Woah! Bet you weren’t expecting to see a review on this story after so many years. Yeah I’m kind of a late bloomer on some of this stuff. I’ve been on a recent reading streak and I found this story based on keywords of all things.
Now I don’t review stories often unless it’s something I really feel the need to speak on and this is one of those stories. I’m going to say this as someone who’s been reading stories on this site since I was far too young to be doing so in all honesty, Vera is the most well written cruel (ish?) giant I’ve ever read and it’s not even close.
There’s something so impressive how you’re able to perfectly tread the line for Vera between being friendly to being a monster. How she’s likeable but frightening, caring yet violent, an opposing presence but also decent company.
I used to think actions like drowning, crushing and especially eating people were so cruel they should be left to the most rotten giants of the bunch, giants like Amora and Gurn lest it make the protagonist unlikable. Of course in a way it still does, but I can honestly say I would probably set her free in Ellis’s shoes. Even after all she’s done and all that she would do after I couldn’t bring myself to just let her die.
You did an amazing job with this story, not only with Vera even though she was a standout. Ellis was a great protagonist and Amora was a stellar villain. Not to mention you managed to have two giant women fighting and not only have it not feel cheesy, but it was actually pretty solid action for a size story.
Sorry If you’ve been getting notifications from me. I’ve tried posting a review before but it either came out blank or I went off on some tangent that could use some brevity, really wish I could edit reviews. Just means I have a lot of good to say. There is so much moral complexity to Vera’s story that it reminds me of many of the other tragic monsters of pop culture.
I won’t bore you with all the ways I think as such, but this story is a masterpiece, I cannot express that enough.

I know that Vera has umber hair and cerulean eyes, but what about Ellis? I can't seem to find where his features are described. I think was just going to give Vera a simple set of clothes and sane with Ellis.
I think I can do do something with the Asylum Room I have. I scale that up, and the two characters, perhaps some lighting too. And that's pretty easy. I'll post it to my Deviantart.

Ellis' appearance is avoided for a reason, I won't say much more but he is pretty generic looking. A little unkempt, disheveled, that sort of thing. For Vera I actually have based her appearance of a real person, I can send photos if you like. As for your story I read the first three chapters.

Their conflict is actually a lot deeper than that. I'm honestly struggling to figure out how I want it to be written. It makes a lot of sense in my head but is not easily explained.

I guess I should go ahead and clarify that everything procedural in this world is named using different alphabets. All of the "subjects" are named after letters in the Hebrew alphabet as a reference to the nephilim.

I don't like how they keep calling Ellis Gulliver, like they're going to send him to the giant's world or something.

A lot of back and forth but still the giants are a mystery although Vera managed to get Ellis to reveal how they can't kill her for the moment since they're running low on supplies for the gas.
Vera said she was conceived by a mother who smelled like dust, very odd choice of words there. Conceived would suggest a lack of maternal bond between Vera and her mother, whatever her mother is, that its a relationship lacking in love.

Really digging it so far, I kinda hope Vera breaks out just to see what she will do :). The way you've wrote Ellis is very belivable. He is scared to death, but passionate enough not to give up. I'm glad Vera seems to have taken a liking to him, I wonder what she would do with him if she escaped with him.

A typical setup is not this story. This story has no people being put in shoes whilst the person whose shoe it is walks. Nor does it have a number of other things in it. I like it so far and I think it’s fairly unique even though Earth invasion stories have been done before. I like much of the description and there are few comments I want to make on this chapter. I’ll try and keep this review short, but I realize that may not be possible.
Here: For that, he taught me two things
I believe you mean “from that”, i.e. from his experience as a baker.
Here: Garst’s Hollow
I’m sure if I should comment on this. On the one hand, the reader has no clue what Garst’s Hollow is so to me it doesn’t make sense mention it by name. Conversely this is a personal account and in first person. Just don’t dump too much on the reader without first explaining it.
I have mixed feelings about the bakery part of the chapter so perhaps you can fill me in on your reasoning behind it. I like it but at the same time I don’t think that it’s really necessary. It might have been better for the reader to discover more about Ellis’s past, as the story progressed rather than dedicating a large chunk of a chapter explain how his father used to be a baker. Clues about his past will inevitably appear as a natural part of his conversations with other characters in the story. There is no context to it, other than he was lost in his thoughts, and it doesn’t seem to link up (relate) well with the rest of the chapter.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what’s there so if it was me I’d have kept it for later. It just seems out of place because, and maybe I’ve not been paying enough attention, I don’t get how the two things his father said to him are relevant to his current predicament. A person once said to me: “Always delete the first paragraph of the first chapter because it just what you wrote so you could finally have some words on the paper”.

The word “hear” relates to hearing. You mean to say “here”, as in “over here”.
Constable Grim is grim. Nice, fitting, name I would say. He seems like a funny character.
Also, what is Aleph (Vera) wearing? I don’t think you really elaborated on this in this chapter. If she’s not wearing anything then you should have said that. Anyhow, introducing her was a nice note to end the chapter on. The story has lots of suspense.

It'll all be explained soon! All I can say for now is that it takes some tricky maneuvering. So far Vera is one of the only ones because its so damn difficult to do and they chose her simply because she is one of the giants. As I said though it will be explained!
