noticed her intrusion left him trembling and felt some guilt.

I'm waiting to see who in Hilda's family is going to be the one to screw up and piss off the secretly over-protective Cyclopean. Basil's a strong contender since with his temper he might lash out and severely hurt Elliot even if Rose is there by attacking before she notices the danger. 2nd contender for a bully hurting Elliot is probably Richie Jr. I have a feeling the halfsie is a bit bitter about being one and will be more then happy to taunt and pick on a minor, managing to goad Elliot into hitting him only for him to hit back harder. Finally Richie, Lionel, Lionel's wife, the twins, or most importantly Moonie are likely to run their mouths and say something Elliot and Hilda wanted to keep a secret from Rose because they know it'll send her into a rage. Like how Hilda technically raped him on their first meeting. Hilda might catch Rose's ire before even someone like Basil in that case. I was actually wondering if a minor side character shows up in the story because of how convinced Hilda is about Basil eventually showing up unannounced to get violent about her seeing Elliot. I figured eventually a Cyclopean who works as the security director for her company/plantations would be brought in. Now with how big Rose is, maybe the security director brings in a younger guy or girl in their family whose part of this younger generation of even bigger Cyclopeans. Someone as big or within that last foot of height to Rose. Because if Rose snatches him away and refuses to let him see Hilda, she's going to need someone at the door who can turn Rose away if Elliot runs back to Hilda. If the hint about a property is Elliot's parents buying a house near Elliot's college so that he can live under Rose's roof again, they'll probably be in the same neighborhood as the Maldera's since Rose needs to buy the biggest of renovated mansions to accommodate her.

I'm also really curious to see what happens with the bonding developments. I'm a bit shaky about the nature of bonding. I remember in Izzy's story some Major's belong to a tier that allows them to completely overwhelm a minor's mind even if they are trying to guard it. But now apparently some minors like Moonie are learning how to be the one's overwhelming MAJORs. I think there was something about how in the distant past minors had much stronger bonding power. That old MAJOR from Alejandro's story made a comment about how MAJORs had to nearly wipe out minors because of something to do with their bond powers. Moonie brought it up in her little pool ceremony and had fawning MAJORs around her desperate for her to bond them to hint about it. And behind the scenes she just did something to upstage her bullying niece. Then there's Minnie whose not a halfsie but still a rather short MAJOR and seems to be on the cusp of awakening the ability to be the first MAJORs who can bond with MAJORs in the series. I'm curious what the nature of Rose's bonding with Elliot was like when he was a kid. I'm wondering if she somehow managed to mess even that up by injecting her own fears and trepidation over him. Because if it was the only time she could calm his nerves and let him feel her love and concern for him, I'd imagine they would keep doing it over the years and she'd bond with him now to calm him down. I'm wondering if Moonie would ever be arrogant enough to try a forceful control bonding on Rose because a very threatening response as she plucked the little girl up if it failed and Moonie's terrified face would be hilarious to see.

Is Elliot not only Rose's only son, but her only child? From her initial cold and authoritative introduction and the line that Elliot is Rose's only son in CH 7, I started wondering why a gigantic and wealthy Cyclopean wouldn't have more kids. I started thinking what if the reason Elliot's an only child is because of how embarrassed Rose was for her first child to be a minor. Also possibly what if after she learned her first child was a minor and angrily went to a doctor for how she could possibly have such an insignificant child, she would learn an unfortunate truth like she had a rare genetic mutation where every child she had would always be a minor? If she ended up being a demanding perfectionist Cyclopean, it would explain why she'd be cold and distant from Elliot. He'd be a disappointment she'd have to live with and she'd never have a proper MAJOR/Cyclopean child that could live up to her standards. Now that it's revealed she is actually loving and concerned for Elliot, just unable to express it, I'm wondering if why she hasn't had more children might still be similar in a way. Terrified not because she's worried of the shame of having a 2nd minor child, but from the terror of having another fragile and vulnerable. For poor Elliot, she only knows how to try and buy his affection rather then interact with him to earn it. When she hesitantly asks her husband if she's failing as a parent, probably the only self-doubt she ever openly expresses as a Cyclopean, I'm wondering if it's an indicator she fears having another minor child and failing all over again.

Summary:

The story of Allison Starr and Brian Bentley continues. Allison is no longer a Chevalier, and she is in a relationship with Brian. Now, with an uncertain future ahead of them, they must decide how to proceed if they want to clear Brian's name. Luckily, some help arrives in the form of Allison's college mentor.

We're two days into the investigation- Senator Day. Also we caught the real killer and Brian Bentley is innocent. Well that was abrupt. So i guess Elizabeth is going to reach out to Senator Day to get Brian restored then. Wonder if she's going to insist on full press coverage: from an intial metting outside the clinic where she makes a speech about justice and her policies (anti Shrink penalty), asks to awkwardly hold Brian in her hands before the cameras, and force Brian to be endure being scrutinized the whole time all the way up to he's restored (perhaps the brief interlude where he's regrown nude), and finally Eliabeth and Allison rush to embrace him.

That leaves one heartwarming reunion and two potential and awkward ones. Obviously Bean and his sister's meeting. Does he really need to meet his mother in person at the same time? I kind of hope Eliaveth asks Brian sister to meet him and not the other way around since I feel like his mother would sour it. Maybe a Cathy cameo, with Brian made innoncent and the shrink initiative likely being ended, maybe she reaches out to Ally to apologize and ask if she can talk to Brian and ask for forgiveness. It is curious how the Chevaliers go on with their lives. Their identities may be protected but how do they just go back to normal life. Many were probably far worse then Allison's 1,000+ killcount, they're either full blown pyschopaths or deeply broken individuals.

