I looked around unaware of what was just happening, all I
remember was being pinched by something and then that was it, lights out.

And now I find myself tied to a wall upside down, my hands
are free but my ankles are tied to the purple metallic ceiling, I look around
and notice that I’m right above what looks to be a human.

Being a giant I expect the human to run away in fear but he
seemed as though he was asleep, soon I realized that I was slowly being brought
down closer and closer to the human.

I panicked, as my face was a mere metre away from him I
watched as he wiggled and slowly woke up, before I hit him I pulled my self
slightly up and leaned to the right of him.

He screamed as he saw my face slam down right next to him, I
felt bad for scaring him but I couldn’t have killed him.

This was the closest I had ever been to a human, there
aren’t much or us giants left and it is said the human detest us, but I was
never sure why, we were exactly the same but just taller and stronger.

I decided to keep my breaths light as I was so close to the
human he probably didn’t like me breathing on him; he looked around and smacked
himself on the face before looking at me wide eyed and running to a close
corner of the small room.

“Hey look buddy, I’m not going to hurt you” I said not
realizing how loud my voice echoed in the small room, the human flinched and I
sighed.

Just than the ropes holding my ankles were released and I
was falling my lower body going down at an angle, I was going to crush the
human if I didn’t act soon, I quickly cupped a hand over the human and fell
with a loud bang

My knee landing a mere metre from the human, I quickly
righted myself and sat up on my knees so that I wasn’t so close to the human.

I removed my hand and he was shaking rapidly, and his face
had turned pale white, damn it I scared him again if only he knew that I was
doing this to help him.

“I’m sorry I scared you” I whispered this time and he
flinched again at hearing my voice, my dad was right humans are hopeless they
never come to reason with things.

I sighed and decided trying to win the human over was
hopeless so instead I rested my head against the wall and fell asleep.

“GIANT!!!” I heard from the right side of me, I shake my
head until I was awake and looked around, it was then I realized I was still in
the room.

“GIANT!!!!” he yelled again and I looked down at where my
hand was resting, he was a few feet from it but it dwarfed him so, he would
have been the size of my index finger or smaller maybe but it fascinated me
that you could have such small organs and still function.

“What?” I whispered still kind of drowsy, he backed away and
looked at the ground.

“Excuse me, human? What’s wrong?” I asked again and at the
word human he looked up, but soon he back away so much so that his back was
pressed against the wall.

“You have to have a reason for waking me? Last I saw you
were scared of me and now you have the courage to wake me? What’s gotten into
you?” I asked making sure the sarcasm drooled so that it was a lighter
conversation starter.

He didn’t respond, I rolled my eyes “And my name isn’t giant
either” I said now getting kind of annoyed with him.

“You don’t consider yourself human?” he asked so quietly I
could barely hear him; I looked at him wide eyed.

“So someone wants to talk now” I said looking down at him I
tried a smile but he didn’t respond.

“In answer to your question, I don’t classify myself as
small, arrogant, ignorant and pea brained so no I don’t think of myself as a
human” I answered smartly, he looked hurt but soon recovered with anger.

“I’M NOT THE SMALL ONE! YOU’RE THE FREAK! I’M NORMAL AND IM
NOT ARROGENT, IGNORENT OR PEA BRAINED!!” he yelled stepping forward a bit, I
let my mouth drop in shock, didn’t see that one coming.

“Wow ok little guy I get it I’m sorry, I’ll try not to hurt
your ego so much next time” I scoffed and he, growled? Wow that was weird.

“What’s your name?” I asked kindly with a cheesy smile
trying to piss him off which worked.

“WHY WOULD I TELL YOU!!” he yelled up to me, I smiled.

“You don’t have to yell I can hear you perfectly fine” I
said and his face went a little red.

“Dude it’s fine I get it, you have never been around a giant
before, it’s cool” I said trying to calm him down.

“Ok I’m Jack” I said pointing my index finger for him to
shake it, he didn’t understand so I gave him a hint.

“You’re supposed to shake it and tell me your name” I
whispered sarcastically with a smile.

