Jasmine, continued to walk home with her best friend Annabel, who was skipping along next to her.  They both just got out of school and were heading home.  Both second graders lived in the same neighborhood as neighbors, but anyone they met swore they were more like sisters.  They did everything together and were inseparable, yet they didn’t always agree on everything.  There were little things that they couldn’t help but disagree about like what was the best TV show, or if cake is better than a cup cakes, or if buggies were real people.  These dislikes were either from their personality or how they were raised by their parents.

Jasmine’s parents, unlike most people, didn’t like to interact with buggies just because they disgusted them.  Just the sight of the small people that were about the same size of a bug gave both of them the creeps.  So Jasmine never got to see a buggy until she went to school where she learned the fate of buggies.  Due to their size and inability to communicate with the giants they were reduced down to playthings of others.  Children, pets, and even adults do what they like with them.  Some people try to defend the buggies by saying that they were real people too and could feel pain and love just like them.  Unfortunately it was a select few people who believed that and there wasn’t much they could do to help the buggies from being used.

But even with those differences Jasmine and Annabel were the best of friends.

As they were walking home Jasmine brought up the math test they just took.  “What did you get for number 5 on the math test, Anne?”

Annabel slowed her skip down to a walk to keep pace with Jasmine.  She started to shake her head letting her pig tails sway with her head.  “I can’t remember.  I think I said it was 15?  What was the question?”

Jasmine let out a sigh.  Annabel had always had a short memory when it came to school.  “It was 10 plus 6 minus 2 equals what?  I said it was 14.”

Annabel shrugged her shoulders, “You probably got it right.  I was more worried about what my mom is making for me as a snack.  I hope its bagel bites.  Hey do you want to come over and play?”

Jasmine shook her head no.  “My parents said that I needed to come home right after school.”

“Ohhh, is someone in trouble?”  Annabel teased.

“No.  They said that we needed to shop for some school clothes.”

“I guess I’ll see you in school tomorrow.”  With that being said Annabel started to skip forward when she stopped.

“What’s wrong?”  Jasmine asked.

“Look,” she said with a hint of joy in her voice.  She pointed a couple of feet in front of her and Jasmine saw what she was pointing at.  There in the middle of the sidewalk were a couple of buggies trying to cross.  “Buggies,” Annabel said with glee.  No sooner did she say that did she bend her knees and jumped with all her might.  She flew through the air a couple of feet and landed right on top of the buggies.  Annabel let out a delighted laugh when there was a crunching noise under her feet.  She then proceeded to jump up and down again and again listen to the sound of the crunching turn to more of a squishing sound.

Annabel let out a squeal of pleasure when she pointed again.  Further down the side walk were there more buggies.  They were running away in a line further down the sidewalk.  “I’m going to get you buggies!”

Jasmine watched with a sick feeling as she saw the small red puddle left by Annabel’s first victims of the day.  She continued to watch as Annabel skipped ahead to squish the rest of them.  One by one she obliterated each and every one of them.  When she crushed the last one she turned around and waved goodbye to Jasmine and headed home.  Jasmine waved back and started to head home, which was 2 more blocks down.  She looked down at the concert which had red patches on them from the victims that Annabel killed.  Jasmine couldn’t help but feel sad for them.

Jasmine continued to walk home and was almost home when she stepped on something.  There was a slight resistance and a faint yelling noise under her foot.  Jasmine jumped back as she reliazed she just stepped on a buggy.  She felt tears well up at what she just did quickly she scanned the sidewalk to see the red mess left from her carelessness when she didn’t see one.  Confused she looked more carefully when she came across the sight of what she stepped on.  In the middle of the sidewalk there were two buggies.  But there was something strange about them.  Unlike most buggies they were clothed.  Of course some people cloth their buggies so it wasn’t that strange.  They must have escaped from one of the houses.  Bending down to apologize just because it seemed like the right thing to do even if they couldn’t understand her, Jasmine squatted above them and got a better look.  There was a woman that looked to be around early 20 who was wearing a pink t-shirt with shorts, while standing over a male buggy who wore a gray hoodie and pants who was lying down injured and not moving.  Jasmine thought it was odd that none of them were reduced to a stain on her shoe, but thought it was her quick reaction that prevented this.  Opening her mouth to apologize she was instantly cut off by the women buggy who begged, “Please, help him.”

Jasmine let out a gasp at those words for one reason, buggies couldn’t talk…