I'm curious if Timmy Osment's murder is a famous celebrity or the son of someone powerful like a federal judge, congressman, or billionaire. Wouldn't surprise me if Brian says he's alread been approached by a studio asking to make a documentary about his experience/case, only this time it has a positive spin on it vs what I suggested in an earlier review now that he's publically innocent.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! Don't worry, the abruptness of it will be addressed. It has a narrative purpose, so I hope you find it interesting. Also, without giving giving anything away, I wouldn't count too heavily on your anticipated flow of events. Have you no faith in my ability to surprise you?? (Kidding, of course)

I normally would respond to some of your points and questions, but it in this case all of them relate to spoilers!! So, I'll just say that I really hope you enjoy the ending. I hope I can look forward to your thoughts! I've really appreciated your continued reviews.

Hmm, how open is Allie with her therapist? Open about her abusive relationship sure. Open about being an ex-chavalier, mmm maybe? If she brings up Brian is she explicitly talking about Brian Bentley the one-inch escaped condemned, or is she talking about Bill, her boyfriend that she's had to step back from intimately since they both have issues that need to be worked out?The trio has made it to first base, I hope Allie isn't about to foolishly compromise it by being too honest about Brian. She may have already started connecting dots for her therapist if she knows she's an ex-chavalier from the Silver strip, she mentions Brian Bentley a lot, and she conveniently also had a boyfriend named Brian.

Author's Response:

So at this point in the story, Allison has told her therapist about everything except for Brian. That includes her experience as a Chevalier, but she obviously lied about why she quit. That's why she asked Brian if she could tell her about him, so she wouldn't have to lie anymore. I imagine that she told her that she recently ended a relationship, but not much more than that. And don't worry, she wouldn't risk their secret by telling someone she wasn't sure would keep it. That's why she was only now asking Brian about it, she wanted to make sure the therapist would be on board first. I'm not sure how big of a character the therapist will be, but she's definitely on the side of our heroes! I hope you enjoy what happens next.

Hurray, I get to double down on why he doesn't have to reconcile with his mother and now I'm sad. She was already a mean and neglectful parent before Brian's framing, I think there might've been a "you remind me of him" hostility towards his for looking like the father that abandoned them. The vindictive part of me wants  his reunion to go like this "Hi, I'll make this quick. This is going to be our 2nd last reunion mom. The last will be at your funeral. Don't bother contacting me, I won't get back with you." You could put a final nail in the coffin on Brian closing his heart to his mother by having Brian and the girls learn his mom got paid to be in a criminal documentary, and have her complain in her interview about Brian and say what a wierd and disturbed kid he was since the productiuon company would love to profit on the public's rabid interest in the case. Jenn of course could refuse to be in it or her interview about what a loving and compassionate brother he was could be cut out or have snarky commentary over it "On the outside, a loving brother. But there was something dark in Brian Bentley. Something twisted".

And speaking of Jen: "I promise, Jen". (Squuee) https://imgur.com/gallery/kHPxj2F

You have promised us an adorable and heartfelt reunion with his sister, who may have been the only person 100% convinced this entire time her brother was innocnet all along. I wonder if Jen still led a semi normal life after her brother's public trial. If she didn't have her identity protected she probably endured a lot of bullying and social ostracizing, especially if she argued with her taunters by saying Brian was innocent. I'm worried if she might've developed a tough shell from society and her own mother telling her brother, the closest and most loving person to her, was an evil monster. It would be sad to see their first reunion end with Jen glaring at him and blaming him for her life turning to hell before getting up and leaving. I'm curious to see where in the story Brian will be reunited with Jen. During Elizabeth's campaign to revisit the Bentley case? After he's been cleared innocent and revealed to the public but still small, or after he's fully restored? I can see Brian saying he doesn't want to see her before he's restored because he doesn't want her to see him so small and vulnerable.

Finally, is Brian's current amnesia state going to warrant him leaving Allison to be in Elizabeth's care for the time being? Even if Allison still wants to be with him and keep him there, if Elizabeth carries him out to see Allison again and he freaks out, I think Elizabeth will firmly request he stays with her. It would be an interesting "plot thickens" point if the night or day after Brian leaves for Elizabeth's place, Allison get visited by police and strange higher ups who claim to be acting on a tip on an ex Chevalier breaking SPAR protocols and smuggling out a condemned inmate.

Author's Response:

Yeah, Brian has very little motivation to reconcile with his mother. It's not like he's exactly missing their interactions prior to the conviction, after all. Fair to say that they'll reunite at some point, though, so I hope you find it interesting! There are definitely a few ways it could go. I also think that the criminal documentary is a really interesting idea! I'll have to give that some thought, so thanks!

I hope Brian's reunion with Jen lives up to your expectations! Unlike with his mother, Brian obviously has a strong motivation to see her again. As for when it will happen, though, time will tell. If you remember from chapter 12 of the first story, in the flashback between Brian and his mother in the prison, she mentions that Jen was being bullied due to the trial, and that they were both getting death threats. So she was definitely targeted, and that combined with losing her brother undoubtedly had a huge effect on her development from there.

