I like what you have so far, but I think the text could stand to be separated a bit more.

The only thing marring this auspicious debut is the non-separation of dialogue and narrative. Double-space between paragraphs, dude! Especially, when the next paragraph is directly-quoted dialogue!!

I say this as someone who was initially guilty of it, himself. So, I know, whereof, I speak.
