On the other hand, I did like the subtle homage to THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE.

The only reference I could find, on-line, to "Al'yah," was an astronomical term that roughly translates as "fatty tail of the sheep(?!)."
Author's Response:
Al'yah is actually my own creation, the one God I'm designing from scratch, as she is, as will be revealed, the First Among Equals in the Godding community, and I didn't want to use anyone's actuial God or Goddess for that role. I could get deeper into the way I've structured this particular Pantheon, but I won't right now; as a hint, I'll suggest Valentine Michael Smith's revelation from "Stranger in a Strange Land."
As for the name itself, it comes from the name "Alia," which means "rising" or "ascending."