Brian's living arrangements moving forward will be a focus very soon, so I hope you'll enjoy what happens. Elizabeth certainly won't sit still in regards to letting things continue as they have been. Thanks for reading!

So his sexual assaults during his prison years did become a mental trauma for him. I think given his size and circumstances, Allison really should stop with all the "ittsy-bitsy man" taunting, "I like making you feel trapped" and vulnerble statements, and just general sense of dominance she likes to exude on Brian when they try being intimate. Lady he had a bad reaction to just from you taunting him about his size and pushing your lips up against him and whispering "your so cute" just the other day. It should've been a little more clear that he's got bad history with forced sexual acts, and not being in control is a red flag for his psyche. He has the interest to be intimate with her, but she needs to let him be the initiator. Let him approach her body and decide the acts. We'll have to see how much of a wall of solitude Brian raises after this. If he's willing to be intimate with her again before a possible restoration, or if he can't be comfortable enough to approach her again like that without being her size equal.

Author's Response:
That's exactly right, Allison was going about being intimate in the completely wrong way. Both she and Elizabeth assumed that Brian's negative feelings were simply nerves in response to being aroused for the first time, when it was actually him starting to remember his assault. And Allison was focusing too much on what got *her* excited, which is what triggered Brian's trauma. The correct way, as you say, would be to let Brian take the lead. Unfortunately, they're realizing that a bit too late. I hope you'll enjoy how this affects the story going forward.

"She's smuggled out convicts"- Ah, I must've forgotten Cathy admitting this to Allie. That's pretty damning. It does kind of dash my old theory that the government is monitoring and studying SPAR sessions as a psychological social experiment if Cathy and likely other Chavaliers have a habit of smuggling out their victims to torture them some more. Brian Bentley should've been an exemption to this since the judicial system was bribed to get rid of him. Although if they do monitor sessions they knew Allie had a perfect track record of not breaking the rules and taking a convict home. In which case a  "Should we interfer sir?" "No, no. I want to see how far they get" plot could form. Powerful people aware of what's going on, or a system too powerful wielded by the corrupt and incompetent. I lean more and more towards the system is a powerful tool and no one competent is in charge of it. I am curious to see if Cathy learns of Brian's innocense or is convinced of it when he's regrown or still shrunken and if they meet again to see how they interact.

Author's Response:

Yeah, that was a pretty important piece of info that Cathy so casually admitted. I like your theories as to the nature of the SP, and I hope you enjoy learning what I have in mind!

It's definitely interesting to think about what a reunion with Cathy would look like if Brian's innocence is revealed. A lot could happen if his innocence is revealed to the world, but I think it's fair to say that he would be owed a lot of apologies by a lot of people, including Cathy! I hope you enjoy where we go from here.

Professor Elizabeth's hand is shown:

https://giphy.com/gifs/6agGMtS4rEVSo

I'm wondering now if she was once indifferent or encouraging of the Shrink Penalty or is part of a grander social experiment. She has to have some link to the creation or operation of the program if she's able to manipulate recruitment and, if she reveals next chapter, which prisoners go to which Chevaliers. It also seems too weak of a plan if her goal of undermining the program after "turning against it" was subjecting a student she cared for to it by nominating her and sending the most corrupt criminal case prisoner to her. Allison clearing doesn't fit the psychological profile of a Chevalier, so Elizabeth was only going to do her more harm then good sending her there as a way of getting over an abusive ex. And Allison being convinced to spare Brian, her golden ticket to challenging the system, was entirely up to chance.

If she really is an outsider to the program, then maybe she is simply a friend or aquaintence of a high up executive that wants to gain clout overthrowing the system or is simply disgusted with it. "I was not the only one on your side". It would explain how she can manipulate the Shrink Penalty system but not gain access to Brian's court documents. I think she's going to upset Brian in the next chapter by explaining how she saw an opportunity with his case to attack the system, planted the idea of Brian's corrupt case with Allison, guided her into becoming a Chevalier during her struggles, manipulated the prison to send Brian to her, and then left his life entirely up to chance. Brian actually took a huge risk calling her out since she could threaten him for potentially ruining her and her partner's plans by refusing to cooperate. I also think Cathy's life is legitimately in danger since Elizabeth is "investigating her" and can send a request to her allies to silence her or kill her in order to not endanger the plan.

Author's Response:

Yep, your suspicions were correct again! You're really good at picking up on the hints that I place here and there. This definitely creates a lot of new questions about Elizabeth's true relationship with the SP, as well as how far her influence goes. I hope you'll enjoy finding out what the truth is!

"There's no conspiracy, it's not like that". Noo, not my speculations and machinations! Kind of annoyed by Elizabeth being schocked that Allsion and Ben didn't have a plan or course of action to clear his name. Lady by your own confession you took no steps in actually helping him. The fact he's alive is purely luck.

I think Brian's fofo when things got intimate with Allison at the end, speficially someone saying into his ear "You're so cute" is hinting that he might relapse into nightmares involving when he was raped in prison in the 2+ years he was there.

Curious to see what Elizabeth plans to do with a notebook of Brian recounting the events oof the night Osment died and the shame trial he went through. I think it likely she'll partner up with political and judicial allies, passing along the notes of "Brian Bentley's testimony" or "Brian Bentley's interrogation" to a media outlet to rekindle public interest. To be even more impactful she could record an actual video interview of Brian to leak to the media. If done with a masked interviewer interacting with him it would prove he's the real Brian since only convicted murders seem to be shrunk in this society. All police and court pictures, videos, documents were sealed, so either significant public protest or something like an up and coming state/federal prosecutor looking to advance their career by exposing judicial corruption could force the case and "evidence" back open.

