I have just a few more observations about the current and former Omegas and their mindsets.  One thing that stands out to me is the attitude that they have towards men.  Among active Omegas, there is no mention of them having any kind of ongoing romantic relationships.  Among the older, post collegiate Omegas, only one is married or with a man (Oliver’s mother). Coincidentally, she is the only mother that has any real feelings for the welfare of her son and Omega tribute. The other mothers seem resigned to the fact that their sons were never really their own, they were always the property of the sisterhood.  The Omega’s sentiment seems to be that men are only to be used and once their life energy has been drained off, they are reduced (pardon the pun) to being things and are no longer considered to be people.  Thus, Sersei’s attitude towards the reduced Cam at the breakfast table and her reference to reduced men being the equivalent of a cigarette butt.

If Oliver still can’t put the pieces of what has happened together, I believe he has little hope.  Neither Sersei or Vesper or any of the Omegas who pretend to be his friends truly care for him at all.  They see him as they see all other men…fodder to be sacrificed to the Ritual for the Harvest.  If there is any exception to the Omegas attitudes, it is Harmony.  Harmony still isn’t a true believer and has not yet participated in the Harvest ritual.  I believe that she will seek out Oliver to warn and save him from the impending fate the sisters have planned.

I originally believed that the Omegas were involved in the dark arts of witchcraft.  I still believe that there is some kind of dark pagan magic they use and I also see them being akin to vampires.  They feed off the life energy of their victims and while the feeding doesn’t immediately kill the tributes, once their energy is consumed, there doesn’t seem to be any going back.  There is no restoration to normal size for them.  What remains is to be used and eventually disposed of when the sisters have finished them off.

Come on Harmony, screw your pledge of secrecy to the Omegas and step up to do the right thing.  Help Oliver!!

Author's Response:

Okay I'll play along. True none of them seems to have a boyfriend. Also true thus far only Oliver's mom has been revealed to be in a relationship. Sersei's description of Cam being like a cigarette butt is pretty brutal and seems to objectify him without regard for him as a person - true again. As I noted in an earlier review Harmony is my outlier so who knows if she'll wisen Oliver up before it's too late. Sersei is circling like a shark around wounded prey now. I can hear the music from Jaws in my head as I think about Sersei. Time is ticking away for Oliver...

And the hi-jinks ensue!

Seriously, though: is it really applicable to compare the shrinking of males to smoking a cigarette? One process reduces the size and mass of men. The other merely reduces life expectancy!

Author's Response:

Blame Sersei for the analogy. I wanted to use a joint as an example but she talked me out of it. Chewing gum might have been a good analogy too now that I think about it.

There is so much to talk about. So much stuff has been introduced that I got to question it like how Harmony questioned the ritual.

This chapter and the next one are the "wtf is going on" chapters. This ritual is just too complex it seems for these girls to be doing it over and over again for generations.

That cigarette analogy didn't quite click for me. Maybe next chapter. It seems like these girls have to use Brian to make him shrink. Does that mean sex? They take his seed and he shrinks? Could be.

Sersei is kinky. I hope she does sit on Oliver's face. Facesitting is so hot in my opinion. It's the closest thing to insertion that can happen in reality. Since you mentioned it, it makes me love Sersei much more. Can't decide who is sexier; Sersei or Brooklyn.

Also, Harmony brings a good point. Why are they there? Especially Oliver. He got unconscious twice now and it was for no reason. It just makes Oliver to become more suspiscious again. Maybe he will be suspicious of Sersei since she was the last thing he saw when he went out.

I was laughing when Harmony went super critical about the whole thing. "Aren't they people?" Lol! This seems like you are mocking the reviewers who nitpick everything, haha!

I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Note that this isn't an every day occurrence as only four males appeared to be marked for the game so it want attract too much attention.  Harmony is brand new to this and we yet don't really know a whole lot about her yet except she seems to have a morality missing from the other sisters. Things are heating up and poor Oliver is the moth being drawn to the flame.

How incredibly careless can they be? They're just going to do the same thing with Oliver this time as they did last time? I'm pretty sure any sane person, if they weren't already thinking something was utterly wrong with this group, would begin to think so after they passed out and awoke in their room with no memory of the previous night not once but TWICE?! Especially given the fact that both times, someone from that night, the person who it was supposed to be about, dissappeared. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be showing up for my night.

Speaking of dissapearing, wouldn't someone notice like 1 guy going missing per week at this university? Sure they happened to have an excuse with Cam's family, but they don't have that with everyone. Unless all of the guys are sons of former sisters, in which case, their dads would still notice them going missing and report it to the police, who would start to investigate the multiple dissappearances on this university, which would inevitably lead them to the last place all of these guys were last known to be going (some of them must have told their roommates where they were going), Omega Pi. Am I over-analyzing a story that is so clearly set in a fantasized world? Yes.

Also: so it seems that most of what they want from these guys is actually some sort of life-force they release as they shrink, which the girls then absorb? And then having them as a little plaything afterwards is just a nice side-effect?

Author's Response:

Wow thanks for the enthusiastic and thorough review. Let's see if I can't provide a little clarity. We are not sure where Oliver might awaken. We do know he is suspicious but there is no way he would deduce the shrinking factor. So far Cam is the only one who is missing with a possible explanation as to why. How will the disappearance of Bear Briar go over? We shall see if it is plausible. I have tried to establish those taken as being descended from women who were/are affiliated with Omega Pi. Yes the life force energy is what is being taken from those being shrunk leaving only a tiny plaything behind. As the next few chapters unfold I hope it sheds more light on your insightful questions. :)
