A timid almost respectful young lady towards tinies in your world...what have you done with Jacksmith you madman!

Seriously though keep on doing what you're doing good sir.

Author's Response:

Oh, worry not. Dark-side Jacksmith has some pretty horrible things cooked up for later in the story. Thanks for reviewing!

I'm a big fan of this dialogue. There's a lot of subtlety here. I can clearly envision what the situations are like for each of the shrunken characters without anyone spelling it out and people trying to be nonchalant and even cryptic about it makes them feel much more real than say, boasting about it. You're getting a lot done here with next to no descriptions.

Author's Response: Thanks! I know my usual stuff has a lot more description, but I was really interested in trying out something that got across the same feeling but with casual conversation about something so bizarre.

Oh, this should be good.

Narrative thoughts: One thing that struck me with Lillian, beyond even her little "slip" of calling Trish "it", is that it doesn't seem to even occur to her that Trish's escalated behavior in the wake of her father's passing is not because of some sense of liberation, but one of anguish at losing her dad. Not even after Howard's badgering of her. It's as if her mind immediately locked onto the "worst" possible explanation for the behavior and just refuses to consider anything else.

Eagerly looking forward to the next bit :)

Author's Response: You're on point with Lillian. I'm crossing my fingers that the next chapter lives up to your hype.

Wow, I have got to say that you are one of the most talented writers on this site. The way you get into the psychology of your characters is fascinating and always leaves me wanting more! I didn't think it was possible to top the "A little Blackmail" series, but I think you've got something genuinely interesting and special going on here. Cant wait for more!

Author's Response: Thanks! Hope you continue to enjoy.

@Xkcd: I was thinking something similar at first, but the issue is increasingly acknowledged as the story goes on.

As for this chapter, she comes across at first as a believer in tough love, but within reason. At the end, though, it becomes clear that we're in for something pretty dark (especially with the cowering bit), and I bet that when he does get his one on one interview, Lillian is going to look pretty nasty.

Also, what effect has this had on Ruby's personality and behaviour toward shrunken people? It seems like she's been affected like Lillian.

Author's Response: It's an issue that he realized has to be addressed after the oddness of the first interview, though getting the one-on-one chats is still tough if the warden believes something is fishy. The end of the chapter is indeed meant to give a different kind of implication to Lillian. And we'll see just how much Ruby's been impacted by all this next chapter.