This does mean though that he will have to be taken from Allison and hidden at some point since the government at least knows Allison was the last person to see him alive. I want to say this this duty falls to Elizabeth but i think she might get compromised as a contact with Brian at some point as well. Unless more characters get introduced in the story, this has the potential to bring Cathy back in as a surprise dark horse.

Author's Response:

I'm sorry to spoil your speculation! I'd gone back and forth on it a few times, but I ultimately felt like going full-conspiracy would broaden the scope of the story to an extent that I'm not comfortable with. It also would give me an easy out in solving problems, as a conspiracy with that much influence could practically do everything. Like, for example, if she was part of a group that had that much influence, then why couldn't they just access Brian's case files? Can't make things too easy for me!

But yeah, with that being said, Elizabeth still obviously has some power and influence. Now that she has the information, she's not gonna sit still. I hope you enjoy where the story goes from here! I really appreciate your continued reviews and detailed thoughts.

Wow, I'm surprised you started on the sequel so soon. I can't help but feel like Elizabeth almost revealed to Brian and us that shrinking isn't permanent anymore or never was and that Brian can be restored if his name is cleared with a certain well placed quip:““Nonsense, honey,” Elizabeth responded dismissively. “You’re still you, even if you’re small. And besides, it’s not like the shrinking is-” “Here we go,” Allison interrupted."

I still can't shake the feeling that Professor Dawson knows more about the world and is moving pieces behind the scenes. If it's true that shrinking can be reversed how would she know? In her mental musings Allison believes shrinking to be irreversable and it seems odd if an ex-Chevalier wouldn't hear about it in work rumors or gossip. I could just be over-reading into the good professor's attempts at smoothing out Brian's fear and resentment. I think there's a very good chance Brian will be forced into staying alone with Elizabeth if they catch wind of authorities investigating Alison on a tip from Cathy or general government monitoring. A chance to see if there's more to her nature then pure Samaritan goodness when left alone with Brian.

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review! I'm pretty surprised myself. I hope you find it interesting, as I really appreciate your detailed thoughts!

I think you'll find that there's a lot of mystery and deception surrounding the SP. I hope you'll like how it ends up affecting Allison and Brian, as well as finding out if Elizabeth has anything to do with it!

"The shrinking is permanent" "No it isn't". Called it! So either Professor Elizabeth has a deep knowledge of the system or Allison is about to cause a crisis of faith in Brian over keeping him in the dark about restoring him. I wonder if Elizabeth's plan is to smuggle Brian back to a SPAR facility or if she knows about other shrinking chambers at research labs or government divisions.

You certainly did! Yeah, there are a lot of ways in which this knowledge could be influencing Elizabeth's future plans. I hope you enjoy finding out what happens!

Interesting, will we learn a bit of history about the world? Is shrinking caused by a past virus that pharma companies were able to study and turn into an injection to shrink people that became immune to the original wave? Or perhaps the shrinking compound was developed by governments to address growing poverty levels or population control by "lottery". Regardless it seems this world has developed a few generations of "born smalls" if Eren comes from a community with families. Tae is perhaps a rich socialite since Eren remarks how large and expensive her apartment looks so maybe she can pay to get shrink injections for her personal use while authorities look the other way. Curious to see if Tae has dark desires to abuse and dominate specks but has a conflicting nuturing desire, affection, or attraction for "born smalls". Does she balance her needs by targeting normal people abusing specks, a predator that enjoys hunting predators perhaps? Or did she have someone close who was a born small or suddenly shrunk and was killed in an awful way and she still feels guilty and obliged to help specks in need? Most people don't seem to care about speck abuse or neglect in this world so I hope we see a backstory or a confession explaining why Tae chooses to act. We'll have to see if Eren can get her to open up about her past and reveal to Eren about her activities, and if he has any impact on her continuing to be a cruel and violent hunter / protective guardian.

Author's Response:

You are right on the money with those predictions, I am glad you are enjoying the story so far!

Oh boy, Jisoo's showing some much more concerning and pronounced sociopathic tendencies these past few chapters. Or rather her consciousness is telling in detail how much she enjoys this. I'm a little worried about how it does seem to be rubbing off on Eren. But then again, maybe I've read Eren's character wrong. He may not be someone who can show forgiveness or take a "that would just make us as bad as them stance" since he wasn't able to stop himself from attacking Alice or believing she should be forgiven. It does make his acceptance of Thomas being killed though. He was a protective brother, and even when Grace probably showed him just how evil Alice was he probably had a hard time accepting it under the torture and duress he was undergoing, especially since I doubt Grace let him hang out and chat with Alice between their sessions.

I convinced the family and it's corporation is definitely hiding some much less noble and justified murders and killings in it's closet. Outside of speck concerns, they've definitely killed people to reach the point of owning and manipulating ruling leaders and parties of multiple countries and continue to maintain that hold. I'm waiting for it to simply be laid bare and done right in front of us. Jisoo technically already has done it for us, murdering a guy for throwing an insult at Eren and killing the bartender girl for not speaking up oor stopping Alice and her friend when they snatched and carried off Eren.

