Hmmmm! I'll bet she snuck into his bedroom and asked him that question while he was still half-asleep. Thereby incorporating it into his dream.

Author's Response: Yep Exactly!  I kinda wanted the reader to figure it out for himself, so as to leave a little mystery to the story, and you nailed it.