He stepped forward slowly and grabbed the tip of my finger
with both hands, it sent goose bumps through my body, and he was finally
beginning to trust me.

“I – I’m Luke” he said looking up and meeting my eyes, I
smiled a real sincere smile and he slightly smiled back.

“There see we just got off on the wrong foot” I said and he
looked down.

“Ok first I don’t know how I got here, second whoever put me
here is obviously trying to make me kill you because they let me drop right
above you, and I saved you by the way. Third I like you and hate that your
scared of me, fourth I’m sorry I scared you in the first place because it gave
you a reason to hate me, and last do you still hate me?” I asked taking in a
deep breath, I wanted us to get to know each other a lot better.

He looked at me at those words and shrugged “I – I hate all
giants” he stated and that hurt me.

“Why?” I asked flatly and he began shaking again “You – you
eat people and destroy homes and innocent people” he said bringing a tear to
his eyes.

I was taken aback by this statement “Ok first where in the
world you heard a stupid thing like that, and second why would I want to….. Eat
or destroy you?” I asked wanting or demanding an explanation.

“YOU KILLED MY SISTER!” he burst and I looked at him in more
shock “Ok, no I didn’t, why are you accusing me of doing it, I haven’t been
anywhere near a human civilization my whole life and you wanna know why?
Because I was scared to death of you” I said almost angrily.

“FINE IT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN YOU BUT YOUR KIND DID IT!” I
couldn’t believe what he was saying, this was so unfair and racist.

“Ok what if I said you killed my dad and you said you didn’t
but I said that it was you humans that did it, would that be very fair because
as far as I know there are many different types of people good and bad” I
explained to him and he started crying.

“Hey I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it I was just explaining to
you how that made me feel being accused of something that someone else did” I
said and he cried louder.

“I – I know – your right – I’m – I’m sorry that was –ah
unfair of me” he said wiping away a few tears and looking up at me.

“Jack I’m so sorry, forgive me?” he asked almost whimpering.

“I feel like a jerk, but sure I’ll forgive you, do you still
hate giants?” I asked.

He paused for a moment and hesitated “Um not all of them….”
He said and I rolled my eyes.

Just then the room expanded and I was able to stand so I did
and stretched out my aching muscles, I stopped realizing I was stretching to my
full height; I looked down at the diminutive human cowering in the corner.

I shrugged trying to convince myself that he liked me and he
wasn’t afraid, stupid me.

I looked around and found that there was a passage way now
leading to an open area, I looked back at Luke and smiled. “Look, a way out” I
said and he looked where I was pointing, he soon smiled to and ran in the
direction.

I followed after but found each of my steps caused Luke to
trip and fall with every foot fall.

“Shit! I’m sorry, I’ll try walking lighter” I said down to
him but he ignored me and kept running, it was a fair way away and I was
surprised he was still running.

After a few more steps I over took him and he collapsed on
the floor, I stopped and kneeled down above him.

“It’s ok little buddy I’ll take you” I said plucked him off
the floor and into my palm.

He seemed unconscious but was still breathing thank god, I
walked with him carefully into the open area, it was a field or more a back
yard, I noticed there was a tiny playground, a tiny table and chair and a small
square house but nothing was my size.

I frowned and placed Luke near the small house on the grass,
it was then that I realized something, this had to be some kind of challenge or
test, but what were they trying to prove? That we could live peacefully
together? Or that there was no way we could live together? I was going to find
out.

I sat down on the dirt and waited for my little friend to
wake up, about an hour later he stirred and sat up on his elbows, the first
thing he noticed was the house and then shivered as he realized I was there,
maybe he was shivering because he was cold, because I was casting a pretty huge
shadow over him and the house.

“What it this?” he asked and I shrugged “Don’t know too big
to investigate” I said now acting bored and leaning my arm on my knee and my
head on my hand as I watched him get up.

He walked into the house and it was then that I realized
something fun I could do, and so after about half an hour of waiting for him I
put both hands on the roof of the small house and lifted it with little effort,
I then placed it on the grass next to me.