For a family that's supposed to feel humbled and responsible for what they did to humanity, the Amrita's seem to have a lot of members who live lavishly and people like Grace have the smug confidence of knowing they can get their way and take what they want from anyone outside the family. Are the matriarchs really allowing their kids and grandkids to abuse their influence so freely?

What if Jisoo's appetite for killing and brutalizing people is something she was trained, conditioned, or encouraged to do once she was brought back into the Amrita fold? She could easily simply be a vindictive speck lashing out for her 16 years of abuse, but the family history event where she crippled her father (not biological but purely adoptive?) and how she did feel guilt and remorse about her actions has me thinking someone in the family was subtly working on and training her to start acting on her feelings.

The mentioning of the family having "Heavenly Duties" that are still being kept from Eren until he's properly screened and indoctrinated and this divine mission that the family is working towards has that nagging devil's advocate sense for her mother coming back up. Whatever the family's end goal is I suspect it has some heavy price or extreme immoral component to it. Such that she fled from the family, stolen peaches in tow, and had a daughter with either the husband the family picked for her or some other unknown man.

She must've had some truly worthy goal if she convinced Byung-ho to not only raise and care for Jisoo but even take steps to keep the family from discovering her existence. He didn't simply take bribe money and then flush Jisoo down a toilet, but let his marriage and reputation fall apart shielding the tiny girl. I think Jisoo said in one of the chapters that her mother committed the greatest betrayal "to the family", so I'm suspicious the her mother confronted Baochai and/or Fang about their ultimate plan and killed or injured one or both of them.

It could just be to keep up public appearances letting some "reasonably young" like this Aunt Min running the public face of the family business, but neither Grace or Jisoo have addressed Baochai or Fang in a "present" tense and only talk about how it's Aunt Min who will judge and evaluate him as if she's the most senior member of the family's inner circle. As we've seen from the peaches, age shouldn't be meaningful, especially for someone with the family's unique blood so it doesn't seem unreasonable for a 150 yr old to be around and kicking. So it's very suspicious that Grace and Jisoo only talk about Aunt Min when discussing the inner family, even between just the two of them.

I'm leaning towards the family's end goal to be jump starting a 2nd Diminution event that will shrink the remainder of normal sized humans left since every person on the planet currently carries a dormant or active version of the virus. Possibly, what if the family actually manages to pull off an Inversion event? Where the 1/4 speck population gets restored while all normal humans shrink? The family matriarchs get to deal with their guilty conscious of letting half of humanity shrink and experience a drawn out century of abuse genocide. No matter what the core family gets to conveniently remain big in a world full of servants.

Touching on Maddie's arc, I'm curious about Eren and Maddie having a heart to heart talk. I wonder if Jisoo will relent about her grudge, honestly surprised she didn't try to murder Maddie for trying to slap Eren which would've killed him since she's literally killed for less. If she learns about and sees that Maddie's helped Maeve and wants to help more specks, I'm curious if Jisoo will make an appeal for her family to become a quiet investor/backer for Eureka. Helping them survive their founding Franklin invention and guiding them into doing an experiment to test how a company that helps vulnerable specks has an impact. Especially if it gets to do subtle jabs at society and open up its cracks by sharing stories or even footage of how a young speck can to lose a limb at a normal's hands.

Since it looks like we're closing in on Eren finally leaving for Asia to meet more of the Amrita clan, do you think you'll end this as a Book 1 and take a break before doing a Book 2?

Author's Response:

For clarification Byung-ho is Jisoo's adoptive father, right now nothing about her biological father has been revealed. And as always you are definitely correct with a bunch of those speculations, or at the very least in the same ballpark!

As for for the possibility of taking a break as of right now I don't foresee one and will try to upload on a weekly or biweekly basis. Obviously I can't predict the future and what will happen but I definitely want to finish this story before I begin any other projects. I won't make a separate story, but rather begin an Act 2 within the same story to keep everything together. However that does not eliminate the chances of a sequel, but if there is a sequel then it will be after Jisoo and Eren's story has been concluded. Maybe there is a chance of a short spin-off at a certain point but that is all up in the air right now. I do want to explore other story ideas but won't commit to anything until I have a clear plan established.

Thank you for the continued feedback!

Ah see this is why I don't believe in Amrita's altruism, or at least the altruistic grand design of the family Grace teases at. She really likes inflicting pain on thers and reveling in their misery and indignant rage. Thomas first words learning what Alice has done to specks "you've tried to kill someone?" should normally already be an exoneration in and of itself. Grace was more mad Clair called cute little Eren an "it" then her investigating her cousin afterall. He also immediately accepted his speck sister instead of abandoning her. Grace can't say she's just mad he tried to punch her for thinking he's his sister's attacker and kidnapper, afterall she's involved in one of them and related to the other. He seems the complete opposite of who inner family considers against their ideals. He sees specks as people and is willing to accept and protect his sister as one in-spite of knowing she's done terrible things because he gave his word to protect her.

And yet as she beat him uncounscious, she believed people like Thomas were a threat to the world her family wants. His only sin apparently being his strong independence to their idea of everything in control. If upstanding, loyal, and protective characters like Thomas are a threat to your family's vision of world peace, what exactly does that peace entail? Everyone else diminished outside the family and loyal servants allowed to be elavated? Elimination of choice and freedoms? Obey the family's will or be crushed, literally? I have a feeling the family elders have a grand dystopia they're covering up and bedazzling as a utopia while the finer elements of how they'll control the population in the name of peace are being muddled to anyone outside the circle. I'm thinking back to how Jisoo spits on her birth mother's name for ruining her grandmother's original plan and betraying the family.

