Story Notes:

If anyone is interested, I reposted this story under my new penname, EmmyYanson, under the title, "The Devil Dome." I made a few changes, primarilly to the second chapter, and plan to continue the story! Thanks for all the kind reviews it gave me motivation to keep going with it.

This story contains male giants. Compared to most stories on here this one will probably be pretty PG. I give it an R rating mostly for free use of the f word, and quite a bit violence thrown it. This is my first story on here so if you like it please comment!

The long descent down the dungeon corridor was never a lonely one. Noises erupted from every angle. Some were screams and cries of unimaginable demonic creatures. Some sounded almost human. Those were the most unsettling.

Even through the think cloth tied tightly across her eyes, Juniper sensed that this was the deepest she had ever been taken. After a while the screams ceased, and they continued in silence as they plunged deeper, still. Finally the guard came to a halt. She heard the distinct rattling of keys and waited patiently. Next came a soft click followed by a loud grinding as a heavy iron dragged across a stone floor. The guard tugged on her rope and followed obediently through the doorway. The guards always kept themselves in front of her, even with her hands bound securely behind her back.

The guard unceremoniously yanked the blindfold off of her, allowing her to study her new surroundings. The cell she found herself in was the largest she’d been in yet. The walls spread widely in all directions and the ceiling stretched up to around a hundred feet high. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as she tried to imagine the size of her new roommate if it required such a large environment.

The guard untied the rope that he had used to guide her before backing out of the cell without a word. He left the handcuffs on her.

Juniper turned in a full circle, taking in her new temporary home. She froze temporally when her eyes reached the farthest wall, where there hung a massive set of chains. She shuddered and looked away. There was no bed, which she was used to. There was, however, a thick sort of carpet that spread across a good chunk of the floor. She knelt down and stroked the surface. It was somewhat soft, which would be a nice change from sleeping on solid concrete. Although she never really slept. No one ever really slept there.

She made herself comfortable on the carpet and waited anxiously for her new roommate to be brought in. It wouldn’t be long, now.

It felt strange to be alone. It had been so long since she had been by herself for any long period of time she barely remembered what it was like. The closest thing she ever had to solitude was when she was running for her life in the hell that they had mockingly dubbed The Righteous Games. But she didn’t want to think about that now. Since she was receiving a new roommate she would not be put in the Games for a couple of days at least. That did not mean she was safe, however. Most deaths within the facility occurred outside the Games.

As time passed she grew more apprehensive. The mammoth chains on the wall behind her became more menacing. The ceiling expanded higher and higher. She became ever more aware that her hands were still bound behind her back. And although she new she could breakthrough the handcuffs rather quickly if necessary, it still took a good couple of seconds which she might not have if it came to a sudden fight.

In order to prepare for such a scenario, Juniper focused her energy down her right arm and into her hand. From her hand into just her finger, which she bent as far backward as possible until it made contact with the handcuff. She very carful let out a small beam of light from her finger. She held it for a couple of seconds, stopping it before the metal got too hot. She let it cool down for a minute before repeating the process. She was not trying to break them. If she broke them the guards would just put new ones on her, or else chain her to the wall. For now she saw across from her a regular sized set of chains. So she would keep the handcuffs on, but just weaken them enough to where she could snap them apart quickly if she had to.

Juniper was in the process of reheating the metal for a forth time when she heard footsteps from the corridor. She hastily cut off the ray of light just as the face of a guard appeared in the small barred window in the door. She quickly got to her feet and backed into the wall before the guard gave the order.

He pushed the door as far as it would go and rushed around to hold it open. Two men entered, supporting an unconscious body between them. Juniper relaxed slightly when she saw the figure was not nearly as frightening as the one in her imagination had been. He looked so normal, in fact, that had it not been for his shaggy hair and clothes she might have mistaken him for one of the guards. The two men deposited him roughly on the hard floor, and turned to make their leave. On the way out one of the men glanced over to Juniper and winked. She glared at his retreating back but kept her mouth shut.

She waited until the sound of their footsteps had disappeared completely before cautiously approaching the motionless body. She was surprised to see how young he was. He appeared to be no older than eighteen. She noticed that he was not bound in any way, and that calmed her down a little. If the guards thought he were too dangerous they would have kept him restrained while transporting him, even while he was unconscious.

She bent closer to study his face. A fresh bruise was forming over his right temple. Other than that he seemed generally unscathed. She couldn’t help but marvel at how innocent he looked as he slept, but she knew better than to let her guard down. She had encountered more than one inmate who looked completely normal until they revealed some grotesque mutation or powerful hidden ability. Juniper, herself, for example.

She distanced herself from the sleeping form and went back to heating and reheating her handcuffs. She had almost weakened the right one enough to where she was satisfied when the boy groaned.

He sat up slowly, clutching his temple. He look around the room groggily until his eyes fell on her. Her presence did not seem to surprise him or alarm him in any way.

“Where am I?” he muttered groggily.

Juniper was not sure how to respond, so she remained silent. When she did not answer he continued to peer around. His gaze froze on the giant chains. Something like confusion passed over his face. Then his eyes widened. Juniper looked curiously from the chains back to the boy, but was surprised to see that he was now standing and she jumped to her feet as well.