I looked in and saw Luke cowering under a tiny table “Sorry
I got impatient” I stated and he gulped and stepped forward “You’ll put it back
though right?” he asked and I nodded “What’s in there?” I asked and he walked
over to a rectangular box.

“It’s the fridge it’s full of food” he said and pulled out something
and began eating it, my stomach growled and Luke jumped literally a foot in the
air.

He began shaking “You – you hungry?” he asked and I clutched
my stomach “Um …… yeah but I’ll be fine” and with that my stomach let out
another loud growl, Luke dropped his food.

“Take – take what you want” he said pointing to the fridge
“That wouldn’t be fair on you” I stated and he shrugged nervously.

“Well ok then…. Um can you open it for me?” I asked still
clutching my stomach; he opened it than backed away.

I lifted the box up and studied the contents; I pulled a
draw in it open and grabbed a few pieces of vegetables and fruit making sure
there was enough for him to. I then picked up a few chunks of meant and
swallowed them to also making sure there was still enough for him.

I placed the box back and he investigated it “You left
practically all of it” he said amazed “well I didn’t want you to starve” I said
and lied down on my back letting the food go into my stomach, slowly I began to
feel a lot better.

After a while I found I was just staring up at the clouds
and I didn’t even notice Luke approach me.

“You ok?” he asked which startled me, I slowly turned my
head and found he wasn’t cowering or anything anymore “Yeah” I whispered
knowing he was real close and I didn’t want to hurt him.

“Oh um good” he said awkwardly, I looked at him expecting
him to say more he shook his head nervously “I thought you might be sick so um I
was just checking” he said scratching the back of his neck and looking at me
innocently.

“Oh well ah thanks” I said smiling “Oh and I found a note on
the bench in the house” Luke added and I propped up onto my elbows “What did it
say?” I asked, he pulled it from his back pocket and started reading “’to the
giant and human, this as you may or may not have noticed is a test of tolerance,
you will be forced to live with each other in impossible situations and if you
both survive in the end you get but one wish to share, good luck’”

“Well we are off to a good start” I said cheerily, and he looked
at me like I was insane “what?” I asked and he shook his head “What if they are
trying to force us to kill each other?” he said now worried.

As much as I tried I just had to say it “Well I think we
both know who would win in that fight” at that statement he stepped back “I was
joking I’m sure if we were forced to fight they would make it fair” I said reassuring
him.

“Ok so what was so impossible about this situation?” he
asked and I rolled my eyes, humans, they can’t see the obvious when its right
in front of them.

I looked at him with raised eye brows until he understood “Oh
right, but it’s not impossible” he said trying to be logical.

“I think they were hoping I would get mad and do something ……..
Destructive” I said and he nodded “Oh right, right, but you’re not are you?” he
asked a little unsure “You know I hate that you still don’t trust me after what
48 hours, less? You still don’t trust me what do I have to do to earn that from
you?” I asked.

“I’m really sorry Jack, I just, have you seen yourself, your
so intimidating but yet you choose not to use your power for yourself it’s just
a little suspicious” he said not meeting my eyes.

Ok I’m not gay but don’t tell me when he gets nervous around
me and shy that it isn’t cute because it really is. And especially when he
talks about me like that it makes me feel good about myself for my giant ego.

“I don’t like hurting others, I was brought up better than
most humans, in fact I was brought up with respect and the fact that no matter
how different you are others deserve the same respect you get” I educated him,
he looked at me as if he expected more.

“Well I haven’t really given you much respect” he said shyly
again, I smiled “ok don’t get offended but I kind of expected that much from a
human” I said and he laughed “we’re not that bad”.

“Well you’re not that kind either” I said and he seemed hurt
“Hey you said before you were scared of us?” he asked moving to a different
subject.

“Oh yeah well I don’t blame you” I said sitting up now with
my legs crossed, he moved a fair way out of the way as if I would crush him.

“Explain it please” he said also sitting down so he was
comfortable, I looked down at him and saw his curiosity flash in his eyes.