Grace slips out knowing what a speak Jisoo's face looks like gazing up at a normal in anger and frustration. I don't think that was a picture or video of Jisoo. I'm thinking Grace was literally standing over her speck cousin prior to her ascension, taking the opportunity to taunt and humiliate the little girl over her plight before revealing the truth and offering her to be reborn. I'm back to wondering who exactly retrieved Jisoo from her adoptive family and revealed to her the truth of her origins, how exactly she was conditioned to join the Amrita family, and what event drove her out. If everything about how terrible her mother is was 2nd hand accounts by Grace and her extended family or experienced by Jisoo in an ill-fated reunion. Because if Grace is this sadistic and twisted while believing she's doing the familiy's will, what's the rest of the family's inner circle like and just how evil could Jisoo's mother have been?

Also I wonder if Maddie's revelation of the plight and suffering of specks makes her do a 180 on what Eureka's robotic aids are built for. If she musters the courage to apologize to Eren and tell him about her commune experience and new understanding of speck's suffering, say she has a new vision for Eureka and offer him the chance to come back; I'm curious how Jisoo reacts and if Eren just flat refuses or considers it. I wouldn't be too surprised if Jisoo pulls strings for an Amrita subsidiary to suddenly back Maddie as a new investor; either entirely out of the blue or after Jisoo calls her back privately with the investor offer if she promises to never reach out to Eren again.

Author's Response:

For Grace, she definitely feels slighted by the gall Thomas had to verbally lash at her in broad daylight. She considers it an affront to her honor and pride that he would dare do such a thing, so feels the need to put him in his place so to speak. The fact that he is a thorn in her cousin's side and his downfall would allow Jisoo to return to the fold is simply an enjoyable side benefit, her wrath is not reserved exclusively for those who mistreat specks. Rather she will crush anybody she considers an enemy to her family or herself. Amrita absolutely has grand intentions for the world, and how altruistic or noble they are will ultimately come down to perspective as it is explored later.

As for Jisoo's mother, Keqing Chen, you raise a very good point! If the future that Grace seems to desire so intensely is built upon such tactics and there seems to be shady things going on with Amrita, then what was her sin?

Oh-ho, so they threw her back up then and kept her alive. If she lost fingers, half a leg, and most of her skin looks melted she definetly had weeping wounds all over her body. Grace had to given her some high grade medicines to keep her from dying of blood loss or infection. Curious if Grace had something in mind keeping her alive, because Alice was swallowed befoer Thomas entered the picture trying to attack her for confusing her for Tae after Alice disappeared. Whatever it was she definetly has another role to play here.

Grace wants Thomas as her plaything, and really wants him at that. Maybe it's a combination of several things. Jisoo's found a little man, and her life's been improving with Eren so maybe there's some jealously on Grace's part about her cousin having a little speck entirely at her mercy but ends up becoming a couple in love with each other. All of Grace's specks so far have been normal people she's shrunken, abused, and broken. She particularly doesn't like how her victims will is broken so fast. So the bold, aggressive, and protective Thomas has caught her eye.

I wonder if the cousin's have a bet about how decent or terrible Thomas' fate goes depending on how he reacts to his little speck sister. Jisoo killed two men for mocking Eren in a restaurant and Grace's main gripe with Claire was she called her cousin's cute little boyfriend an it. Grace, Jisoo, and a team of their best guards are most likely watching a feed of the room nearby. If Thomas cradles his sister, telling her it's going to be alright, promising big bro will protect her, refusing to kill her if she begs him to just end it for her, or anything else where he treats her wll I wonder how the cousin's will react? They're probably still going to shrink him, either surrounding him and threatening to just kill them both if he won't let them syringe him or if Jisoo walks in alone and beats him down in a rematch.

By all accounts Thomas is more or less even with them. He tried to attack Grace after confusing her with the Tae knowing Tae beat his sister bloody and now Alice was missing, but Tae's already tried assassinating him once since then. So if he surrenders himself to protect Alice or gets taken down defending her, The Amarita girls will be betraying their whole self-righteous "we're going to protect all specks one day" spiel if Thomas gets shrunken and tortured protecting his newly speck sister. Claire's kind of in the same boat. She hasn't done anything noticeably terrible to specks yet other then just ignoring them, so is Grace going to taunt and boast to Thomas by revealing Claire's her little plaything as well and either kill her in front of him or finally brea her in the coming days?

I guess we'll see Madeline visit Northside at some point? See a struggling speck commune abandoned by the city and learn from their rep who steps out to ask what she wants that their generators are dead or failing, the city slashed their funding to next to nothing so no new food or barely any even for specks, and that Eren was a former resident who was among the one's forced out to stretch out the food and conserve electricity. "He didn't have to work for me, his needs were met Grandpa. Specks get all their needs met in their state of the art communes."- (Worldy grandpa gives her a hard stare). I'm curious if your setting up Madeline to realize how bad Eren's life was and try to reach out to him to apologize and ask him to come back. If you want the story setting to stay in Norwich or have Jisoo spirit Eren away to Korea or somewher in Asia. Because first Eren may be too hurt to accept her apology. And two Madeline's going to end up in Jisoo's crosshairs. She already humiliated and debased him and even tried to kill him by smacking him out of Jisoo's hand. And now she's going to risk becoming an obstacle for Jisoo to remove by stealing him or preventing him from going home with her as Jisso could see it.