The boy looked around frantically from the ceiling to her to the floor, back to the ceiling. Juniper took a step back. She couldn’t figure out why he was acting so peculiar. She looked back at the chains. What did he know that she didn’t know? She wondered if the guards were going to bring in something else. She had never known them to assign three roommates to each other, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t possible.

The boy suddenly dropped to his knees. He leaned forward until his forehead rested on the floor and wrapped his hands around the back of his neck. Juniper glanced back towards the door, hoping to see a guard in the window who might know what was going on. There was no one.

She suspected he might be having some sort of seizure. She looked desperately towards the door one more time, then slowly drew nearer to him.

“Hey, buddy... are you ok?” She asked hesitantly.

“I’m good,” the boy mumbled. The words sounded painful. “You’re going to want to get back, though.”

Juniper did not move. The boy brought his hands down to his face and cupped his forehead agonizingly.

“Has um... has this happened before?” she asked.

He nodded his head back and forth in his hands.

“Can I do anything to help? I took a class in first aid... once...” she offered.

    “No. Just... seriously get back.”

Juniper took a step back and watched helplessly as the boy writhed in pain. She heard a sound like something ripping and looked down to see a tear running down the length of his shirt. She watched it in confusion, but before she could say anything about it the boy ripped it off over his head and threw it aside.

He sat up and shakily tried to stand.

“H-hey... uh buddy you probably shouldn’t try and move.” She said.

His hands shook as he pulled off one shoe and then the other. Then he weakly fumbled to undue his pants.

“What the hell are you doing?” she said, alarmed.

“Won’t fit...” was all he could manage. His pants did appear uncomfortably tight. He pulled them down and stepped clumsily out of them. Stripped down to just a pair of boxers, he collapsed to his knees once more.

Unable to just stand there and do nothing, Juniper rushed forward and knelt beside him. Quickly, and without much difficulty, she pulled her bound hands to the ground and stepped over them. Now that her hands were in front of her she reached out and touched his shoulder.

“Jesus Christ, you’re burning up,” she muttered. “We have to get you-”

The words were lost in her throat. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. His skin was... moving even as she watched. It was... expanding. She yanked her hand back.

She looked over him and now saw that his whole body was expanding.

“You’re growing,” she said. “You’re growing?” She looked back at his face, which nodded into his hands again. It was hard to judge while he was hunched up like this, but it looked as though he’s already grown more than a foot.

She looked over his discarded clothing and then back to him. “how- how big will you get?”

“I don’t know, fucking big,” he groaned.

She looked towards the door and then back to him. He had almost doubled in size now. “Like twenty feet?” she offered. “Fifty?”

“I don’t know” he grumbled. “I’ve never measured myself in feet. Taller than this ceiling, I know that.”

Juniper’s mouth opened stupidly as she looked up at the ceiling.

    “How much taller?”

“Guuh you ask a lot of questions. A lot taller. Which is why I keep telling you to get fucking back.”

He was growing at a faster rate, now. As she watched his body expanded another yard into the air. She took a step back.

“What are you like a- like a giant or something?” she stammered.

“You got it,” he said dryly.

“Oh my god,” she muttered. “Oh my God!” She looked up at the ceiling again. She had never met a giant before, but she thought they got up to around 180-200 feet tall. Finally she took his advice and put as much distance between the giant and herself as she could. She did not know a lot about giants but she had heard they tend to be very violent. Some more so than others.

Franticly, and while he was still distracted, Juniper went back to weakening her handcuffs. Her heart beat painfully against her chest as she worked to get them off. She had been forced into combat with many different types of monsters. The largest one she guessed to be about 80 feet high. She had had to focus all of her energy into both hands, then merged the two rays of light together to create one powerful beam, but that didn’t even kill it. It had taken every ounce of energy she had just to stun the beast, and this giant will be twice that size at least.

The sound of something tearing filled the air again. Juniper looked up and then down again rapidly, her face burning brightly as the giant’s last article of clothing floated to the ground.

Something searingly hot scorched her wrist, causing her to jump. “Shit,” she whispered. She had accidentally burned a hole right through the handcuff. She turned quickly to hide it from the giant. The element of surprise had saved her life more than once. She would need that more than ever now if she had any chance against this giant.

He was still growing at an even faster rate. She thought if he stood up now his head would hit the ceiling.

Even if I do manage to stun him, what happens then? She thought frantically. She would have to summon enough energy to deliver a second blow in the same exact spot.

But what if it doesn’t work? What if he’s not even fazed?

Just don’t let him grab you. Her eyes filled with tears and she rubbed them away angrily. More appeared, blurring her vision until she blinked and they rolled down her cheeks. Quickly she covered her face so he didn’t see. She felt weak and tired and extremely powerless.

She felt the ground shudder and she looked up over her hands to see the giant, still growing but at a much slower rate, pulling a shirt on over his head. She frowned, but then saw that what she had thought was a carpet had disappeared. She averted her eyes as he moved into a sitting position and pulled on a pair of pants. Once they were on he leaned against the wall and breathed deeply.

The shaking slowly subsided and after a couple of minutes his breathing got back to a normal pace. He still looked very pale. The cell was wide enough for the giant to sit down, but he could not stretch his legs out very far. His knees towered up into the air. Juniper stood anxiously in the corner farthest him. She waited to see if he would make a move towards her or not.