I smiled and told him “Well as you have rumours we also have
rumours, ok so my grandad told me that in his time we were friends like allies,
we lived in peace until one day some king surprise attacked us, he said that
the king would come into our homes take our children and raise them to be raped
by you humans, he said that once we found out we would go to the towns and
demand our kids back but that never happened, and that was it and ever since I have
been scared that some human would come and take me away from my family” I said
with a tear coming down my face just thinking about them.

“At least you have a family” he said also looking sad and fiddling
with his hands “Not right now I don’t and this is the time I need them the most”
I said trying to make him feel better.

“But you have a chance to see your family again, I will
never I will die alone I don’t know why you don’t just kill me now” he said
hanging his head in shame.

“I would never, so you have no one to go home to when this
is all over?” I asked looking at him with pitiful eyes.

“Well no” he said a little quieter, I stood up which shocked
him but he soon recovered “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” he yelled up to me I rolled my
eyes “You don’t have to yell, but I’m gonna get us out of here and we are going
to find Mrs Right for you”.

With that said I reached for the sky and sure enough it was
fake and felt like a sheet like material, I gripped onto it and pulled it as
hard as I could and sure enough it fell down to reveal the real sky.

I looked down at Luke who was watching in awe, I smiled at
him and placed my hand on the floor palm up so I could carry him “You coming” I
said and with that he jumped on.

I stepped over the broken sky and into the real world which
just happened to be New York, humans were all over the place and I had very
nearly stepped on a few without realizing it, I stood there struck with fear.

“Jack?” I heard Luke ask, I looked at him still in my daze “Are
you ok?” he asked me looking at me full of concern, I shook my head and looked
down again noticing that people were screaming and running away from me.

“They are just people you can step over them can’t you, I mean
you are the giant” he said looking at me as if I was superman.

I gulped hard and kept my eyes on the floor as I took large
steps over the crowds of people and soon I heard what I knew I would.

“GIANT!!!!!” and screams of terror, I had to get out of here
and fast before I caused much more drama.

Once I got to the border of the city and into some clear
land I relaxed a little, but soon Luke looked up at me as if he had a question
but was ashamed to ask.

“What’s wrong did I hurt you” I asked now worried myself “Um
no I’m fine thank you but I was just wondering um where exactly are we going?”
he asked looking around us.

“Well at first I wasn’t too sure but now that I’m heading
this way I thought I may as well head in the direction of my home” I answered
and he looked unsure.

“What about me?” he asked and I stopped suddenly “You wanna
come with me?” I asked not really wanting to turn around and take Luke home,
which was pretty selfish.

He thought about this for a second but didn’t meet my gaze “look
I can take you home if you really want ……. Or well somewhere near your home” I said
not wanting to go back into the city.

“I – I think I might go with you” he said looking up into my
eyes, I smiled at him but he seemed worried or scared “What’s wrong?” I asked
again and he let a tear drop “What if your family doesn’t like me?” he
whimpered.

“They will love you, I promise, my little sister might even
take an interest in you” I said and he looked disgusted “I don’t think that
would work very well” he said but seemed a little better about the idea.

“How far away is it?” he asked drowsily, I looked at him, we
had been walking for about 3 hours and it was just in the mountains ahead.

“About 20 more minutes, it’s in the mountains” I said and he
groaned “Are you ok?” I asked and he shook his head and clutched his stomach “I
think I got a bit of motion sickness” he whimpered and I steadied my pace a
little more so it was a smoother ride.

After a while we approached the cave entrance of my home, immediately
I felt Luke wriggle nervously as we approached he seemed tense and nervous, I hope
this would turn out ok.

“Jack!!!!!!” my older brother called and I noticed Luke
cover his ears “Shhhhh” I said and he stopped in his tracks, and studied my
hand cautiously “Jack why do you have a ……. Human?” he asked stepping back a
little.

Soon my younger sister and mother came out and greeted us as
well all stopping and looking at my hand, I looked down at Luke who seemed
uncomfortable, I whispered to him so softly no one would hear but him “I won’t
let them hurt you”.

“He mum, Josh, Carly, this is my friend Luke” I said and
they looked at each other with odd glances, Mum stepped out first and extended
a finger towards Luke “Nice to meet you Luke I’m Dorothy” she said smiling at
him, he looked at me for guidance and I nodded smiling and he grabbed my mother’s
finger in both hands and shook it.