Author's Response:

Thomas is at this point definitely at least even with them. Whatever slight either party has committed against the other has at that point been avenged in some way, but unfortunately neither side is willing to let bygones be bygones and walk away. And Thomas knows too much as well.

Maddie is actually from Pennsylvania (she attended Carnegie) and lives in Philidelphia, so she will most likely visit a Commune there as opposed to Norwich which is in Massachussets. But as always your predictions are very close to the mark!

Just what the heck happened during the diminishing event 100 years ago? I could understand if specks were carriers for the still active virus that would occassionally effect a normal human to shrink or pass onto a pregnancy and cause normal parents to recieve a speck baby. But one of the victims even said after she was shrunk that it just doesn't happen to people anymore. Some characters like Claire say propoganda like "Its God's punishment" but I can't see society as a whole believing that. There's the propoganda that specks are both habitual thieves stealing a fortune from regular people while also draining billions from governments. But this shouldn't be universal. The holes should be everywhere, with local politicians or economists noticing missing momey in the budgets or regular folks noticing anything of significance being stolen by a speck. Literally the only thing I can see them stealing is jewelry or random food scraps as even smartphones would be too large to make off with.

Maddie's outburst is rather strange. I understand if it's a plot device to help facilitate Jisoo to convince Eren to leave the state's with her with no community or job ties to hold him. But all of these business and tech people are literally fighting against their own interest. If it works, just keep quiet about a speck being involved as long as you can and it won't be an issue when people do find out. They'd rather reject Eren's work, which they may not even be able to replace if Eren's the only engineer who could handle the task, when the company simply won't survive if they don't release the robot now to their investors. Does Maddie really have such a contrasting personality where she wants to help the elderly and disabled while clinging to some prejudice against specks? She seems to smart to fall for the propoganda, so what's her personal issue with specks?

Technically robotic research and implementation is further ahead in Asia then in the US. If Eren's acceptance into Amrita goes well, will we see him allowed to join or develop a branch in robotics? It would be an amusing twist if Eureka recovers from throwing him out, only for Amrita or a company owned by them to invade the market with a better robot with Eren as a public face of the company as a speck. Maddie can't boo-hoo us with how hard she's worked and how much she just wants to help people while being a hateful supremacist. I'd like to see her fail now, especially if it happens while she sees Eren suceed. She did try to strike him and Jisoo's killed for less so I worry Jisoo or an aid might act before we have a chance to see Maddie lose her company normally

Author's Response:

A lot of characters have very different beliefs about The Diminution, which is how I think it would be if it were to happen in real life, especially if it was theoretically something not obviously explained or agreed upon by the big thinkers of the world. Some characters believe that it was a form of divine punishment definitely, while others subscribe to other theories popular with different scientiests, like it was a virus, or some kind of cosmic effect that we don't possess the technology to detect/observe just yet. Claire is not indicative of the entire world's population and what they believe though, your right. Most prejudices against specks are based off propaganda and years of lying and predisposed bias against specks, which blinds people to reality. Not so different from real life bigotry which isn't based off fact but rather stereotypes which while easily disproven still exist.

For Maddie, it's more about whether or not investors would accept the product. And she is a very honest person by nature who doesn't like lying, but she is still a very alruistic woman. Just like many people who are charitable in some ways but bigoted in others, I would say she's more 'flawed' than 'contrasting'. It's definitely possible in this world to be by all means a 'good person' by most people's standards, but still dislike specks which begs the question of what really defines a good person.

Ultimately a goal of this story is to demonstrate how pointless and senseless bigotry is, but how even if easily disproven it still remains pervasive and why that is, which is why I love reviews like this one which focus on the human element of the characters, the flaws they have and investigate why seemingly great people like Maddie would have a pitfall. I think outside of the gts elements of the story it's a good thing to think about!

I hope Jisoo knows from personal experience during her youth as a speck that you can't hear a speck's cries from inside someone's shoes, let alone four of them, especially when a fellow speck is standing right on the other side of it. Otherwise that was way too risky of a move for Jisoo. Even with the context that they were normals who murdered a speck in front of Jisoo and deserved to die, in the end Eren's still witnessing or at least carrying the knowledge that his girlfriend kills people who are just like him (in terms of size). Not only that, but she gets off on her murders. She'd also have to explain how the normal humans are now specks.

Then there's all the talk of leaving the states and traveling back to Korea and Asia in general. I'm curious if it's Korea first if the country went from specks are people, just not respected or equals from Jisoo's youthm to full equality like Singapore (not sure which countries Amrita influenced for full equality). I'm still harboring suspicions about the altruism of Amrita. I'm convinced the grandmother and great-grandmother played a role in the diminishment event a century ago and are still making calls handed down to women like Aunt Min. They want to fix this broken world as Jisoo believes, but I'm certain they had a hand in turning millions or billions into specks. It's why I'm going to be angry if Jisoo brings Eren before one of these matriarchs to claim him as her partner, and they act imperious or uppity. An "Are you sure? You can do better as a true blood heir dear.". Instead of graciously accepting him into the fold and apologizing for the life he's endured as a speck.

