A few days had passed since the tanker had gone missing. Those in charge of searching for it scoured the open sea relentlessly, hoping to find any sign of where it may have gone down. To their luck, some of the ship’s debris were still floating above the water line, helping aid them in pointing to the area it most likely sank.
Leading the search was a single massive cargo ship, designed for salvage and rescue operations of maimed vessels. Alongside it for added security, were a dozen small craft, each carrying a trained team of divers, as well as armed security forces. Those leading this operation seemed to have an air of secrecy and espionage about them, taking care to keep everything going on as hidden as possible.
The first diving team of 12 descended past a depth of 700 feet before catching site of the sunken wreckage. At around 750 feet down, they could vaguely see the silhouette of the aft half of the tanker, the front disappearing into the void beyond. The leader of the dive team began to signal the surface teams of their discovery before diving further down.
A sigh of relief could be heard from many of the suits and professionally dressed men on the cargo ships bridge, the news giving them hope. With a steadfast and resolute go ahead, the support dive teams were deployed alongside a few drone subs to venture beyond to help search for the ships front section.
Several hours passed, everything seemed to be going swimmingly as the dive teams inspected and hauled away undamaged crates and canisters. Those that were damaged were photographed and recorded for future testing.
Not much further away from the aft’s wreckage, one of the subs came upon a massive cliff underwater, the depth beyond dropping well below 10,000 feet. those controlling the drone came to the conclusion to risk one of their expensive drones, for the sake of finding the other half of the tanker.
Its descent was slow and gradual, but beyond that was a dull wait of looking at endless ocean.
After another hour, the drone finally reached the floor, the monitors back on the surface occasionally flickering on the monitors as the signal fought to reach them. *flick* the drone sounded as its front search light activated, illuminating the dark ocean floor for all to see.
In the distance, only a few hundred feet away, the drone’s operators cheered with joy. The front of the tanker had been found! Those cheers rapidly faded however when the drone approached it.
Something had ripped through its entire frame, as if it were a chick hatching from an egg.
Before the drone operators could contact the cargo ship, their drone suddenly went silent, the signal cut off.
The drone in question merely hovered in place, its light continuing to shine. “hmmm? What’s this thing?” a loud deep voice echoed through the water. Suddenly a pair of clawed webbed hands descended upon the drone, plucking it between claw tips, carful not to damage it, “I’ve never seen a fish like this before?”.
as the drone’s light shifted, the face of Mako came into view. But something was off, Mako while large before compared to a human, was now insanely huge. In fact, she was just around 1200 feet long now from head to tail fin. An astonishing difference from her size just days ago.
“hmm, I guess there’s only 1 way to find out~” mako smiled before tossing the drone into her mouth. *CRUNCH!* the drone compressed between shark like teeth, many of which, much larger than even a great white. *BOOM* the drones circuitry exploded, not even making a blemish on the foot-thick enamel.
“hmm its rather bland, maybe theirs a bigger one nearby that could have more flavor” Mako said to herself, her brain jumbling around ideas on what to do. “hmm, everything I’ve hunted so far was mostly just strange looking krill, maybe if I head closer to the surface, I’ll find better game!”.
With that said, Mako nodded in agreement with herself, her muscles flexing and bulging as she knelt down. *THOOOOOOOM* the ground beneath her shattered, her powerful tail propelling her thousands of feet in mere moments.
Before going to far though, she suddenly caught site of more of the same strange fish, scouring the wreckage of the ship she had ventured into days earlier. “Oh! How interesting!” she thought, quickly using her arm muscles to adjust her direction before carefully propelling herself towards the shipwreck.
Back on the aft section of the ship’s wreckage, around 30 divers were preparing whatever they could salvage for ascent. The lead diver seeming to have a chill run through him as he tightened the last rope.
“OH! YOU FISH LOOK SO CUTE!” a loud distorted voice rumbled. Turning around as quickly as he could, the dive leader went pale. Just a few hundred feet from where he and the others swam, a goliath of a sea monster swam menacingly closer. The only thing his mind processing in the moment, DANGER.
Mako couldn’t help but grin with excitement, a small school of strange fish was scouring the ships wreckage, completely unaware of her presence. She picked up more and more speed as she barreled towards them faster and faster, but quickly halted her advance when she was just a few hundred feet away. Upon closer inspection, these ones were completely alien in form, they reminded her of some type of black mobile starfish. The only sound in her mind being the sqeeuing of a schoolgirl, “OH! YOU FISH LOOK SO CUTE!” she shouted aloud, completely ruining her element of surprise.
The strange starfish like creatures suddenly halted their work, taking a few moments to look at Mako before rushing around in a panic. Many suddenly began swimming as fast as they could upwards, hoping to reach the waters surface, while the rest seemed to pull out various tiny metal sticks and held their ground.
“what weird fish? I’ve never seen a starfish swim up before, nor have I seen one use tools?” Mako said, confused by the show before her. “hmm, lets have a closer look!”.
As she drew closer, the strange starfish like creatures that held their ground began to break off one by one. Only a few still standing their ground by the time she was upon them. “they’re even cuter up close!” she screeched, her voice shaking the sea all around.
After a long 30 seconds of holding his ground, the lead diver realized to late just how massive this monster was. Before he could fire his harpoon gun, he witnessed the full form of the behemoth like monster come into view. “THEYRE EVEN CUTER UP CLOSE!” the monster screeched, her words sounding human yet alien. Once she seemed to drop her guard though, the lead diver and a couple of the others who also stood their ground fired.
*PING*
The special tungsten tipped harpoon crinkled upon impacting her stomach, grinding away between her abs. the other harpoons did similar, one of which hitting her in the naval and lodging itself within.
Mako was taken by surprise, but more so with fascination rather than concern. “WOAH! You guys can shoot stuff with your metal sticks? You must be some kind of advanced sea race!” Mako chimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
In a frantic moment of desperation, the dive leader and the others attempted to reload their harpoons. An act that should take full concentration to do.
*SHRIIIP*
A cloud of red began to slowly waft out of the arm of one of the divers. His panicked state causing him to slice himself with the head of the harpoon. Before he could use the special bandages to seal the wound, a loud gurgle began to roar through the water.
“MMMMMMMMMMMMN, i- I don’t know what this smell is, but its making me really, REALLY, HUNGRY!” Mako shouted, her excited expression rapidly turning into one of a mindless predator. The next thing the divers knew, Mako’s massive jaws were outstretched all around them, not even getting a moment to process what was happening before her jaws slammed shut.