“Nice to see you home dear, I was getting worried, we will
talk about this later” with that she strode inside and me and Luke followed and
soon after Carly and Josh too.

Luke looked around our rocky interior in amazement “Would
you like a drink Luke?” mum called from the rocky make shift kitchen “YES
PLEASE!” Luke yelled and Carly and Josh laughed from behind us.

Luke blushed and figured that Mum could hear him fine
without shouting at the top of his lungs.

She got a small crystal type thimble and filled it with
fresh water and places it on the counter, I placed Luke in front of it and he
dived for the water, Mum poured me a cup and I downed mine real fast to.

Soon Josh joined us and sat opposite Luke just staring at
him, soon once Luke turns to face me, Josh extends a finger and pushes Luke
over roughly; I scowl at him and extend a finger to help him up.

“So tell me human, why my brother has brought you here?” he
asked bored, Luke starts shaking and stutters at the intimidating face of my 25
year old brother.

“You puny humans, cowards” he scoffs and rolls his eyes,
Luke takes a few steps towards me but thinks for a moment, he then slowly, not losing
eye contact with my brother, walks towards him.

He extends a hand up towards Josh and says proudly “My name
is Luke, I’m a scientist at New York, I was captured and forced to survive with
your brother in return we became friends and we promised each other no harm” he
said.

Josh looked at me “Is this true?” he asked darkly, I nodded “You
fool, you had a chance to kill this squirt and you declined it!?” once again
Luke covered his ears as my brothers thunderous voice echoed throughout the
cave.

I saw his hand turn into a fist and without thinking I reached
over and snatched him up safely out of the reach of Josh just as his fist hit
the rock where Luke had been standing with a thunderous clap.

He curled up inside my hand and I could feel the tears
seeping into my flesh as he started crying, but I wasn’t going to let Josh see
to add to his bad ego today.

“Josh!” Mum scolded “Be nice to our guest, I’m sure Jack has
a reason to trust a human such as this one” she said eyeing me now.

“I don’t think of humans as obnoxious pets like you do, I think
it is unfair to distinguish all humans as being the same in personality and
racism, but that’s like saying that all giants eat people and destroy cities
when obviously that isn’t true, I have given this human a chance and he has
proven himself as an equal, the only difference between us is size” I explained.

“He’s right” Carly said taking my hand that held Luke and
dragging it down to the table “I want to apologize” she said looking guilty.

I opened my palm and Luke looked up at me with a grateful look,
I let him walk off and Carly started to cry “I’m so sorry, please forgive me”
she whispered. Luke sat down and looked up at her soft green eyes.

He dodged out of the way of the tear drops and extended his
hand “I forgive you, and I want to apologize in the name of my people, us human
are sorry for all we have done to hurt you” he said.

“Apologizing won’t bring Dad back!” Josh yelled and ran out
of the cave.

The room was filled with an awkward silence until I felt
Luke pulling on my finger, I looked at him “Oh um what happened to your dad?”
he asked almost innocently, sitting back down again so that he could listen to
the story.

“About a year ago dad got a letter from New York saying he
had been offered a job there as a building constructor, that was all well, he
still hated humans but he would do it if it meant our family would be safe and
well. So on his first day he headed off and that was the last we saw of him, we
went down there to check on him but the site was empty, we tried talking to
some people but they ran away, we blamed the humans for what happened to our
dad” I said not looking into Luke’s eyes, I had to keep a hold of my anger as
well.

“I think I know who took him” Luke said, I looked at him
curious as to how he would know this and a bit suspicious. “Who?” I asked as he
stood up and began pacing in front of me.

“Well it’s just a guess but what if the people who took us
were the same people that took your dad?” he asked and that shocked me, of
course, it must have been why else would they want another giant from the same
family.

“Are you sure?” I asked and he shrugged “Only one way to
find out” and we smiled at each other, I immediately stood up “Carly, go
explain things to Josh please distract him while me and Luke leave, bye mum” I
said and she fell into tears “Oh don’t go my little Jack” she pleaded.