Author's Response:

For Jisoo in this particular instance, she gets off on the thrill that comes with how risky it is in addition to the usual pleasure she exacts from hurting people she considers to be awful. Also to add on to your point if Eren found out, in a way he helped her kill the people she had in her shoes since she decided they wouldn't die until Eren made her scrunch her toes together (of course she probably would have killed them anyways) when she came.

So slight correction, Jisoo intends on returning to her family roots based in Singapore, not Korea which was originally her home before she 'ascended'. The Diminution itself is intentionally left very vague and only bits and pieces of how it happened are provided with each chapter to paint the entire picture, so the motivations that these matriarchs have in the modern day will be very interesting indeed since not everything is known just yet!

Hmm, I actually want to speculate and play the devil's advocate that there might be enough grey area stuff on Jisoo's mom revealed so far that maybe Jisoo has her pinged all wrong and what she went through as a baby was done to protect her. We learned that China and Singapore have full rights for shrinkies and Korea seems to have something similar or at least far above the American system, which I suspect is somewhat related to being power bases of the Chen Family/Amarita Company. I'm still suspicous that the family Matriarch Baochia Fang is still alive and kicking and her guilt over possibly having a hand in the Dimunition virus over 100 years ago is driving the Amarita Company to flex some of their political pawn power to give the surviving generations of specks some human dignity back.

Anyway what if Jisoo's mom shrunk Jisoo with the serum shortly after having her and leaving her with her trusted friend or actual father of the child, Byung-ho, in Korea where specks had some decent rights because she feared some kind of power struggle between her and her siblings, cousins, and nieces/nephews was coming up? Byong-ho literally chose to keep Jisoo instead of flushing the speck down the toilet like his wife demanded under threat of leaving him and it ruined his life and reputation in the process so he had to have known about Jisoo's shrinking and a desperate plea to protect an infant from her mother would likely carry more wight under so much pressure then a vague threat. Until we get some of the missing crucial details I'm willing to doubt. Shrinking her daughter and abandoning her just seems to be way too random and likely to fail to be part of an organized scheme or plot. It carries the taste of being a sudden desparate move to hide her daughter from someone.

Such as 1. Who was it that approached little speck Jisoo to tell her who she really was? 2. Why does her adoptive father and sister hate her and see her as a monster? 2.5. Are they still alive? 3. Did she see her mother commit atrocious acts or get coerced into participating, or is it all relayed stories from Grace and her othe family members?

The quickest way to prove her mother is an evil bitch is to make her the one who shows up one day to tell the truth to little speck Jisoo and offer the chance to rejoin normals, at a price. the price being to prove herself, her loyalty to a mother she's onyl just met. The best way? Kill another speck. Maybe kill a random one before being given an immortality peach or special syringe. Or be restored and held at gunpoint under threat of being shrunken again and personally crushed by her mother if she doesn't crush a speck. Maybe to really hammer it in her mother shrinks Byung-ho and Tae and orders her to kill one or both of them.

I'm debating this extreme reunion being possible since Jisoo kind of gives statements about Tae in the past tense that give me a red flag about ehr already being dead. She talks about how much she respects and admires Tae, but in the past tense and if you respect someone so much you take their name when immigrating to America why would you act like respecting them is something "in the past".

Finally what if Jisoo never actually met her mother? What if Aunt Min or a famly member tracked her down somehow after her mother died at their hands and were either altruistic enough to restore her and take her under their wing or ordered by an elder like Baochia Fang to do so? Maybe it's because I've got some misgivings about the family since I still think Fang was around in the past to have a hand in the Dimunition virus and Grace show how casually the family corrupts governments and whimsically murders anyone and everyone whose a mild hinderance, but I think the family's got some much shadier and malignant things going on. They weaponized the shrink virus into a newly active serum dammit! What if she was given the family account of how the black sheep daughter tried to ruin or setback poor Great Grandma's super humane world takeover scheme?

Somebody conditioned security executive Jisoo to be an assest for the company, particulary her sexual pleasure she gets when torturing a shrinky. Given that Grace also enjoys tormenting shrinkies, I'm not ruling out tht Jisoo got some conditioning to see the bad in her mother and ignore it in her other famiyl member. Until we get more storytime alongside Eren or some more past reflection inner monologues straight from Jisoo about things her mother did and why her adoptive sister called her a monster and doesn't speak to or see her anymore, I'm willing to suspend ruling in that her mother is the monster that made her.

P.S. I'm having a bit of confusion understanding whose who in the family tree given it seems to be very multinational and with some possibly perpetually young=ish members because there's one line that describes Jisoo's mom as "the daughter of the woman who changed the world" and another as "witch that tried to destroy everything my grandmother and Grace's great grandmother did to fix it". Is Baochia Fang Jisoo's grandma and Grace's great-grandma or were you describing two different women. Because of the immortality peaches I can see some age shenanigans going on like Jisoo's mom being able to wait an extra 20-30 years to have her daughter since Grace is supposedly the 4th generation to Jisoo's 3rd but they are around the same age.

Author's Response:

Very interesting hypotheses! You'll have to see but you are on the right track. So without delving into too much spoiler territory, to clarify the Chen/Fang family tree I was describing two different women. One of whom, Baochai Fang is Grace's great-grandmother. The other woman in question is her sister; Jisoo's maternal grandmother. Min Chen is one of Baochai's several grandchildren.

The family tree I think right now is especially confusing because neither Jisoo nor Grace have stated many family members names aside from Min, and the actual age of many characters has also not been revealed either but that information will all be provided later to make it more clear.