“Mum I have to, don’t worry I’ll be home in no time” I said
giving her a kiss on the cheek, I turned to Luke on the table and realized
something.

“Wait why did they capture you, nothing fits on that part” I
said leaning down so I was eye level with him.

He cowered again “I – I” he stuttered “Don’t be afraid, I
wont hurt you, we’ve been through this” I told him and he gulped hard.

“My mother was captured, she was taken away by a giant about
a week ago” he said sobbing “Was your sister really killed?” I asked thinking
back to what he had told me in that god awful place.

“Yes she was killed while they took my mother, she was
trying to tell the giant off for taking her but got ……… crushed ……….. Instead”
he said finishing in tears.

I let a tear shed as well, that’s an awful way to end a life
and at so young as well “We will avenge her” I said and he seemed scared “We
will find these people” I continued and he nodded “Lets go”.

I placed my hand on the counter palm up and he climbed on,
and with no time to waste I headed back for New York, making a quicker pace
this time.

With little talk apart from Luke’s complaints of motion
sickness we made it back in 3 hours, I stopped at the edge of the city looking
back at the huge building that housed us, it was see through, you could see
everything that was going on inside.

I looked more closely from my distance and noticed my dad
was there, with a woman human “MUM!!!!” Luke yelled from my hand, I saw dad
stand up and lift his foot.

I closed my hand with Luke in it, if this ended badly I
didn’t want him to see, I ran towards the dome and jumped through it making
sure to tackle my dad along the way.

He fell to the ground, I ignored him and went straight to
Luke’s mum, and she was kicked hard and unconscious. I placed Luke down in
front of his mother and he began crying yet again, he ran to her side and
caressed or face.

I let a tear fall as well and I barely noticed dad get up
but the humans did “AHHHHH!” Luke screamed, I turned around and saw dad lifting
his foot yet again “Dad stop!” I said and he looked at me like I was crazy, and
maybe I was.

“Why, they took my family away from me, they deserve to be
punished” he said as evil flashed across his eyes “They didn’t do it dad, they
were captured and taken away from their families to by the same people don’t
you think they are the ones you should be mad at” I said and he relaxed
thinking this through.

“Your – your right” he said in defeat and looked at me with
shame across his face, he then looked down at Luke and his mother; he knelt
down above them casting a shadow over the two of them.

“I’m very sorry, will you ever forgive me?” he asked and
Luke looked up at me with pain in his eyes “What’s wrong Luke?” I asked before
anyone could answer.

“Mother’s really hurt” he said looking up at dad, I leaned
in closer, she was bleeding and her left leg looked twisted and no doubt she
had a few broken ribs.

“May I?” I asked placing my hand on the ground in front of
them palm up, Luke nodded and slowly and carefully with my other hand, we
lifted her up with little pain and placed her in my hand, Luke knelt next to
her and I slowly stood up.

“Where’s the nearest hospital?” I whispered so I didn’t
damage their ears “Um just over that tall building, it should be right next to
a forest, so if you want to go around-“ he started but I cut him off “No, it’s
quicker …… this way” I gulped looking at all the waiting people outside the
border of the building.

“Dad you go around” I instructed and he obeyed still filled
with guilt, I took my first step, it had to be quiet a large one because the
crowd of people just kept on growing.

I made my way, squeezing in and out of the streets trying to
use the less crowded ones if I could, I never took my eyes off the ground and
that’s when I saw her.

“JACK!!!!!!” I heard a small female voice call above the
noisy crowd; I stopped and looked around, nothing.

“JACK!!!!!! OVER HERE!!!” she called again and I looked to
my right to see a girl about my age trying to climb up my make shift shoe.

“Joy?” I asked in amazement, it was all coming back to me,
before I got pinched on the neck I remember I was on a date with Joy, well I
was on my way to it anyway, I had met her only a week ago she came to my cave
by accident and I had saved her from my family and so I hid her safely and we
fell in love and now here she is.

I knelt down above her “What are you doing?” I asked and she
smiled “I found you” she said and hugged my calf.
